Basically from Sony's point of view it will be can they save Spider-Man themselves (with quality film makers)

Quality filmmakers is not the problem. Its Sonys creative control & them meddling & Sony execs ruining these movies. They need 2 be stripped of creative control pronto

I think this deal is more advanced than we might think. I don't think Marvel would be looking at certain actors for a new Peter/Spider-Man (or hammering out a storyline for a 2nd reboot) if they didn't think they could iron out a deal with Sony.

Garfield was great in ASM, but he just wasn't Peter Parker in ASM 2. He had all the nuances of an introvert with social anxiety down to a t, with the natural sounding stutter, the awkward nervous laughs, even the eye contact being either uncomfortably broken or overly fixed. It was a good modern take on what the Peter Parker character would be like today, someone who's not necessarily socially inept, but who's uncomfortable in social settings. However in ASM 2 he's far too bold, relaxed, well groomed, he's not even an everyday man.

I think Anton Yelchin would be a good replacement

I think I'm in the minority here, but I just don't think Spider-man should be given to Marvel studios with a new core cast and all that crap. Frankly, it's ********, and I feel really bad for Andrew Garfield who was near-perfect as Spider-man.

To me, it seems the best bet for Spidey is to clean house with the behind-the-scenes team for the most part, not the team that's in front of the cameras. Come up with a good ****ing script and focus on making a good ****ing movie. Let us see a Spider-man who will evolve and grow out of college. Do The Last Hunt w/ Kraven, make it really intense and charming, and also follow up on some of the story threads from the first couple films (mainly Norman still being alive). Release the film in 2017/2018 as was originally planned.

THEN, in the end credits...have a Marvel Studios stinger linking Spidey to that universe, and take it from there. Let him have some kind of role in Infinity War. Make a huge announcement out of it. Whatever. But please, not another person playing Spider-man already and don't hand off the rights in this way.

Why the hell would Marvel give Sony a stinger if they don't have creative control? That's silly. Sony's rep is in the toilet right now and not just with the Spidey films, something is in the works for a reason. Producers have been playing a game of pin the tail on the donkey for a decade now, it's a freakin' joke! So spare me the violins for the handsomely paid Garfield. His portrayal of Peter Parker didn't exactly light up the fan base. Nor Sony's apparently as they seemed to have let him go. Suck's for his supporters, but I guarantee he'll sleep better then most of them.

Everything you said could be done under the MS banner, and that difference alone will take the future prospects of this franchise out of the grimy, smelly bath water.

Come a months time Sony may indeed choose to go solo, at which point you can toast marshmellows over the burning corpse of the franchises' future.

If or when there's a solo flick for MCU Spider-Man, it won't be coming til at the very least 2018. The ASM series would be over for four years, so it's not like it's terribly abrupt or anything.

A best 'meh' at worst a comedy mess with ZERO chemistry between the leads.
I didn't by Thor's change in Thor 1, just like Two-Face, completely unearned.
I am a massive Thor fan (because of the Simonson run) and I don't think Marvel have done justice to the character at all. Thor and Loki are good characters in (IMHO) 'meh' movies.

I loved the Ang Lee version, which explored bottled up rage. Maybe the movie tried to be too clever for its own good but I loved it for that (Hulk Dogs aside).
Marvel get their hands on the franchise and I loved Norton as Banner but I love Norton in most things. Fans get their 'Hulk Smash' which was a cg MESS.
TIH (IMHO) a very 'meh' film. Movie does some things better than the Ang Lee version but it is hardly the jump in quality that Batman Begins is to B&R.

GREAT first act. Meh conclusion. A movie that is desperate to rush to the end to get Cap in the present. I pretty much checked out of the 3rd act not unlike the film makers.

HATE IM3 with a passion. I can't watch that movie without getting angry at them pissing on a character THEY THEMSELVES created in the context of the movie.
Imaging if they pulled that stunt with RAG in Batman Begins.

So to me (a Marvel fan) half of MS movies are 'meh'.

Don't get me wrong, I would be very excited to see Marvel's take on the character. I would be super excited to see Spider-Man link up with other heroes, one of my favourite comic runs is Marvel Team Up, I'm just saying Marvel isn't guaranteed to hit it out of the park. Studios don't make great movies, film makers do. Marvel has to choose the right Director and writers (just like Sony would) Marvel would have to let the film makers get on with it. Edger Wright left because he wanted to make a standalone movie and Marvel weren't having it. How is that hands off management?

Now that Garfield and Stone have left ASM I have no allegiance to that universe anymore so I am on board for a reboot. I want the best director and best writer for the new direction, and you know what, I don't care what studio makes it. If Fincher said 'I don't want deal with any of the continuity crap' then I would rather see a Fincher directed Sony movie and what evidence is there that Sony micro manage Fincher? Girl with Dragon tattoo and Social Network, yeah, Sony's meddling is all over those movies. Maybe the problem isn't Sony but the producers that Sony have hired to oversee the Spider-Man franchise.

I think MS is good but not the peak of cinema like some people carry on.

I think Sony are capable of letting the RIGHT director have autonomy providing the producers are good producers which Arad is not but he can be fired.

I want to see Spider-Man team ups.

Basically I want the definitive Spider-Man movie (which is currently SM2) and I don't care who provides that movie. I want a 'TDK' for Spider-Man, movie with an incredible villain, amazing action and a beginning middle and end without being bogged down with what came before or setting up what will come after (Ha! actually describing SM2). I also want the movie to have a visual spender like Skyfall or TDK.

I want Sony to get their act together but frankly I think the Marvel deal will happen, too many hurdles to jump over. We'll see if I'm wrong.
But if the deal doesn't happen it should be remembered that;
WB made Batman Forever and B&R before making Batman Begins.
Fox made X3 and Wolverine Origins before making X-Men FC.
All it takes is ONE good movie.

They need to hire an A list director at the top of his game, allow that director to bring his writing and cinematography team and basically sake the current producers of Spider-Man and let the director also produce the movie as well.

You're right on Thor 1, TDW, IM2 and IM3. I haven't seen TIH or Ang Lee's Hulk, so I can't say anything about that. However, I loved Cap 1 through and through, and I do think that while Marvel Studios is not perfect, the number of good to great films they've made outnumber the mediocre ones. So, while there's no guarantees, I think things will be looking up for Spidey if/when he joins the MCU.

I could say UHF is the greatest film ever, so it's undisputable because it's my opinion. What I'm refering to is the larger sample size that's available across the net! Not just an opinion. Nobody likes every film and no studio in history has a perfect record. My point is that Marvel is continually growing and evolving, their success at the box office gets bigger and bigger with each film in a franchise, their films (in general) are getting better... and most people like/love what they are doing and excited about the future. The numbers bear this out. The success and ever growing fanbase is, YES, indisputable. How's Sony doing? Please don't make me laugh. Spider-Man would be better off at Marvel.

Who is trying to discredit Marvel? I said all their movies aren't great and that you could just as easily get Thor 2 level quality or IM level quality.

I agree with you on that. I liked the ASM movies more than most people, but I just don't see Sony having a good plan for the character. The only MCU movies that I don't like are IM2, IM3 and TDW. I haven't seen TIH so I can't judge. Great avvy by the way, I LOVE My Bloody Valentine.

The Marvel deal is appealing to people who want the character to interact with other heroes and villains. Plus with the state that Sony is in right now with this mess, plus their lack of direction at the moment, it may be best for Spidey to make his home elsewhere.
