No, I beg to differ. Iron Man is known more to people than members of the F4 minus the Thing, except children of the 90's. If you're a young guy who were brought up to like Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men, maybe. I grow up in the 80's and I know Iron Man. Tom Cruise and RDJr know Iron Man.
Please don't equate Iron Man with Daredevil and Ghost Rider. That would be ridiculous. Both characters are not in any self-titled cartoon. Heck, they're not in the Marvel vs Capcom or any coin-ops arcade. Iron Man is a Marvel Icon. DD is a semi. Ghost Rider is not.
Fantastic Four had a very popular cartoon series and has had 2 blockbuster movies. Dont even try it. Iron Mans in the exact same boat as Daredevil n Ghost Rider because they have had nothing outside of the comics.
You say "Marvel Icon"...too bad you don't saeem to know that dont mean jack**** to moviegoing audiences.
Character AWARENSS-not popularity-goes in this order...
1. SUPERMAN- Without a doubt, the most famous of all hero's. Spidey n Batman are defiently more popular, but I think MTV got it right when they made him the #2 biggest pop culture icon. 100/100 people would know Superman.
DISTANT 2nd-BATMAN-The 1960's Batman tv show was one of the most popular ever; and the original 1989 film was one of the most high profile movies ever made. The series is still huge. 99/100 people would know Batman.
CLOSE 3rd-SPIDER-MAN-and it is only close...because he has reached the level of Batman and Superman only recently. 99/100 people would know Spider-man.
4. The Incredible Hulk- WAY below the big 3 levels; but still in 4th, is ther Hulk. Again, huge tv show. The 2003 movie was very high profile, and was expected to be enormous, because the character is. 95/100 people would know the hulk.
5. FANTASTIC FOUR-their significantly below HULK..but theyve had 2 big films, and and a very popular cartoon series. 85/100 people would know the character belonged to the fantastic four.
6. X-MEN - very high profile films...but nothing else. Like The Fantastic Four, the fact that its more than one hero makes it harder to to tell....id say wolverine 90/100 people would know...all the other heros .... 75/100.
7. WONDER WOMAN...her tv show was huge. If they made a film version of her, shed come in fifth. 60/100 people would know her.
8 & 9 - tie between Daredevil and Ghost Ruder...these were heros who had nothing other then decent success as comics books, but since they were made into HIT movies...their awareness has gone up. I'd say 50/100 people would know them.
10-11 spots are toss up between characters like THE FLASH, AQUAMAN, ad GREEN LANTERN...Theyve had TV SHOWS or cartoons...but the shows werent big hits like supes, batman, n hulks were...or the cartoon werent popular like fantastic fours was.
and now, WAY behind the pack...is Iron Man. Why? WHAT DOES IT HAVE OUTSIDE OF COMICS? Sorry...but not many-in the 80's maybe 1/10, now probably 1/30 or 40- kids read comics. Look at the characters big in pop culture-Batman, Superman, Spider-man, the Hulk-what did they all have before their film debuts? BIG TV SHOWS. They had expanded into the public beyond their comic fanbases, and into mainstream America in an alternate form of entertainment...and found success. Thats their movies, when they were made...were so friggin huge. Their FAMOUS. WHAT DOES IRON MAN have?
Nothing. That is why he is gonna get compared to Daredevil and Ghost Rider...their the only 2 films that will be as high profile as Iron Man will be that are in its same boat: they had nothing outside of comics.
Of course...there are random hits like MEN IN BLACK...but Iron Man isn't the next MIB.
If you think Iron Man is more well known than the fantastic four, you have no grasp on the publics reality whatsoever. The only people who would know iron man would a percentage of comic readers....and seeing as thats like, 10 out of 100....a percentage of 10 isnt that great. Of course, this will all defiently change come next April and May, i'd say Iron Man would be X-MEN status....but not until then.
