The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot budget thread: What is the real actual budget?

What do suspect the real budget is?

  • 80 million dollars

  • more like 150 million dollars

  • neither

Location filming is expensive, this is why comparing it to Sucker Punch and 300 is not a good idea.

Maybe, maybe...
But still, nobody has ever confirmed the budget, and I just can't believe that the budget of a Spiderman film would be only 80 million, it doesn't make sense.

Spiderman 3 made soooo much money, why would they cheap out now?
Besides, I heard that Sony took a part of the Ghost Rider spirit of vengeance-budget and gave it to the Amazing Spiderman.
Though that's not confirmed either, it seemes really possible, since Spiderman is the main money maker and Ghost Rider wasn't popular

I'm sure the budget is more like 150 million. Obviously none of us know for sure, but compare it to other recent studio tentpoles:

Iron Man: $140
The Dark Knight: $185
Star Trek: $150
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: $200
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: $250
Iron Man 2: $200
Inception: $160

Then, keep in mind that in the last ten years there hasn't been a superhero film with a budget under $100 million.

At the end of the day, they're shooting on location in NYC and Los Angeles, with major action set-pieces, presumably worthy of a summer 2012 4th of July release.

Hell, I'd bet it ends up costing at least $180 million.

You have a good point there.
But wasn't Daredevil's budget like $78 million?

Why do any of you even give a crap as to how much the movie will cost to make? It's a spidey movie, Sony's golden goose, they're not going to carve it up because of x,y,z reasons. Sure, this movie doesn't need to cost as much as Raimi's movies to make, especially when they're implementing far more effective and practical methods to make this movie but either way, who cares what figures sony quotes or doesn't quote. Technically, it's none of our business to concern ourselves with. Lets just hope the movies are great and that they make a killing at the BO.

Well, that's just as stupid question as if I would ask you "why do you give a crap about the other threads?"
A lot of people have been talking about how the movie will be way more cheaper than the other films, so it seems to be an interesting subject.

Also, I am not interested about how much the movie will end up costing, I'm interested that if it will look cheap. And with a film like this that mostly depends on the budget.

But anyway, thanks for your opinion!

Well high budget and most expensive show does not even " save" Spidey musical in Broadway.

In general, I think you're probably right, because whatever the budget ends up being, I don't think it will end up preventing a sequel.

But the reasons people care about the budget are two-fold:

A) We don't want Sony to keep cheap on us, because Spidey deserves state of the art cutting edge action sequences. You can't have a movie with state of the art cutting edge action sequences on a budget of $80 million.

B) In general, the budget is important because it tends to have impact on sequels. Now, in Spidey's case (particularly if the rumored budget is on the low end) this isn't really important, because Sony will continue to make Spidey movies until the end of time. But it's a factor to think about with other tentpoles.

Also, FWIW I don't think Daredevil having a smaller budget is relevant. While it proves my point wrong (boo) about no superhero movie over the last ten years having a budget under 100 million, it was still almost 8 years ago (inflation matters) and wasn't nearly as VFX heavy as Spidey.

very true

Then you're not very bright are you.

There's no way on earth Sony/Marvel will ever let their hottest and symbolic trademark, top tier superhero movie look cheap. The fact that you know full well this movie is actually being filmed in 3D completely nullifies your concern, so, again, what is the point of giving a crap? With the other threads it's different, there's a lot to speculate on but when it comes to the financial injection this production needs, it's a pointless concern. This isn't the first time a spidey movie is being made, the film is being shot in 3d, the implementation of practical effects is being utilized more so than ever before and this movie will be competing against some of the biggest movies of 2012 and you're wondering if this film is going to look cheap??? LMAO, nice one, chuck :whatever:

What is the real actual budget is......200 million dollar! End of this thread. :D

If only it was 200 million dollars... :woot: we'll, either way I think we'll have an amazing movie!
*no pun intended*

EDIT: WHAT THE ****, IT REALLY IS 200 million?? I knew they never would have a tiny budget for a Spiderman film :D

^^ I really thought it could have been $80 mil, tbh. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Throwing money at a movie doesn't make it a great or even good. The problem with most directors is, they don't know what the hell to do with a huge budget. They just lace the film with a bunch of CGI, the hell with the story, dialogue and character development. Give the movie-goers a couple of action scenes and watch them foam at the mouth.

Here's to hoping that a character driven script/story, good acting and dialogue comes along with that 200M dollars--or we're gonna get kicked in the ass again with mediocrity!

I have heard that this movie will indeed be very character driven

Speaking of budget, have any movies used all of their budget? I usually assume that movies stay within their budget, which means there will be some leftover money.

Yeah that happends, but I think with Spiderman they just want to get as much out of it as they can

That is what they have described it as, I've read it several places but I've forgotten where. :oldrazz:

Even though I wish for a lot of character development, I wish that this still wont be too character driven. It should still have some jaw dropping action scenes.
This might be the best way to say what I want:
I want an action movie with drama and interesting story instead of a drama movie with action

^^ You mean you want something like S-M2? So do I! Though, I can't speak for you.

Yeah that would be great, but I also want Peter Parker to be wittie, to balance out the drama you know. In Raimi series the drama parts maybe put a little too much emphasis on the drama sometimes.
But yeah, Spiderman 2 is still a pretty good example of what I want to see

Ehh, I disagree but to each his own. Personal, I don't mind the quips at all since they are in the comics, but they aren't 100% needed, IMO. It's possible that quips could take the audience out of the action sequences, but we'll see.
