Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

From what Im reading, if their keeping the script that Smith was going to star in, it's not a remake

This choice is curious though. He at least has the edge.

Oldboy is awesome and part of what makes it is the setting and the ending, which is truly daring and shocking. There's no way squeaky clean Spielberg and Will Smith will follow that ending. This remake will be another Hollywood crapfest quick-buck travesty that tarnishes the legacy of a far superior foreign film. This movie has already been made and can't be made better. There is NO reason to remake it.

EDIT: Oh, Spike Lee is doing it now? Oh, that's much better. I bet now it will be some racial politics film about a black dude locked up for 15 years by "the man"...

:whatever:

Every remake isn't quick buck and it's not going to be a remake of the Korean movie, but an adaptation of the manga.

And so what if the US creates foreign remakes. Countries remake our movies and they have no problems doing that. I have no problem with the US remaking foreign movies, even if made a few years ago.

I want to see how Lee does this. My curiosity is piqued.

Didn't know that. An adaption of the manga (which I never read) appeals more than a remake of a classic.

Somewhere, Chan-wook Park is quietly judging the recent news. :o

Spike Lee probably has that darker and edgier street cred as is, so he might actually be cool with it.

When the Spielberg rumors started to hit, Park openly disapproved. He said it was unnecessary.

I do think Spike Lee is better equipped for the material than Spielberg, but I still hope Will Smith stays far away.

wonder who will they get for the lead you need a guy who can convincingly go kind of manic and crazy but also play a good guy

gary oldman should be cast the original actor reminded me of him anyways

Edward Norton and Spike Lee have worked well together before.

I don't how it'll be compared to Chan-wook's version but I got to admit, I'm quite curious to see Lee's take on the material.

Josh Brolin is Top Choice

Not sure what to think about this remake, it could turn out to be good but I guess only time can tell.

Brolin wasn't the first actor to come to mind, I thought it would be the obvious choice Denzel Washington. But we'll see if he joins this or not.

Why do fanboys assume that the character will be black just because Spike's directing it? Get the heads up out the behinds already.

lolol people forget spike lee made this

I didn't think like that. I assume it could be Washington because he is A- list actor (and I assume you need an a-list actor to attract the audience) and plus that he have worked with Lee before.

I don't know. But he managed to get Clint Eastwood to demand he shut his face because he was complaning about no black people in World War 2, or something. He also complained about the "magic negro" in "The Green Mile. A bunch of other crap. When I read or see anything about him, it's usually whiny nonesense.
