So I'm gonna start reading Twilight.....

I read the first one, then started reading another book for a while, but I just couldn't truely get into that other book, I bought New Moon and haven't read it yet either.

I can't believe I have gotten into them as a guilty pleasure when I gave all the trailers for the movie such crap.

So... the vampires sparkle when they are in sunlight? What the crap is that?

It is best when reading these books not to think of them so much as vampires but Greek gods and goddesses who drink blood.

i've read the first one, got the second one for christmas cuz i wasn't gonna buy it lol

the main characters kinda annoy me. bella's kinda an awkward frail clutz and i think i'm just not used to my female protagonist's being like that.

i actually think the other vamps are more interesting. the only reason i'm "motivated" to continue reading is to hopefully find out what the deal with Rosalie is

The payoff for the Rosalie subplot is actually one of the high points of the series, IMO.

I was mad when they cut out all the connection to Alice and James in the first movie. I really like Alice.

I'm pretty sure they explain it as they go through high school, and after they graduate, they take an absence from the area they used to attend then after enough time passes they follow through the high school thing again.

But that's my point! why would they go back to school? I don't hear any older people talking about how they'd like to go back to school.

Hell, I'd never go back unless it was to be a teacher or something. So why is he going to highschool?

That just doesn't make sense. and a public school at that.

that makes me hopeful. when i finish the book i'm currently reading, maybe i'll bust out New Moon and give it a shot

Me too! She was my favorite character of Twilight when I read it. A friend of mine who never knew a thing about twilight saw the movie, loved it, and has now seen it at least 3 times. The 3rd time she wanted to see it, she dragged me along with her and we were discussing it on the way home. She couldn't get why i liked Alice so much, so i told her if she would read the book, then she'd know.

so i got it for her for Christmas.

maybe it's just easy to forge paper work for high schools and public schools rather than universities and private schools? i dunno, just pulling something out of the air here.

Me too. Alice was my fave character in the book and the movie, but the movie let me down with her.:csad:

Eh, I guess to retain some of their humanity. Edward wont age so I guess Dr. Cullen likes his kids to remain in the age range that they'll forever look like so that no suspicions are raised.

Keep in mind I'm not an uber fan of the book or anything, but I don't think it's a highly impossible scenario to think of a reason for.

its hard for me to say whether or not i was let down by the movie's portrayal of her or not cuz i felt like most of the other vamps didn't really get a chance to shine at all.

Like Emmett, when the movie starts, the scene with the animal running through the woods, i secretly hope it would lead to
emmett fighting with a bear

jasper i think has one line in the whole movie, during the baseball scene.

alice was likeable in the movie. i really liked her haircut, it was very close to how i pictured her. she looked a little older than high school, but i knew people in high school who looked older than what they were, (heck i was a freshman and ppl though i was a senior so eh). she was somewhat flighty and some of her lines were pretty 'alice-like'

but i really felt like everyone else got the shaft in the movie.

Not much Rosalie at all in New Moon, but the werewolf stuff was interesting. I found those sections far more entertaining than the vampire bits so its still worth a read if you liked the first book.

I'm about to read Twilight for the sake of my girlfriend and my best friend. Except for the movie, which looked wholly uninteresting to me, I know absolutely nothing about this series of books. I've heard several arguments both ways, mostly down gender lines, as to the awesomeness or suckiness of this book. So, is it worth reading, or a total waste of time?

Anything to keep getting.. you know.

:huh:What's this guilty pleasure thing? I assume people would feel guilty about reading a bad book, but to get pleasure from doing it in a mental masochistic way?

I just finished reading the book 2 days ago, and it actually wasn't that bad(once u get past the first 2 chapters which are slow moving)
is there alot of romance? yes..is there action in it? yes(not mch, but it's still there) it doesn't matter if ur a guy or a girl, the book is actually pretty decent for a romance story(heck of alot better that titanic that's for sure)
and the movie wasn't 2bad either.

It's kinda like watching a car wreck, the books aren't written that great, but you can't help sorta wanting to know what's going to happen next. :p These are not Pulitzer Prize winning stories.

High school is easiest because he still looks 17. They switch things up every couple years...sometimes they'll go to high school, sometimes college, sometimes no school, sometimes Emmett and Rosalie and Alice and Jasper will go off by themselves as married couples. All of them admit to having enough education to be college professors. They just do it because it draws the least attention and they get bored.

Have you seriously never had any guilty pleasures  It's like chocolate...many people feel bad eating it because it's making them fat, but it tastes oh so good.

Haha, that analogy works, too :woot:

I actually came to this series shortly after Robert Pattinson was announced to play Edward. I actually did get a few laughs out the fangirls who wanted Gaspard Ulliel for Edward. Anywhoo...

I'll be honest - virtually everyone promised me this book would be worse than it is. But I really enjoy them.

Yeah, the writing does feel very 'amateur' and yes, every couple of pages has some sentence or idea that makes me roll my eyes so hard, they would fall out of my head. But Bella's not that bad a character TBH - she's just a kid in a pretty ridiculous situation and alot of her internal monologues do come across as genuinely snarky, which I love. And Mr. Sparklepeen, I mean, Edward isn't so bad either - he's really not that wonderful but the Bella POV does a great job of making him seem all special and mysterious and pretty. I mean, the books are ridiculous, but it doesn't TRY to be mature or life-changing or deep or meaningful or even meta. They're so bad, they're good cheesy fun.

As for the movie, it's not wonderful, but it was fun. And I agree, I was mad when they cut out Alice's connections to James and didn't go over Carlisle's backstory as much as the book did. Carlisle's my favorite character.

I think they might go over Carlisle's backstory in the beginning of this second movie. That's right after Bella's party. He is also one of my favs so they better give some background!

i wouldn't mind that. i actually liked that part of the twilight book too.

I wish Carlisle had a British accent. Considering he was born and lived in England for like 200-300 years you'd assume he'd have one...

you know, i actually would've liked that too. even if it was just a small hint

Honestly, Gaspard looks more like the Edward I pictured in my mind than Pattinson does.

i kinda thought that edward would be a lil more muscularly defined? i never found pattinson particularly attractive until i saw this movie. i thought he was cute for the most part of the film.

for some reason i kept staring at his eyes. it's rare to find someone where you can see the whites of their eyes under the pupils so prominently. does that make sense at all?

also, as for the other castings, did they fit your mental descriptions of the characters? i had qualms when i initially heard Nikki Reed was gonna be Rosalie, mostly cuz she's dark haired lady and cuz i kinda hated her character in 13. In my head Rosalie was supposed to be super stunning, like too pretty to look at or something, but i think Nikki did pretty good in the role and she looked prettier with the blonde hair than i thought she would.

The guy who played Emmett pretty much matched my mental image more than anyone else
