Spider-man REBOOT! How would you do it!

Tell me in this reboot, how would you make the origin story different enough to justify REMAKING IT in less than years? Please I am curious to see why the origin needs to be retold and how it would be done again. Then make the rest of the said movie radically different enough from the first two (flopping GG and Doc Ock in the order they appear is not enough) besides adding Gwen, so as this movie does not feel like a retread?

why would we want a reboot?

the movies are fine

so 3 wasn't quite as good, Temple of Doom and Return of the Jedi aren't even close to the other two movies in their respective series

continue on with a 4, hit a homerun again and it won't matter

If they do a reboot I would like to see a serious tone, and hopefully they bring the gang war storyline to the big screen.

have the spider-man comics ever had a real serious tone?

even in the most serious of storylines spidey brushes it off with a goof ball remark or too, the tone of the movies is fine

Man, those f'n Spiderman movies were awful. I felt like I was watching one of those made for TV movies we used to get as kids.

F'n Thor, Hulk and Iron Man are going to be 10 times better and more serious than these Spiderman films we got over the last few years.

hayden is far too short to be gwen stacy

edit:are you casting for pedo-man?

everybody in that list is far too young looking

Too young-looking to be in high school???

Is Gwen's height essential to the essence of the character?

Spider-man/Peter Parker - Shia LeBeouf

Mary Jane - Vanessa hudgens

Gwen Stacy - Hayden Panettiere

Uncle Ben - William Devane

Aunt May - Meredith Baxter or Debra Jo Rupp

Green Goblin/Norman Osborn - Michael Massee

Harry Osborn - Emile Hirsch

Doctor Octopuss -Sam Neil

I like this cast a lot... especially for a movie reboot, but I agree with a previous poster that the only way I'd really enjoy a Spidey reboot behind such awesome movies is as a TV series... and honestly... even if the movies never came out a Heroes-level Ultimate Spider-Man version of Smallville with more classic homage would be ownage, pure and simple.

Peter Parker: Michael Angarano
The kid from Sky High, last seen on 24. Solid chops, affordable, wide range, plenty of angst experience and easy to empathize with.

Spider-man: Duane Carnahan
Great stuntman that's not yet a man, about the right height.

Gwen Stacy: Hayden Panettiere
Heroes star is awesome, and sexy and can still pull of the innocent look.

Mary Jane:
The hardest cuz she has to pull off a likable party girl instead of the sensitive chick from movies and ultimate books.

Aunt May: Dianne Keaton
Experienced, almost too much so, making her TV-affordable for a good project, and there's fewer strong old women with such skillful support.

Add harry to that and call it the main cast... every one else is just arc-long guest stars...

At least, that's how I'd do it...

Why are people entering this thread questionning the proposed handeling of a reboot? This isn't a thread discussing, "should spider-man be rebooted?" Anyway, in regards to retelling the origin story, I'd appreciate the directorial services of Favreau because he seems to be one of the few directors who actually knows how to translate a comic into film. I'd like to see Peter in high school, juggling his school work with the bullying antics of flash and of course his fancying Liz. Pete becomes spidey, gets a job at the bugle and blah blah blah. Lets flesh these stories out, capturing the characters growth over a good number of years ala Harry Potter, thats why my asting of the lead characters are of a suitable age, as opposed to hiring a mid or late 20 something year old.

I m not interested in a reboot and I am not a fan of teenage movie at all! The love affair between tobey and Kirsten Dunst got me sick!!! I would like an older version spiderman 25-30 years old.

Make the movie as if you were making a "teen" movie... but give it alot of block buster action, spidey (in the silver age) was always a teen soap opera with a wise cracking character, with a heart of gold. Trick is you gotta "whedon it" make the stories indept and serious, yet make the dialogue/movie also fun.

Well Whedon-ing it and making it a teen movie are not the same things despite what Buffy fans say. Teen movies after all, generally suck.

And in many ways Sam Raimi made SM1 and arguably the whole series "teen movies," just with his style and concern for depth of character and fanbosy sit a gold nugget in outrage (even though the comics were never deadly serious or THAT subtle in the Stan Lee heyday).

