"So You Think You Can Mod?"--A Hype Reality Show!

If you win, what happens? Like you become a moderator or something?

SCENARIO #1:

For 400 Points:

"HYPESTER A has made it known that he despises gay people. He knows that HYPESTER B is gay because they've mentioned it publicly. HYPESTER A seems to appear in nearly every thread HYPESTER B participates in. He makes subtle knocks and insinuations about gay people, but he is civil about it and never uses gay jokes. He also never attacks HYPESTER B directly publicly or privately.

Question: The gay poster believes he's being singled out and harrassed and demands that you discipline HYPESTER A based on "assumptions." What do you do?

KEY POINT: Note that Hypester A is not "direct" with his trolling, nor has he attacked anyone. Technically he has not broken the rules. This is a gray area.

I would P.M Hypster B and warn him, and tell every other mod and SHH. So if I'm not on when he does it again then The other mods will know about it.

Scenario #2

Posting pornography on public boards is condemned by the site's rules. However, Hypester B is now claiming that Hypester A is sending him heterosexually-themed porn via PM. Please note that no derrogatory comments are included, but it is a known fact that Hypester A hates gay individuals. Hypester B feels that the harrassment has elevated to a new level and blames you--the moderator--for only choosing to "monitor" the situation from Scenario 1.

How would you mediate the conflict?

KEY NOTE: According to the site's rules, PMs (private messages) are inadmissable for judgement and should not be posted publicly. However, Hypester B has forwarded you the PMs containing porn for proof.

Ouch this would be really hard....ummmm I would put H A on a warning and H B on a probation, and again warn every mod about this. If H A admits, then I would put him on a week probation, if he doesn't and we still find out, then banned permantly.....

You would put Hypster B on probation? Because he forwarded the PM's to you with the links? How else would he let you know they were sent to him if he didn't show you exactly what was sent....

How else would I know if he could be making it up?

What is the point of me going to these forums if all I get is insults, even some mods insult me

The mods insult everyone.

Unlike us, they get away with it. 'Tis natural.

If A doesn't attack B directly, then there's no crime. I'd tell B that until a direct attack occurs, then A is allowed to be a bigoted dink, er, think as he/she wishes. I'd tell B to let a Mod know when a direct attack occurs and that you'll be monitoring the situation. Also, judgement has to be used about harrassment. Does A appear in threads other than those related to homosexuality? If so, then harrassment applies, if not, then not much you can do at this point.

I'd warn A about the pornography. I'd also tell B to restrict his PM's to buddies to keep A out of his PM box.

i'd suggest fighting fire with fire. hyperster B sends homosexually-themed porn to hypster A. eventually they'd both get pissed of and leave or give up.

Pm the guy for both sides of the story, check the threads and collate the data of evidence,

if it suggest he has been doing what the poster says he is doing,

instant Warning by pm.. if it is allot probation.

Watchin' a lot of CSI: Miami these days, eh? :hyper:

I'm not sure If I was clear as can be but I said that "SOME" mods insult me

I'd tell the Hypster getting the images in the PMs to block that user and that I can't control what the user does to others.
I'd also let HYPSTER A know he has a warning for harassing a user.

I'd Send the person who despises gays a PM telling him that he's obviously posting in alot of threads the gay member is posting in. Tell him that making remarks about gays can be hurting the member (don't say it is for sure, it could make him want to attack more because he feeds off of hurting).
Also, making gayish jokes in a thread could be considered spamming.
Thread: Iron Man Teaser!
HYPSTER B: Cool!
HYPSTER A: Gays are stupid and they would like a teaser about a guy wearing iron.

See, it's random and doesn't belong there.

Scenario #3
For 600 Points

Disgusted and fueled by what he percieves to be ineptness and poor management on your part (as a mod), Hypester B--a known homosexual user--ambushes Hypester A in a public thread. He reveals to everyone that Hypester A has been harrassing him with pornographic PMs, but his demands for justice have been ignored by you (the mod). To prove his story legit, Hypester B actually posts the PMs and porn in SPOILER TAGS for other users to verify.

Hypester B then proceeds to completely rip Hypester A apart verbally, using full expletives in a textbook flaming session. Accusations are hurled that Hypester A is a hypocritical gay basher who actually commits homosexual acts himself "on the down low". Hypester B also insults him with sexually-explicit, vulgar comments accusing Hypester A's father of incest and molestation. Other users reading the interchange turn on Hypester B and begin defending Hypester A, a user who is generally well-liked despite his sometimes crass-but-subtle comments. A 2 page flame war results.

Hypester A--a user who has previously expressed his dislike for gays--does not reply publicly to any of Hypester B's insults. Instead, he sends you a PM asking for mediation in his behalf. His message to you reads:

Hypester A said:
"Dude,

You know I hate fa**ots, but even I wouldn't do some of the sick **** this guy is accusing me of. This has gone too far and it is really pissing me off now. Can you please do something about him?"

What do you do?

Ends usually don't justify the means so Hypster B get's put on probabtion for posting pornography regardless of his or her intent.

The thread should be closed and deleted mostly because of the porn but also of the flame war that continued.

Again, while indeed a troll, Hypester A has not done anything "techinically" wrong. He or she doesn't deserve a banning or probation but to placate Hypester B, I would have sent Hypester A an informal pm reminding him of SHH's trolling policies.
