Spider-man REBOOT! How would you do it!

I just kinda' want to say Pasdar, Allen and Franks are taking some REAL BIG STEPS down from Academy Award winning/nominated actors Dafoe, Rosemary and Robertson to them.

Now Burn Notice has taught us one thing...a VO for a TV show can still work and be hilarious.

Assuming the Spider-Man franchise never happened, I would have cast Topher Grace as Pete, and not even have had MJ until the 2nd movie. Start with Gwen like it should have been. Willem Dafoe was perfect for Norman/G. Goblin, but I'd redo the costume obviously. Something that includes some purple and lets Dafoe act. Maybe something somewhat batman style where the mouth and eyes are exposed.

First movie would have the Lizard as the villain, and would be a more personal story with Pete just coming into his powers and such. 2nd film would introduce MJ as one of Gwen's friends and deal with green goblin. Gwen would be killed by GG tossing her off the bridge leading to the eventual fatal confrontation between Spidey and him. 3rd movie would have Pete and MJ growing together as they comfort each other after Gwen's death, and Pete would fight Doc Ock, pretty much how they did him in Spidey 2. The death of Gwen and the death of DO's wife would give them an even stronger emotional connection in the finale. Also deals with Harry blaming Spidey for GGs death.

2nd trilogy would start with JJJ and the Scorpion project. Harry would be involved and use some of the technology developed for Scorpion to aid in improving the goblin technology. 5th would deal with Harry and Pete coming to blows with Harry as the new goblin. Would end in an uneasy truce. 6th film would be Venom, with Eddie Brock being introduced sometime in the 3rd or 4th film. Harry would sacrifice himself saving Pete from Venom. MJ and Peter would finally get together in this film.

Pete would have the mechanical web shooters a la Ultimate Spider-Man, where he merely completed and altered his father's adhesive formula rather that doing it from scratch.

Oh, that reminds me (all the talk of narration) add to my ideas of a live action show of Peter as an adult, Peter Parker/Spider-Man must have alot of narration.
Narration whenever its meant to be thought bubbles too.

Internal Monologue I believe is the technical term. And yes, that is sorely missing.

Well it is at the beginning and in the first and third, at the end. And people complained saying it made the movies cheesy. You do that fanboys will attack and say "why can't it be more like BB?"

I think, in a TV show format, and with more internal monologues here and there (not just at the start or the end or the shows or film) the monologues would make sence and seem better.
Its Spider-Man, something he always does. it worked when Sin City did it, its something most comic films are missing.

How would I do it? I wouldn't.

Same goes for Hulk. Batman needed it, and Superman's doing fine so far. They just need to get him a new frakkin' villain. And Spider-Man needs to keep going in the direction it's headed, and hopefully Raimi and the others will stick around.

I could go for a film with Spidey vs. the Sinister Six, and here's hoping they get to the Clone Saga. Long live the Scarlet Spider!

Thats the best cast on the boards I would have to say! Nice man, plus i could TOTALLY see a scene with JJJ and Peter with that cast!

More smart ass quips, less slapstick, less crying. Nuff said.

Yeah you notice most of the actors I've picked(Shia, Gary, Jason, Sally) are actors who can be funny and dramatic. I think thats the best way to go if you're handeling something like Spidey. I kinda cringe on Sam Raimi's take on unintentional humor. While Apatow's take is relateable and humorous.

:yay:  Couldnt have said it better myself. but spidey always needs that drama.
Well, pretty much all superheroes need that drama.

Spider-Man's smart ass remarks have long been part of his character and were evident in pretty much all his animated adaptations. I'm pretty sure there's a story in the comics somewhere where Spidey explains that the reason he makes these jokes and humorously banters with his enemies in the heat of battle is because it helps him stay calm in the face of adversity. This element seems to be missing in the Sam Raimi films; now I don't full on hate the Raimi Spider-Man films, but the sense of humor in Raimi's films is more Three Stooges slapstick than the smart ass, dare I say it, borderline Schwarzenegger jokes that Spider-Man usually uses. And a little slapstick goes a long way.

The Spiderman movies are the most successful superhero franchise in history.

That makes it a pretty unlikely candidate for a reboot any time soon.

Best (or maybe worst) anyone can expect is an eventual change of some cast members and a shift in tone (darker, lighter, whatever).

As for redoing the orgin, why??? The original is about as good a Spiderman origin film as anyone could hope for. (Power ranger goblin excluded of course)

I would like to add that the current Spider-Man films suck, especially no 3.

Tmr I will add my version of how I would reboot the series, and how it would be different to the current craptastic film series.

Gary Oldman as Norman Osborn?

Don't see it at all.

I agree with the internal monologue. That is a big part of the character that I missed. Also I would minimize the amount of time spent with the costume on without the mask on. It seems like Tobey kept taking the mask off during the three movies, maybe just to get more camera time, or to prove that it was him in some of the scenes. Whatever the reason its not something that I really see spider-man doing. Keep the action scenes as is, but perhaps have the villans more comic true. I loved how spidey looked but it always bothered me that the other costumed people looked like watered down versions of themselves.
aside from those points and a total recast. I have nothing else to say

HuH? The only watered down version were the Goblins. Everyone else looked kick ass.

Other than Spider-Man 3, I didn't see what was so awful about the Spider-Man franchise as a whole. I'm not trying to be that guy going, "how would I reboot it? I wouldn't! You guys are dumb!" but I'm just curious why you people are bashing these movies. I've noticed a lot of negativity about the Spider-Man films only after part 3 came out. But prior to 3 everybody praised the first two movies, so I don't get it.

thats not entirely true
my bashing came hot on the heals of spider-man 2.

I liked the first movie a lot. But after that it just went somewhat downhill. Too much drama in the second not enough action and the third was just silly.

i agree with you but...
do be careful where you say that. I made similar, though slightly more biased comments, and was branded a heretic.
