Far From Home Spider-Man Sequel General Discussion and Speculation

It's completely legitimate to look at Sony's terrible output and look at the movies they're proposing and ask who they are for.

You don't just take what the movie is into consideration, you take the who and the why as well and come to the conclusion that no one is really wanting Sony to make any villain spin-off movie.

Very simple concept to understand. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't "legitimate".

Pretty much. And given the over saturation of the character recently and the way it was handled before by Sony by almost draining the brand dry why wouldn’t you be skeptical. Why make a movie no one wants and many people have said they don’t want? Not hard to grasp.

So the film will be in Europe, huh. Well, Spidey did go to London in the comics.

I actually really dig the idea of taking Spidey out of Queens and Manhattan for a change and for him to have a foreign adventure . It makes me wonder if the baddies could be Kraven or Chameleon .

The possible European baddies Spidey could go up against:

Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter
Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon (Kraven's half-brother)
Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino
Morbius the Vampire
Doctor Otto Octavius/Dr. Octopus.

There's also Norman Osborn who has had dealings in Europe in the comics. It's quite possible Watts and the writers could go this route where Norman is more a background, ancillary character to introduce him into the MCU before later down the line making him more of a threat and eventually Green Goblin. This could also open the door to having Harry in the sequel. Problem with this idea is it'll feel like "ASM2" where both Norman and Harry are featured in the sequel.

There's also the possibility of changing a character's origin to have them be based in Europe. After all, it sounds like Gwen Stacy might be an exchange student or on a study abroad trip with Peter.

But I, like others, feel like Kraven and Chameleon are the safest bets. They also represent Watts' more grounded feel.

Ummmm cause of Sony’s record before? And guardians is a team and have comics dedicated to them. The villains work only with Spider-Man involved? Guardians was a huge gamble? Guardians was also part of the mcu? Sony had a bad track record. Ant man was made after 10 successful marvel films so naturally they could do whatever?

Sheesh
Sony's track record is one argument. The tired "No one asked for this movie" is a completely different argument. Both Venom and Silver Sable have seen success in their own individual series. I get that GOTG and Ant-Man were helped by the MCU's track record, but I would argue as far as GA perception is, Sony doesn't have a "track record". They don't see "Venom" and connect it to the TASM franchise.

Sony's track record is the argument. No one wants these villain movies because no one wants Sony making them.

And the reception of Homecoming compared to ASM 2 would prove you wrong.

Silver sable would not have great sucess outside spiderman nor would Black cat. They would look at them as knock offs of a spy and catwoman. Spiderman makes the characters work cause they are part of HIS story and it's his lore. Venom is apart of spiderman. Using venom by himself instead of spiderman is a head scratcher. And yes everyone knows Sony is a hack and GA usually wants MCU or bust. Sony is responsible for emoji movie and Ghostbusters 2016 so people already have a very sour view of SOny movies.

I hear SONY also released a Jumanji film recently that no one asked for. How dare they....:oldrazz:

So filming almost entirely in Europe, huh? Thoughts?

Well it's new for a Spidey movie.

I'll wait to hear more details before dramatically overreacting.

Yeah. Could be really cool though. As long as it still feels like a high school movie TAKEN somewhere else and not the other way around.

I hope we see spidey swing from tall buildings
Same.

Entirely in Europe? Well, that's... Different. Thought it was going to be like Pete going on a Field Trip like Homecoming.
Still could be like that but instead it’s the whole flick. Who knows? We’ll see.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel Reportedly Casting A New "Femme Fatale" Female Lead

We recently confirmed that the 2019 sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming would begin production this spring with principal photography taking place in either Germany or the UK. Now we have an idea of why! We’ve learned from our source that Marvel Studios, under the supervision of longtime casting director Sarah Finn, the sequel is searching for "an International European in her 20's" to play a new "femme fatale female lead." That certainly doesn't sound like the Gwen we know from the comics, but of course, this could be a different character altogether. Some recently leaked audition videos seemingly confirmed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel would introduce a European take on Gwen Stacy, but now our friends over at That Hashtag Show have provided a very interesting casting update, which - provided the description is even about the same character - could suggest that the film will be taking an even bigger liberty with the classic Spidey heroine.

Is there a chance Felicia Hardy/Black Cat or Silver Sable might be introduced here ahead of their upcoming spinoff?

Speculation about a European setting has made its way around the internet since two publicly available audition videos surfaced which featured two young, European actresses reading for the role of Gwen Stacy as reported by Omega Underground. While we cannot confirm that this role is Stacy (in fact, if it were it would represent a major reimagining of the character…not that Marvel Studios wouldn’t do that), we can confirm that Peter Parker will cross paths with a mysterious European young lady that will likely lead him into danger.

Peter in Germany to attend a workshop with renoved scientist doctor Octavius?
Only for it to be disrupted by Russian agents Kravinoff and Smerdyakov?

Black Cat/Felicia Hardy makes sense for a few reasons.

Firstly, Sony has tried to put Black Cat into a Spiderman film going as far back as Raimi's Spiderman 2 and Spiderman 4. Then they introduced her in ASM 2 with plans for her to become Black cat in a sequel. Like Vulture, she's a character they've always wanted to do ,but never found the right time to bring her in.

Secondly, its make a heck of a lot more sense to introduce her in SMHC2, then use that appearance , and potentially popular audience response, as a platform for her own spin off film Silver and Black.

Third, it would create a dynamic not seen in a Spiderman film before, with Peter potentially being drawn to the bad girl for a change, and to deal with a potential female foe for the first time in screen.

Hopefully it's Black Cat, she's long overdue to appear in one of these films. Her being European potentially would be different sure, but it could still be interesting.

Also I kind of like the idea of taking Spider-Man out of Queens/NYC (at least for one film anyway). But I do wonder how that will affect how much screentime Aunt May, MJ/Michelle, Ganke (no I'm not calling him Ned, he's Ganke), etc will have?

Maybe they get taken on a study abroad trip over summer. They had those at my high school, don't know how common it is. That way Ganke can come with, and Aunt May could even chaperone.

Maybe all of Peter’s peers go, too?

I suspect its gonna be a semester abroad sort of thing or it may be for another competition . Either way, I tend to think that his classmates will be with him and that its probably school related as opposed to Peter going on his own to Europe ala CACW.

I also like the idea of Peter having an adventure abroad for a change. We've had six films with Peter being stuck in Queens/NYC. It's a refreshing change of pace to put him in an unfamiliar surrounding and for him to potentially face off with a female villain/ anti hero.
