I think it's ambiguous enough where you can assume whichever you want- there's times where comments suggest always 1 Bond (new q watch- this is your 20th, I believe), and times that suggest the opposite (george lazenby's "this never happenned to the other guy")...

The 'other guy' meaning Sean Connery. It's a joke about Lazenby replacing Sean Connery, not about there being multiple 007s.

and now, from what the teaser has shown us (00's have a short lifespan, Bond getting promoted but still the same M), it suggests that maybe it could be a codename.

Judi Dench plays M again because the series is making a transition from the Brosnan era to the Craig era, and needs some elements the audience are familiar with. That's all it is.

Bond saying, "00 agents have a very short life expectancy," is referring to the other 00 agents, 001, 002, etc. If he was referring to other 007s, it wouldn't make any sense, because they all had long and distinguished careers as secret agents, and were obviously very hard to kill.

Funny thing is Lazenby played Bond inbetween Connery
Connery (1962 - 71)
Lazenby (1969)

Connery came back to do "Diamonds are Forever" in 1971 after Lazenby did "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" in 1969. Unofficially Connery came back to also do "Never Say Never Again" in 1983. It kinda throws the whole "different actors play different Bond's" out.

"Never Say Never Again" doesn't count and connery only did because he was cotracted to make the movie.

You know, I just checked out this board and I am dismayed, absolutely disgusted in fact, about the sheer viciousness that many members of the forum display because someone challenges their 'set in stone' idea about a character they didn't create, by the suggestion of anothers idea. Ok you don't like it, just say that and move on- there's no need to be disrepectful. I don't know why you are so damn uptight anyway, at the end of the day- BOND IS NOT REAL. You are not defending anyone, or backing up someone in a fight so get a grip on reality and remember what it is that you are being so fasecious for.
No the codename theory is not a good one, but if thats how you interpret it, then cool, you do that. THERE'S NO HARM IN THAT.
Now please people, some of you really need to grow up, I would suggest you do so. This is a forum for a 40 year old franchise, lets treat it with some dignity.

The codename theory is still a dumb theory. And this is a debate place, if someone says his theory on this forum, he should expect to have people contradict him. Don Juan, Oedipus, Dorian Gray and Captain Ahab are not real either, but I wouldn't appreciate if somebody would make such crackpot theories about these characters. James Bond is "real" as far as he is a character. His psychology is genuine. He is not a fake, not an alias taken by agents.

Alright I'll take that point. Debating is fine with me- no problem with that. It's when it gets catty and people start insulting each other that it becomes tedious.
But again I've no problem with a good old mass debate now and again-hoho. Just keep it clean.

He did it because he chose to. He wasn't contracted to make one more movie with some studio/group he'd never worked with before - how would that have happened? But yes, it doesn't count.

:woot: !

-- END!

From Casino Royale on, the old James Bonds do not exist (for the new story line's sake). This movie is set to be a faithful adaption of Ian Fleming's character and even if the new movies aren't based on his books, the James Bond of the future is going to be more like his "maker" intended him to be
