Due to my sudden interest in journals, I just got a book called "The Journey is the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon," which are a collection of journals kept by Dan Eldon, a 22-year-old war photographer who was stoned in Somalia in 1993.

While in college, Dan founded a student aid group to help refugees flee Mozambique. There's a spread in the book containing photos of the participants in 1990, and there is a "Chris Nolan" shown, who is the spitting image of our dear Batman director (except...younger-looking. :oldrazz: ). He is referred to as "Chris Nolan Mandrake, camera man" on the next page.

Just a random and trippy thing that I found today...I could scan in the photos if you guys want to take a look.

Wow. That's freaky. Like the mercurial King of Atlantis, I too am curious...

Poor guy was stoned to death, that tells you how Samolia's doing right now as far as progress

So. Here's the evidence!

Top row, middle picture. Dan Eldon is second row, far left. Shame that he died so young - he seemed to be a thoughtful, reflective, and ambitious young man.

Closeup of the page:

I personally think he looks EXACTLY like our Chris Nolan...

Jeez, his hair hasn't moved an inch in 13 years.

Hell, I'd gladly settle for one of his coats.

He has some awesome coats.

I wish I had his job
No way I would take his job even if he offered, seems like way to much. I would LOVE to be a designer though, or a consultant.

Wow... hehe... his face was sure a lot skinnier back then.

But that is unmistakably him. Nice find!

I can't believe I'm delurking to comment on something not quite related to Batman. Anyway, Anita, I also have Dan Eldon's book. It's amazing, isn't it? I got it as a gift years ago and couldn't put it down.

Did you know that there were plans to make Dan Eldon's story into a movie about ten years ago and that Christian Bale was considered for the role of Dan? The movie never got made, but Bale ended up reading excerpts from Eldon's journals in the excellent documentary about war journalists, "Dying to Tell the Story." I wonder if Nolan and Bale ever talked about their Dan Eldon connection. Doesn't it all seem very coincidental?

Okay, back to lurking.

Wow. She registered JUST to make that post.

Of all the things to register to comment on... hehehe...

Heh, it's THAT random and trippy, that's why. It's fate, I tell ya. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if it came up at some point in Bale and Nolan's conversations, but I dunno if Nolan would want to be a part of the project if it ever came to fruition. If he was though, I'd be behind him all the way.

Sounds kind of interesting. I'd never heard of this cat Eldon, but then, in 1993, I really wasn't paying attention to world news anyway. I in high school, I didn't care about anything except comic books and finding a nice girl.

Actually... that's pretty much still true.

At any rate... why was the dude stoned to death?

He was in Somalia as a war photographer (for a 22-y-o, talk about having an adventurous life), and a mob stoned him after he and several fellow photographers were at the scene of a UN bombing. The UN had thought the house was the headquarters of General Aidid, apparently the big bad guy. They were dreadfully wrong. It's a horrible situation altogether.

Still not clear on why he got stoned, though. It's not like he dropped the bomb personally. I guess he was just the first westerner they saw, is that it? Talk about senseless violence...

It's kind of like what happened in the LA riots, I suppose.
