The Amazing Spider-Man So now we've seen both, which was the best? - Part 1

I enjoyed Webb's over Raimis first go at the character.

I still like Raimis first two movies quite a bit. But it has more to do with nostalgia (like Burtons Batman). The suit was great, the score, Tobey was likeable, i didn't mind Dunst as MJ until she got annoying in the sequels. The Peter/Uncle Ben stuff was handled perfectly...lots of emotion there. Franco was always solid and the only thing that i found entertaining from the 3rd movie.

What i didnt like was how they handled Green Goblin as a character or his suit. Dafoe was a good choice for Norman, and he played that well but i didn't like the transformation or how they handled the Goblin persona. It was campy and not scary like it should have been. Green Goblin had no business being in the origin story for a Spider-Man movie anyway. You end up cutting the focus from Peter cuz u have to tend to the biggest villain in the rogues gallery, and on the other hand, you can't do everything for this huge villain because the films supposed to be dedicated to Spideys origins. Like the Joker, he needs to be left for a sequel. Which is something Webb is doing right. (BTW Joker in Batman 89' doesn't count because Bruce Wayne is already established in the beginning of the story unlike here).

They didn't write enough smart-ass, trash-talking remarks for Maguire to say when he was in the suit. And that's why i prefer Garfield as "Spider-Man". Character-wise, i like Tobey and Andrew's "Peter Parker" equally...for different reasons. But i'm now more interested in Andrews portrayel because to me he looks more like the character. As if he was brought to life from the page. Yet they're both fun, quirky in their own way & can bring the emotion.

I prefer the stunts in the new movie. The suit is different but it's just as good for me. The web-shooters are another reason why i like this new Spidey more.

The cast in TAMS makes Raimi's look weak. Great friggin cast. More details for Peters childhood (even though more of it will be explored later on) which was missing from the old trilogy. And i prefer the contrast of going from Lizard to Electro rather than Goblin to Doc Ock which felt too similar sometimes. Speaking of villains..

Was never a fan of Doctor Octopus or Sandman (or Vulture for that matter which Raimi seemed to be a big fan of). I never liked Raimis favourite villains. Webbs seem to be more up my alley, which makes me more excited for the future of the franchise. I never got excited for Raimis until Venom was announced, then it was clear he hated the damn villain and he completely half-assed it for the studio. Ugh.

100% agreed. I feel that one thing that made Raimi's series a little weak was the whole focus of the series being that Peter was destined to be with MJ. From the very first moment when he looked at her on the bus, until the last scene in SM3 when they held hands. He fought Doc Ock for her. He lost his powers for her. Heck, he got bitten by a spider because of her! (technically)I understand one of SM's traits is that he is a normal person, but sheesh.

For someone who loved ASM, can you give me some reasons why? I'm just curious and I want to compare my opinion.

Don't feed the trolls.

But it's so fun! Lol.

I at least give pretty exceptional reasons of why I dislike a film; saying something is an "epic fail" when it's really not is quite laughable because it's just a silly fanboy trolling around.

lol. oh thats the reason Raimi's trilogy is better? -_-

The Raimi movies takes a massive crap on TASM. The ending scene where "Spider-Man" shoots his web at the screen was stupid. Stupid because it looks like they ran out of money and said, "Whoops! We can only make him shoot his web a couple of inches out of his wrist". Epic fail.

They just wanted people to get the feel that Spider-Man was shooting his web out at the audience when they viewed the movie in 3D.

But it does look like the web only comes out a few inches from his wrist.

Because...it's a slo-mo shot and only shows the webbing shooting out.

It's MEANT to look like the web is only being shot for a few inches as that's when it fades to black.

LOL

Although I get what you mean.

I was expecting the web to cover the screen too, maybe that's why they did it. When it was still shooting out and it suddenly cut to "A MARC WEBB FILM" I was like... "wat". :funny:

The thing with ASM, unlike BB it doesn't blow the previous movies out of the water. The difference in quality between BB and the previous 4 movies is huge but I almost like ASM and the Raimi movies equally. I thought I was going to watch the ASM and then have no desire to see the Raimi movies again (like what happened with Batman). But no, I like the Raimi movies as much as I always have and to be fair the bar Raimi set with his first two movies is a high one.

Imho there is only a handful of movies I think is better than SM2 (imho)
TDK
TDKR
A case can be made for Iron Man, X2, X:FC, Avengers but for me I prefer SM2 to these movies.

Definitely only a handful of other CBMs better than Spider-Man 2, and I would definitely agree to your list, spider-neil.

SM2 blew me away. I like ASM a lot but I don't think it best the high water mark of the Spider-Man movies. I think ASM has the potential to top SM2 though as ASM a really good movie (imho) even though you can tell they were hampared with the origin story. They have now set up the world, the tone, the characters, let's see what they can do in their sandbox with no restrictions.

Not sure whether or not I consider SM2 and TASM even or TASM/SM2 above SM2/TASM... but I do think that while SM1 was a good movie, TASM was better.

If nothing, I'm glad we're getting a take on the character that's true to how he is, how he's always been and (hopefully) how he'll always be in the comics.

Just how some people prefer Tobey's Peter/Spidey and Andrew's Spidey/Peter... or just one and not the other, I didn't hate Tobey's Peter, I just prefer Andrew's. I wasn't fan of his almost mute Spider-Man though.

I would list it like this (for me);
TDKR
TDK
SM2
IM
X:FC
X2
ASM
SM
Avengers
Superman: The Movie

Maybe you can swap the top two but I enjoyed every minute of TDKR but I was completely checked out of TDK for the final 20 minutes (you can cut 20 mins off TDK easily).
No, I haven't forgetton about Batman Begins, I just think the movie is boring.

No, I am fine with the first two and where they are on the list, lol, but I do think I'd rank Superman: The Movie above Avengers, Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man, but that's just me.

What's strange is that...lately I've beginning to really enjoy Superman: The Movie much more than Superman II when it was a while when I felt the opposite.

S:TM loses a LOT of points for me because of the Deux Ex Machina ending.

I prefer Webb's movie over Raimi's but where Raimi really delivered was giving his movies that epic feel. I think Webb needs to incopotate 2 huge action set pieces in his movies.

Not cutting lots of points because of that

I just blame it on the film being in the late 70s, lol.
I won't cut points of it for doing something theoretically accepted at the time, but it loses points cause it showed Superman was fast enough to spin around the world as he did so many spins, but he didn't move this fast to catch the two rockets
HISHE said it best :funny:

I buy that Superman has to fly significantly slower to catch an explosive device because of friction and being able to hold an object at that speed. What I don't buy is a reset button when the **** hits the fan.

'Brainiac has destroyed downtown, I'll just fly back in time'

'Darkseid has levelled Japan, I'll just fly back in time'

'I've missed my train, I'll just fly back in time'

I don't like it AT ALL.

This plot contrivence pushes S:TM the movie out of my top 5 and nearly out of my top 10.

Spider-Man 2 is no where near my top 5. I think SM-1 is the better overall film in the Raimi franchise.

Poor Tobey

Always remembered for his cry face :funny:

I still like the Raimi films more than Amazing, at least 1 & 3
I repeatedly stated my problems with SM2 and why it's my least favorite, and stated reasons why SM3 is my favorite in the Raimi franchise, so don't make " WHAT?" faces or ask why, I'm not repeating myself
