So is Superman readable yet?

Dude, it's one thing to tell a compelling story about superman without any titanic battles like, say, Superman: Secret identity, or Red Son, but it's a whole other thing to have him be a dead beat dad who runs out on his chick to go look at some space rocks..

Exactly,it's like i said. We either have something very good like Kingdom Come,Red Son or something very bad like Superman Returns and that Superman run with Jim Lee that no one seems to remember except the fact the artwork was fantastic.

I need to still read that. I brought both volumes like 9 months ago and still aint started reading it yet. I've very mixed reviews on it though.

That was For Tomorrow. I liked that run, myself.

It's a story that truly suffers when not read all together. The delays killed some of the story when it was coming out. But once it was over, I sat down, read it all together and it was compelling as hell. Some of the best Superman moments ever printed came outta those twelve issues. Like when he told those elementals that if they killed all the people on the planet, he would burn away the oceans, rip away the atmosphere, flat out destroy the core, and find someplace else to live. Don't tug on Superman's cape.

Did you read the part of Anubis' post where he said that there's a difference between telling the emotional and heart felt Superman stories, and making him a guy who walks out on a woman without even saying goodbye?

He erased her memory of his identity and left not knowing she was expecting... so it's not that bad.... also the previous two movies didn't happen... so that was good.

Seriously, they just shoulda went with a reboot. If for no other reason than to lose the campy Lex and upgrade to the smartest businessman/Super Scientist in the world, Xenophobic, invisible machinations, untouchable, lose at the end but somehow still win, Lex.

I think he would have made a great Lex, had he not been told to do a Hackmanesque Lex. I really hope they don't bring Singer Back. He really screwed the pooch on SR.

I hope so. maybe they should just get rid of everybody and reboot. Batman Begins that s**t.

That would be ideal. Donner's movies are classics to some people or whatever, but they're pretty outdated as bases for modern Superman stories.

I gotta tell you, I never really liked them to begin with.

Well, the tagline for the first is "you will believe a man can fly," and I think it accomplished that. Superman seems pretty credible. It's cheesy, but what story that's meant to be inspiring isn't cheesy after you grow up and lose the stars in your eyes? The second movie was just a lot of fun because of the huge brawl between Supes and the PZ criminals. I have a lot of problems with a lot of things in both, but I think they're mostly enjoyable. I don't place them on the pedestal that some other people do, though.

In an ideal World i have Stanley Kubrick ressurected from the dead to do the movie. In reality i think Ridley Scott is the best alternative.Blade Runner meets Gladiator sounds pretty cool to me. Im sure a more suitable approach would also be good as well.

Does anyone know whose taking over from Brusiek ? I hope its Widnick

Wait a minute, Widnick? Do you mean Jud "Make Jimmy Gay and give him Aids" Winick?

Maybe Jimmy's randomly changing superpowers are the metahuman equivalent of AIDS.

Cosmic Aids. Got too close to Light Ray I guess.

Blade Runner... Gladiator... two fantastic movies that have absolutely no similarities to Superman. Yeah, that's a great choice...

As for the Donner movies: Love them. I'm a fan. Probably why I didn't mind Superman Returns as much. Actually watched it again yesterday. The experience was a little more rewarding on the big screen, but it wasn't that bad a film.

Actually:

Jimmy is where the new gods souls are all ending up (hence why the issues with the source wall)

See the latest issue of countdown :csad:

I would, but then I'd be reading Countdown again. That's never a good idea.
