Far From Home Spider-Man Sequel General Discussion and Speculation

I still prefer the idea of Mysterio as a superhero wanna be turned bad. Someone who uses filmmaking techniques as a substitute for superpowers and is really only in it for fame (maybe he’s inspired when suddenly all the superheroes disappeared.)

You could even sneak in a sly joke about Gyllenhaal almost being Spider-Man once.

I like this idea as long as they keep it from being Max Dillon-y

Plus Miles is Donald Glover's nephew, he's more than likely elementary-kid age. Waaayyy too early for Miles, maybe introduce him on Peter's 6th or 7th movie or something, when Tom's like early 30s.

What if Mysterio is a sorcerer who pretends to be a special fx guy who works on movies.

Mysterio should not be an actual sorcerer. That sort of defeats the character's purpose. He's all about sleight of hand.

Syndrome from the Incredibles?

Out of curiosity we still haven’t had anything cleared up or explained about the big 8 years later thing from the first film right? I just can’t belueve that they made such a big error like that and it got by them and into the film. It’s so annoying.

The Russos called it an error already.

Still annoying now that an error like that was put into the film. And every time I watch the film now I have to see that 8 years later title card come up. Just irks me to make that big of an error haha.

Yeah I don't want him to actually know magic or have real knowledge of it. I do think this movie can have a slight lead into Dr.Strange.

What if they do a movie within a movie. Mysterio works in movies and they want to make a film about Spider-Man so they try to get filming on it right away.

I think the phase 1 movies really got everyone mixed up. When Agent Coulson talked to Thor about encountering the Destroyer, he said it was last year. That would have put the events of the Avengers in 2009/2010 area. Which would have made that scene in Homecoming accurate. Of course then you get into another wide array of date mix ups.

Get the copy without it.

Much like most of Spidey's villains, Mysterio works best kept simple. He's an ego-maniac obsessed with fame. He sees an opportunity to use his talents to achieve that fame as a super-criminal. I'd love for him to be the one to coin the "super-villain" term within the MCU.

The "8 years later" thing doesn't bother me, I just pretend the films have a floating timeline anyway

I wouldn't be surprised if they fixed the title card in the Phase 3 boxset.

Yeah that's true. Especially after they've corrected themselves in IW.

The timeline issue doesn't start with Homecoming, but the "8 Years Later" is just the most obvious one.

Iron Man 2 takes place 6 months after IM1. The Avengers is noted to take place about 1 year later, 2012. So...

Iron Man = late 2010
Iron Man 2 / Thor / The Incredible Hulk = 2011
The Avengers = 2012
Civil War = 2016
Spider-Man: Homecoming = 2016
The Avengers: Infinity War = 2018

Civil War: Tony Stark revealed himself as Iron Man 8 years prior, per Vision. But that happened in 2010, so it should have been 6 years, not 8. Unless Iron Man 1 now takes place in 2008 again?

Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place in 2016, two months after Civil War. So it cannot be 8 years after The Avengers (2012), because that would place it in 2020, 2 years after Infinity War (2018) which would be impossible.

The 8 years later thing doesn't bother me at all. Minor continuity errors don't bug me. I put them in the same category as bloopers. Only major breeches in continuity are a problem for me. Like if Avengers 4 comes out and completely ignores the events of Infinity War, that's an issue. A 2 second title card? Nah.
