yes, like Venom. here's my design:

the random webbing on the costume looks bad, really bad.

I wouldn't say really bad-but confusing, maybe. Hard to push a toy line & we can't pretend that Sony isn't going to factor that in.

wow...i like the more realistic messy webbing...makes it edgy and different...
as for the ultimate #1 suggestion...ew.

ouch! you want to get the knife out of my back, or you just going to leave it there? and you only say that because you're used to a more pretty design. if the original design was randomized webbing, you wouldn't be like "ewww, they should have made that design a little more uniform and symmetrical", you know?

true, but it wouldn't be that difficult to produce.

i do too, i was surprised. it's different, a little more modern, but still spidey! the only thing i didn't really like with my outcome, was the eyes... they look a little out of place. but i really wanted classic lenses. maybe i'll try something else later.
and ditto on the ultimate #1. i think i threw up in my mouth a little.

My kid said "Messy webbing? Really?" Then he warmed up to it a bit. Again, a factor you can't ignore.

sorry ntbone it just looks like spiderman sewed it together with his eyes closed. it doesnt look like spiderman, more like a bizarro spiderman.

that's what a spider web looks like though. i'm not trying to change your mind, because everyone's entitled to their opinion, but i happen to like it.

I think maybe you should take another crack at it; add a little more curvature to the webbing so it doesn't look quite so stiff.
Oh-and I can't tell you how many times I presented that argument of "that's what spider webs look like" to the purists who ranted about the webs being silver instead of black. There is not a spider on this planet that makes black silk, but they want it the way they're used to.

my older bro who doesnt like comics and doesnt care for spidey just saw that design on screen...he said whatcha lookin at? i said it was the new spidey movie design...he said "eyes look weird...love the webbing...makes it look bad***"
haha :oldrazz:

too true. i might work on it again later. i spent all weekend on that design though, and if i don't see photoshop again anytime soon, i'll be a happy camper.

and Cay, that's awesome!

here's the last thing i made pertaining to my new design. you can see the design of the fabric better here:

thanks. i actually am happy with it too. here's why i like it:

a) it's a more modern version of the original design. so it's true to the original costume, with slight modifications (like changing the size of the spider or what-not).
b) the random web works as an allusion to how chaotic Pete's life is. also, it can help to make it more believable that a high school kid made the costume if it's not perfect and pretty.
c) it's still your "friendly neighborhood spider-man", but it can also be menacing to criminals. it's scary, but at the same time you can still trust it, because it's still spidey.

Some of the other manips are trying too hard to make the suit look like a high schooler could've made it.

Ntbone, I like the more realistic webbing idea. It's looks more real world based for Peter to make, I'm not saying Peter couldn't pull off his symetrical design.

I reminds me of the crazy suit that was featured in Spiderman Noir. Rough, heavy stitched webbing looked great on that suit. I think the only thing that would be the most difficult obsticle to over come is his mask.

The mask is so iconic.

I dig the realistic web pattern, ntbone. I really do. Now would I want it for the movie? I don't know, but I think it would be great to introduce it in a comic first to warm people up to it a bit. How would the design look if it was classic black webbing and not silver? Though I love the silver too...

I like that, random webbing gives it a cool edge we've never seen before. The backround confused me for a bit till I worked out it was your username over and over.

Spidey's classic costume has been around for almost 50 years. I can understand interpreting the web color, the spider emblem or the eyes... but REALLY??? How "Edgy" or "Hip" does Sony need to make the costume for FANS to be interested? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Changing the web like that is so minimal it's almost like changing the Spider logo or the eyes. Its not like going the route of Scarlet Spider's costume and changing the whole thing.

That's a good point; the suit is 50 years old! Name one thing that has been unchanged for 50 years? (if you say the Coca Cola recipe, i'll strangle you) Things inevitably evolve, and what worked 50 years ago needs to be updated. i understand your point, and i can totally appreciate your opinion, but that's my stance on the subject. I TOTALLY love the original ditko design, and if they used it in the film, no one would be happier than me. But i can also see them changing the suit to make it a little more modern. and i don't see anything wrong with that.

and i tried the black webbing, but it didn't look good. trust me. i'll try to do it again and post it later, but it looked boring to be honest.

Boring. That's the word. I've gotten so spoiled by the raised web that the flat black markings look boring to me now. And honestly, I've seen some REAL abominations in an attempt to update his look-the Stark armor foremost among them. But this isn't so far removed that it just doesn't look like Spidey. The original black suit that fans are so enraged never made it to the Raimi movies was further removed than most of the designs I've seen here.
