Iron Man So Quiet. Has Marvel given up?

Everybody say it with me.

Samuel.

L.

Jackson.

Enjoy the quiet while it last. Besides, expectations are pretty high considering most people think Marvel having control over the movie means anything to the faithfulness of the adaptation.

I agree completely.

All eyes are on Marvel for this film. If this film doesn't at least equal the first SM (SM2 level expectations would be unfair, IMO) film Marvel will have no excuses. This is their chance to get their characters right. No excuses, no one to blame. Put up or shut up.

If they can't get their own characters right......?

That's a bit of an unfair expectation. If Superman and Batman can't even match the sucess of the Spider-man movies, why will this movie be a failure if it doesn't?

Wow, really? Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the character and I don't read the comics but I always thought Iron-Man was a huge name in Marvel. I always thought he was close to the level of Batman, but just never had a movie before :ninja:

He is one of the big players in Marvel. Just not exactly in the same way Batman or Superman are for DC.

He's pretty big at Marvel, but nowhere near as big as Batman is at DC, or in the world at large for that matter. Batman is basically DC's number 2, if not number 1 guy.

Not box office wise, I meant in terms of quality. I think the quality of the first Spider-man film is realistically attainable. As much as I would like to have high expectations for this film, the lack of high quality comicbook films other than Spider-man and Supes, along with the poor treatment other comicbooks have gotten lately on film, have me jaded towards the pessimistic side.

It takes a lot of talent, resources and true vision and understanding of these characters to bring them to life as they should, and right now other than the Spider-man and Supes films, I just don't see it or feel from any other comicbook films.

It still amazes me that after so many attempts, there are really only two franchises that actually got it mostly right. Supes and Spidey felt like their comic counterparts--not bad, half-assed, ego-driven, budget minded attempts at comicbook films. Why is it so hard for other studios to follow suit?

I'll agree with you there. I do hope that it is taken with all seriousness. I'm a little upset that we're learning Iron Monger is going to be the badguy and not Mandarin. But I'm still keeping an open mind.

Nah, it's really early, plus they just finished filming and just begining post-production. I think they'll start making noise at the Comic-Con with a teaser trailer or some footage, pics, and Q&A with the cast if they go.

And hopefully we'll get some videogame footage from SEGA for Iron Man and the Hulk at the E3 expo.

What's really interesting is that Marvel's movie rights are riding on how well the self financed movies do. If they don't do well, the movie rights revert to the Bank.

you guys... its friggin July! Once a teaser surfaces either in August with Rush Hour 3 or in December with I am Legend. There will be tons of more hype! Also sometimes overmarketing can prove bad for a film. Spider-man 3 had more marketing than than the previous films and guess what? It sucking *****ed.

is it true mr jackson part in this film fell through:trans:
With his most recent MySpace post, Jon tried to give that impression. However, our experience with Jon shows that he chooses his words very carefully and, as your Transformers icon suggests, there's more than meets the eye here.

I thought this was encouraging. From MySpace about SDCC, from a SD local.

I'll be there, but it's really easy for me since i live in SD.

By the way today i just came from downtown to the airport and all over the light posts they started hanging Comic-con banners with the Iron Man movie poster on them (banner form). Last year and a couple of years before it was just The Spirit on the banners now for this year its Iron Man.

yup , Its this one:

He said he'd go and snap a few pics of it and post 'em.

On the other hand, almost all the buzz I HAVE heard for Iron Man across the net has been overwhelmingly positive. Same with the VERY positive reactions to the armour reveals. In terms of quality, I have few doubts Iron Man will beat The Dark Knight.

But as has been said a thousand times, it's BATMAN. He's one of the top three, maybe even number one (though I'd put him at #2) comic book ICONS. There's going to be more buzz even if it's Batman and Robin 2. Add to that the positive word of mouth and the insane overreactions to the first one and... well, there's no way Iron Man can match it. Quality-wise though, it can kick it's ass.

Marvel won't give up on this, because it's too early, and they already sunk a **** load of money into this. However, because it's so early, there's not a whole hell of a lot to discuss.he's relatively unknown to those who aren't avid comic fans.

This is all true, but then again Marvel put money into FF2 and GR and both are now failures. But its still about a year from being in theaters...so there is not much, like other said.Wait..

I would hardly call FF2 or GR failures. While they may not being winning over critics, they've already made back their budget if you look at worldwide grosses. FF2 has made $200 on a budget of $130 GR has made $225 on a budget of $110.

Most people out there don't read sites like SH! or AICN daily or even weekly. Most people have no idea what's coming out next summer. Heck, the movie's not even done filming. Yes, it would be nice to have a teaser trailer, but why rush something a year away just to give fanboys a taste, especially when we've already gotten a taste of the armor? Wait until Spring 2008, and promotions should be full blast.

Its too early yet to say anyone has given up, there has been alot of positive buzz about the film, but to honest, filming is over, it's all post work now, there's really not alot of new things that will come out until early next year. SDCC will be huge, especially with what Jon calls a glimpse of the film, who know's how much we'll actually see.

Most movies just don't live up to the hype anyway. I'd rather just have a good movie that fewer people know about than a mediocre movie that everybody knows about. If the movie is good it will make it's money, just more from dvd's than it would from box office, should everybody know about it.

I'll agree with you there. I do hope that it is taken with all seriousness. I'm a little upset that we're learning Iron Monger is going to be the badguy and not Mandarin. But I'm still keeping an open mind.

A billionare industrialist with an Iron suit fighting a rival billionare industrialist with an Iron suit will make a lot more sense to the general public than a billionare industrialist with an Iron suit fighting a guy with a chinese chicken name, ten rings and alien technology.

Once the public's warmed up to Iron Man, the Mandarin will be a little easier to do.

I wish they'd start putting up some promo sites. They can make this movie look mysterious and new considering Iron Man isn't super popular.
