Ant-Man So, I'm a casual, why should I be excited for this?

Last year at this time , no one had even heard of a little film called Guardians of the Galaxy , and it went on and did OK at the box office

I'm more then willing to give Marvel the benefit of the doubt here as well

I got a felling when the trailers start to come out , maybe not the first one , but by trailer number three , people are going to go , Holy S(beep)t !!!

Trailers come out, gets buzzy, Paul Rudd/Freckles on the late night circuit, appearing at events across the world etc.

Yeah, as soon as they fire up the marketing machine the hype will begin. As mentioned, Guardians proved an obscure property can succeed and built even more goodwill with the general audience.

^ I hope so. I will lose respect for Marvel if they don't let him do that.

It is a shortened version of "casual fan" in this instance... in the parlance of our times.

Ugh, it's so grating, though. The word fan is only three letters. Four characters with the space. It wouldn't be that hard to add.

As far as attracting the casuals go, I think Paul Rudd could be their not-so-secret weapon. He's one of the most charismatic leading men Marvel have been able to acquire, I really like him as an actor and will watch most stuff he does. He definitely has the skill to do for Scott Lang what Chris Pratt did for Peter Quill: take a character who wasn't necessarily the most popular of heroes and, through injecting his own personality into the role, turn him into a fan favourite.

My girlfriend laughed out loud when I told her about Ant-man saying it sounded like the dumbest thing ever, but once she saw Paul Rudd was in the movie she was very interested. People love him, he will without a doubt put meat in seats.

I think I consider myself pretty casual since I was a bit late to the MCU and never really have been able to get into comics. Thats why I was a bit iffy when they announced this but I have to say with the casting of not just Rudd and Douglas but Stoll, Penã and Cannavale + appearances by characters we've formerly seen and from what I've seen from production my interest has risen greatly.

Plus I'm very confident that Disney's marketing will do a great job with promoting this one too. As they have just basically took the first step with the small bit they had in Pulp to Pop and I'm already intrigued, looking forward what they have in store for us next summer :)

At the end of the day all most people want when watching a movie is to be entertained.

If Ant-Man is a good entertaining film it won't matter if you have heard of the comic character before or not.

As to Answer the Original Question, If you are a casual, why should you care?

It stars Paul Rudd as a Super Hero.
