which ones are best?

def. buying forever, but i cant decide wether or not to get BATMAN or BATMAN RETURNS.

Does the batman one-in the documentaries-talk about the insane hype BATMAN got and show clips of it?

does returns or forever's touch on that subject as well?

I only got 89 and Returns, and that is because I really could not bring myself to support Schumacher. Personal preference really is what it comes down to... get the ones you enjoy, all the extras are really cool and the new quality is great (I'm sure that goes for all four).

I'd recommend just buying the whole set, although Batman and Robin is terrible, its still worth watching the bonus features

I got the whole set and I love it, even the Schumacher DVDs. Not for the films themselves but because of the special features. And I liked Schumacher's commentaries more than Burton's, if only because Schumacher was more talkative and could remember more, since his films were more recently made. I think it's worth getting all four just to have a set.

They all had great special features inclunding Batman and Robin. If you're buying for the movies I only recommend the first two.

Yes.

buy the whole set. It's only $60. You'll be paying more if you just buy 3 seperate. You'd basically be getting B&R for free.

It's worth it just to watch Shumacher apologize for the ****hole that was Batman and Robin.

Get the whole set.

He doesnt apologize though, and says several time he stands by his film, although he made some small mistakes with it. He comes off as a total *****ebag. I havent watched the commentaries though (I watched his commentary on phone booth and it was literally an hour and a half of him blowing everone involved on the movie) so maybe he apologizes in there.

Did you watch the interviews about the making of the films? He basically apologizes to the fans, and says that this movie was his responsibility, and he was sorry if the fans went into this film expecting something else.

Something like that. But he also explains everything the studio pressured him to do.

Yes, but then right after that he says that he still enjoys the film and thinks it's good, and doesnt really see why fans didnt like it. He apologized, but it was incredibly insincere.

Schumacher does apoligize, as he admits that he did go into B&R with his eyes wide open, but does also mention that he was pressured into making everything more extravagant and "toyetic" than ever before. Even Chris O'Donnell mentions something about how he felt with FOREVER, he was actually in a movie. With B&R, he said he felt like he was filming a toy commercial. Apparently, O'Donnell enjoyed doing publicity more than anything else associated with the film. Schumacher does apoligize quite a bit in his commentary for B&R. Hell, he even says that for the people who loved Forever, and were let down by B&R, he apoligizes. He knows he screwed up. We know the film sucks. And thats it.

Oh, and just get the boxset. I think it's worth it for all the documentaries on each set.

I'd like an apology for Forever too actually...at least B&R didnt flip flop from being serious to over-the top like Forever did...and it didnt have Bruce Wayne "getting over" his parents death.

Why do you need an apology? If anyone should be apologizing, it'd be Warner Bros.

I agree Joker. FOREVER wasnt really a good movie either. Although Schumacher appears to think it's probably the 2nd best Batman movie before Batman Begins made it's debut. Everyone who worked on that film spoke very highly of it on the documentary about the filming of the movie. And there seemed to be an general consensus that Batman Returns was just too "dark". I suppose Schumacher can justify his high opinion on Forever because of the fact that the film was a success, had a huge opening for that time, and got him another job at directing another Batman movie, but he knows he screwed up with B&R. He might not have come out and said, "I know this movie sucks, and I apoligize for wasting your time!" But the fact that he even leaves about 5 mins before the movie ends on his director's commentary is just proof of guilt as far as I am concerned. When you, the director, cant even sit thru the entire movie, something is definately wrong here.

WB was absolutely clueless.

Hell, they were just about to greenlight another Schumacher/Batman film before the returns for B&R came back. :O

your deciding of returns and 89 should be 89.

1989 dvd has alot more features and interviews, and even a 40 minute documentary about batman in general and how he became who he is now. It also has interviews with Bob Kahne before he died.

oh, and yes, there is a small part about the hype of 89.

I hate how Bob takes all the credit "When I created The Batman" I think he means "When Bill Finger created Batman". :o

I actually enjoyed watching the special features on the Batman and Robin DVD, believe it or not. It was interesting to hear about the rushed productions, the "toy commercial" references, and the cast and crew's side of the story.

Joel Schumacher: "On Batman Forever everyone didn't think anything of it, but with Batman & Robin it was like *moves back in chair* 'How can we stop it!? Everybody and their mother wanted to be in the movie"

LOL, I laughed when he said that.

As far as Schumacher revealing funny moments about the filming of B&R, I thought the most hilarious story was when he mentioned something about Chris O'Donnell having to do a somewhat emotional scene in the batcave, but everytime they would roll the cameras, there pops up a photoshop image of Chris O'Donnell's head on some male pornstar body up on the giant screen in the batcave. Which would make it extremely difficult for O'Donnell to concentrate on the scene. :D
