So I'm gonna start reading Twilight.....

Bella's the worst main character in the history of literature.

Twilight is like a universe full of Mary Sues and Marty Stus. Stephanie Meyer is the Chris Claremont of vampire novels.

Hmm...well, I'd never, ever think my boyfriend would enjoy the books, personally. They're less vampire more stereotypical romance most of the time. Highly addictive stuff that makes me mad at myself for reading it afterwards :o
So it's mostly a romance novel and not horror? Never been into romance novel as I find most of them to be too cheesy and full of mush. I'm willing to give it a try though, especially since the main characters are named after me and my man. What a coinkidink!

If you can call what is in the book... 'a romance'.

Whatever you call it when a guy removes the engine of the girl's car so the girl can't go anywhere without him.
Seriously? That sounds creepy. FAR from a romance. Yikes!

Does anyone agree/disagree with Gilpesh?

I do agree. Edward comes across very stalkerish. He removes her engine, he watches her sleep at night without her knowledge. Follows her out of town.

Seriously, the whole thing is very stalkeresque.

When I bought the book the lady at the counter was all ''This is going to teach you how to be the perfect boyfriend." and I'm like after reading it? ''So I should learn how to remove a motor, stat?"

How can any girl find that to be romantic? I guess it's fine to be stalked by a 'good looking' dude, who turns out to be a vampire?

Or... maybe he's looking out for her? *shudders*

No idea. But maybe it is because he started watching her sleep BEFORE they started going out?

Women = crazy

Or... maybe he's looking out for her? *shudders*

Especially because the 'flaw' that she is given to seem like a real character... is deadly clumsiness.

So... what attracted him to her and vice versa?
Please answer in spoiler tag, just in case there are those who hasn't read and want to but don't want to know. Thanks.

Hey, I resent that sexist statement! I'm not crazy, darn it! Just you wait, I'll find you and... and... steal all your candies!! :cmad:

See! He IS looking out for her! Awww...

Well, I don't have any clue how they were attracted to each other... cause I haven't read the book. :wow:

But I doubt that would give someone much more insight into a relationship that allows such abusive behavior.

See! He IS looking out for her! Awww...

I dunno. I hear it is worse than Dubya choking on a pretel bad.

All my candies?!?!?!?!!??! Nooooooo!

I'm about to read Twilight for the sake of my girlfriend and my best friend. Except for the movie, which looked wholly uninteresting to me, I know absolutely nothing about this series of books. I've heard several arguments both ways, mostly down gender lines, as to the awesomeness or suckiness of this book. So, is it worth reading, or a total waste of time?
Im a guy and I loved it. I dont like the glittery vampires or most of what the vampires do etc(Im too used ot Buffy vampires), but I liked the story. I HATE reading books, I never finish them, but Twilight was the first book I actually read throughout.

Edward can read everyone's minds. Everyone's but Bella's. that was the initial intrigue. but also, he's a "vegetarian" vamp, as is his family. he hungers for her blood and scent baaad in the beginning. it's like a drug to him i guess but he doesn't want to kill people so he resists

Grrr!! You made me think that you had read it! Well... now that I know, I declare your opinion to be... moot. Hmph!

How do you know he's abusive since you haven't read? :o :p
He took out the motor maybe because there's something wrong with it and he's saving her from... having a car accident.

I dunno. I hear it is worse than Dubya choking on a pretel bad.
What are you talking about? Dubya choking on a pretzel was GOLD!

All my candies?!?!?!?!!??! Nooooooo!
Yesssssssssssssss!

I don't understand the term 'glittery vampire'. Oooh... BtVS go a mention!!
Twilight... it's a series? How many in the series?

Thanks sooo much, CC!
Why did he stalk her and took the engine out of her car? How does Edward survive without drinking blood as that's a vampire's main 'diet'?

I don't think context is going to help what I know about the book :oldrazz:

glittery vamps
meyer makes up her own mythos for vamps somewhat. instead of the stereotype of them not being able to walk out in the sun, her spin is that they choose not too because the sunlight reflects off their skin giving them a shimmery/glittery sheen.

car engine steal
i don't really remember him stealing her engine if it happened in the first book lol
but, she does have a super old (i prefer vintage) truck that's a clunker. i think it's a 50's model or somewhere around there. so it could've been taken out because he wants her to stay put or because the truck's a death trap.
i do remember him pulling a dent out for her

there's 4 books in the series. and possible a 5th

No, the vampires DAZZLE!!!

I didn't like Twilight at all, but I never really took Edward's behaviour as abusive. In real life if a random guy were watching you sleep, etc. of course that would be bad. But in the context of the book I think it works because its alluded to from about the beginning that Edward thinks Bella will get in trouble (which she eventually does of course). It's like how Angel would follow Buffy occasionally when he knew something was up. The supernatural element plus the fact that the heroine will eventually get in some sort of trouble allows the male lead to be a little "stalkerish" within these narratives.

However, Twilight is another prime example of why parents need to be tuned in with what kids are reading. If I had a kid I would have no problem allowing them to read the books (except that I would worry about thier taste if they liked them :(), but I would want them to understand that everything in the book, including the romance, is pure fantasy.

Whatever, you fraud!
So how did you know 'so much' about it? Did you see the movie?

Yeah, but I doubt you'd want a Dubya stupid character as the main character of a book series... :oldrazz:
Your Dubya-hate is disgusting and unbelievable! I miss him. I miss how he made me laugh so hard that I, too, almost choke on my food, pretzel including. Also, he's not idiotic he's... intellectually challenged. Be PC, please.

Not after I have possession of them.

Ahh... they don't like the glittery look as they're afraid people might mistake them for a ... disco ball? Hehe!

See! I suspected right! He IS looking out for her! It doesn't take a vampire to know that clunkers can be dangerous. Bella doesn't seem to smart so... thank the demons for Edward!

Well... Gilpesh 'diagnosis' was off coz he didn't read the book. :o (Hi! Gilpesh! :D)

What makes Edward think Bella will get in trouble? Because of her clunker or because he can't read her mind? Angel followed Buffy around because he knows Buffy's the slayer and if I remember correctly, he knows about the Master and wants Buffy to be careful and he's not like the other vampires so he wants to fight on her side.

I asked about the 'vegetarian' aspect. How does a vampire live without blood when that is their main diet? Does he survive on tomato juice?

However, Twilight is another prime example of why parents need to be tuned in with what kids are reading. A hilarious review of the entire series.

Damn that 9/10th of the law ownership clause! :o

Hi Bella!

A hilarious review of the entire series.
So... in short, your review/opinion is based on other people's review/opinion. I didn't expect you to be a sheep, Gilpesh. I am so utterly disappointed I feel like looking for a vampire to suck all the blood out of me. *sad*

:stunned:
[blackout]haha[/blackout]
You know you love him too, secretly.

Damn that 9/10th of the law ownership clause! :o
I like it. As long as it is advantageous to me.

Hi Bella!
The lounge is THAT way!
;)

They are not horror at all. I felt like the first book was basically Bella and Edward staring lovingly at each other. Nothing else really happened. Stephanie Meyer wrote in some *scary* stuff, but it's not really scary when you've read better vampire stories.

I do find Edward creepy and stalker-ish, and I think Bella is way too apologetic to him for everything that happens in the books. It's this whole Edward-is-perfect-and-I'm-not-worthy thing that just goes on and on and becomes somewhat pathetic after awhile.

I don't hate the books (I'm reading the 4th one now), but they are definitely not my favorite. I can't wait to read Salem's Lot again when I finally finish the series. Now those were vampires!

No, the reason he takes the engine is:

So she won't sneak off and visit Jacob. He thought it was too dangerous for her to be around the werewolves, even though she was fine with Jacob. Alice practically holds her hostage having sleepovers so she wouldn't go off to La Push either.

Twilight is required reading in one of the classes at my University. WTF!?!??!?!?!