You can't win. Ifi you made "your" movie that was incredibly faithful to what you wanted to see (Gwen and MJ, mech shooters, Peter as intelligent, etc.) I GARUNTEE the purists and fanboys would still find something to hate about it, because you made your movie and not THEIR movie.

And therein lies the rub.

sm1 was the only one close to a "teen" movie.... 2 and 3 were too "depressing" and drama filled and less "teen fun" so i'd hardly call raimi's franchise, teen films

and believe it or not whedon is actually praised by several in the entertainment industry, he did several ground breaking things with buffy, and does an amazing job of mixing humor and "teen" stuff with serious stories and some amazing writting. Infact i'd go out on a limb and say he's the only one who could make a typical "teen" film, an award winner

Lets just say if Whedon were to take over from Raimi, we'd definately get much better movies.

i'd agree to that, as long as it was highschool/college spidey. they'd be a hell of alot more fun...

though id prefer whedon on X-men, cuz we know he can handle them

It would be narrated by Stan Lee, (Not too corny) to add that nostalgia from the 60's cartoon. Not a lot of lines for Stan but maybe 5 or 6 times Stan gets a short paragraph to explain whats going on in poor Pete's life. I think fan boys would drool over it. :cwink:

I'll give you Jedi but Temple of Doom owns Last Crusade. Raiders >>>>> all though, including Star Wars movies.

I never said Whedon was a teen filmmaker. I think Serenity is better than any superhero movie made to date and would love to see him do a Spidey or preferably (knowing his ensibilities) an X-Men movie. Though I"d rather he do college years as his high school drama is a little too by the numbers, but it is his extraordinary wit and sense of character and dialogue that makes him stand so high.

Okay....I'm just going to point out that 5 or 6 breaks for VO is a lot for any film and if you've ever heard Stan talk it would be crazy. Especially if he uses phrases like "'Nuff said, true believers," etc. I mean remember his one little scene in SM3, it was a nod to the fans, random and 3/4 of my audience went "WTF?!" and didn't like it.

Now to have that as the narrator....fanboys would attack you for not taking the source material safely and call you a liar for never reading the comics and never getting the source material.

That would be untrue or at least impossible to prove, but it happens to Raimi every day.

I would either reboot Spider-man by making a live action TV show, Buffyesque with lots of special effects, and start over
(or perhaps carry on where the movie left off, with a new cast of coarse.)
or
I would reboot Spider-Man by starting (sort of) where the movie left off (with some changes) and have Spider-Man be a young adult now. No redoing the origin.
Maybe even make this a live action TV series.

I like the idea of continuing on the Spider-Man movie world in a live action TV series,
we do have the cartoon coming out that looks like its rebooting everything.

No, I do't want Stan Lee narrating any live actioncomic book movies. Save his narrations for the games.

Anybody narrating other than Spidey's voice maybe at the very beginning is a bad idea, in general.

BTW I must add that if there was to be a 3rd party narrator, Stan would really hurt the movie. Now Bruce Campbell? That on the other hand...

Stiill a bad idea, but a funny one, at least.

If they were going for a 15-17 year old Peter Parker in the hypothetical reboot, then how about Michael Cera?

I'd honestly ditch that too. I find it distracting, especially in the sequels.

narrations for a tv show usually suck anyway... esp if there not done by one of the main characters... now an episode or 2 with a narrator (as long as it's one of the actor and there pov of that episode is fine)

My Reboot would be.
Director - Alfonso Cuaron (just really want to see him make a Superhero flick), or Joss Whedon

Cast
Peter Parker - Kyle Gallner
Gwen Stacy - Kristen Bell
MJ - Mary E. Winstead
Norman Osborn - Adrian Pasdar
Harry Osborn - ?
Aunt May - Joan Allen
Uncle Ben - Jonathan Frakes

Also Peter would be in his first year of College. Keep the organic webbing. Look more like McFarlane's version.

There s no need to reboot at all! But if we have to reboot

first the story will be about Kingpin and the sinister 6

I would cast Zach Braff as petter parker
