So I'm gonna start reading Twilight.....

Thought about it and don't have guilty pleasures. I don't get guilty about stuff I enjoy. Though I stay away from things that would make me feel guilty and I just hate Twilight.

I just finished the book this morning. Overall, its an okay book, but I was severely disappointed by how anti-climactic it was. The conversation between Bella and Edward in the hospital completely wore out my patience. The whole section was straight out of a soap opera, and its when I knew for certain I wouldn't be reading the next book. I honestly can't read another book with conversations like that, and where half of the text is about how utterly amazing Edward is.

Well the hype in both directions is completely wrong. Its not a horrible pile of trash, and its not an amazing book on par with Harry Potter. Its just an decent teen romance story for adolescent girls. I don't regret reading it, but I don't have any desire to read any more.

i kinda thought that edward would be a lil more muscularly defined? i never found pattinson particularly attractive until i saw this movie. i thought he was cute for the most part of the film.

for some reason i kept staring at his eyes. it's rare to find someone where you can see the whites of their eyes under the pupils so prominently. does that make sense at all?

also, as for the other castings, did they fit your mental descriptions of the characters? i had qualms when i initially heard Nikki Reed was gonna be Rosalie, mostly cuz she's dark haired lady and cuz i kinda hated her character in 13. In my head Rosalie was supposed to be super stunning, like too pretty to look at or something, but i think Nikki did pretty good in the role and she looked prettier with the blonde hair than i thought she would.

The guy who played Emmett pretty much matched my mental image more than anyone else

Yeah, Rosalie hardly looked like I imagined; She looked a little too fake cosmetically. I honestly saw her looking like Pattinson's costar from HP:Goblet of Fire, Clémence Poés.

i didn't really have a certain person in mind for playing Rosalie but I had assumed it would be a natural blonde but eh i'm not gonna complain too much on that

i really liked Alice's casting though more than i thought i would, but wow, she sure looks different with her long hair instead of the pixie like cut

If you see it you're part of the problem. See a good movie instead, Valkyrie was very good and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button looks very well done but I haven't seen it yet.

Personally I'm generally happy with the casting. Nikki Reed still hasn't really impressed me in the looks department as Rosalie but she did play the character really well. Peter Facinelli was awesome as Carlisle. I loved Kristen for Bella; she was an infinitely better choice than that Emily Browning chick virtually everyone was pushing for.

as for kristen, i didn't mind her in the role. she played plainish bella pretty well. the awkwardness and the frailty was apparent, as well as her klutziness. some of her facial expressions and quirks weren't my thing, but i could imagine bella acting like that so it worked

Emily Browning played big sister Violet in the (frankly bad) movie of A Series of Unfortunate Events.

I loved Kristen in the role - she was actually normal and realistic. I think she's got lots of untapped potential.

I'm reading the 3rd book now. My boss is obsessed with them and has been lending them out at work. I wasn't all that impressed with Twilight, but I did enjoy New Moon a lot better, probably because I found Jacob to be a much better character than Edward.

I'm not really impressed with Bella as a character. A friend of mine referred to her relationship with Edward as almost an abusive relationship, and I agree. He never lets her decide anything on her own. She doesn't treat her friends well, she's perfectly fine with abandoning her parents - all for Edward. Even when she hooks up with Jacob, her only goal at first was to just use him so she could hear Edward's voice. I think she comes off as pretty selfish, and makes some really stupid decisions as the story goes along.

"Eclipse" is my favorite of the series. Maybe because the whole love triangle comes to a head. Then it's all crazy, fantastic, and bizarre in "Breaking Dawn."t:

My girlfriend is just about to finish the fourth book. I went to see the film with her and thought it was god awful. But, assuring me that the books were much better, I read the first chapter of Twilight. Stephanie Meyer's writing is horrible Thesaurus bashing stuff though. Really turned me off.

I understand its appeal and everything but it really isn't for me. It feels like bad fanfiction of a decent series that already exists.

i totally agree with that. there are parts of the books i've read that i liked, and other parts i didnt really care for at all. it's odd that Edward and Bella are the main characters and they are probably my least favorites.

Bella is hard for me to like. Maybe i'm just used to strong female characters, but she's very dainty and clutzy yet only really clutzy when it fits the plot sometimes. at least in the movie they showed her accident prone-ness (don't care if it's a word or not) in lil nuances and falls. anyways, she was really hard for me to read because she felt like my polar opposite at times. She's willing to give up her soul for a guy she's known a semester? please. i wouldn't even contemplate a marriage with a guy i've know that long and it's like the same thing (hehe)

like i said in another post, where i am now, age, mindset and all that, i'm too cynical to get obsessed with the stories like some are. but, if i was 12 or 13 again i probably wouldve read all the books in like a month and read fanfics and all that.

but when i was 12 or 13 i was doing all that, but with x-men instead :shrugs:
