Splinter Cell: ConViction

I definitely agree with what you guys are saying, the last mission in Double Agent with Emil is just like that.

It's incredibly difficult, even on hard. You can sneak around, take one guy out, but then you're forced to shoot another and everyone is alerted to your presence after that one shot.

Baloney. There's no muzzle flash and all you hear is a small sound.

I tried for about an hour to figure out how to take those dudes down stealthily, and then I finally said "f*** it," climbed up the ladder, and picked them off as they came up after me.

Never thought of that one.

I probably would have been shot on sight while attempting that though, they have eyes like a hawk on hard mode.

I played it on normal and they still spotted me about 3/4ths of the way up the ladder, so you're probably right.

What bothered me most about DA was how glitchy it was.

I would be seen, even though I was making no noise and was in complete darkness.

I still, to this day, have nightmares about the Okhostk level.

Yeah, oddly enough, that was the hardest mission for me too. You'd think it'd be really hard to hear footsteps in the middle of a giant blizzard, but apparently you'd be dead wrong.

The opening of that level was a pain in the ass until you get to the tanker. Especially the camp. Jesus.

The Hotel level was my favorite from that game.

The hotel was a lot of fun. I got tired of hiding around that time and just started shooting people in the face. If someone discovered the body, I'd shoot them in the face, too.

But my favorite mission was definitely the last one. I loved being able to stalk the halls of the JBA base murdering all the bastards I had to work with for so long.

The Hotel, Shanghai I think, was probably the best level in the game.

I enjoyed Kinshasa too, even though it's sun drenched.

I kinda liked Iceland, but the boat level...was a total mess. I've ghosted that level, complely...taking everyone out silently...and still the bodies were discovered somehow. By who? I dunno, because I took EVERYONE out.

The cruise liner level was great too.

JBA levels...felt like a cop out. Because it was essentially the same level...with a little new area tacked on each time.

The final levels were great, I thought. Leading up to finding Emile, was good fun.

I gotta say too, I actually hated the gadget upgrades. It's taken me a good while, since the first Splinter Cell really, to master my lockpicking skills. I can probably pick a lock in a little over 10 seconds now. But, the lockpick upgrade took the fun out of picking locks.

And the enhanced Nightvision Goggles...sucked, in my opinon. I wish I could just take the upgrades off.

Yeah, the enhanced NVGs are terrible. I just fiddled with the brightness and contrast settings so I didn't need night vision anymore. All the enhanced NVG does is wash everything out and put a fish-eye lens filter over it, which is really annoying.

I didn't mind the JBA HQ levels because, although they were repetitive, they were fun and they made sense in the context of the story. What, are the JBA gonna move their entire operation after every mission? Not too sensible.

Other than the last JBA mission, my favorites were the Shanghai hotel (I did a dance with the chopper's search light on the outside of the building :)), the cruise ship, and the prison. Kinshasa was all right but a bit too chaotic at times. What's the point of avoiding alerts if you're in the middle of a war zone? Who's really gonna care that a guy's creeping about off in a corner while they're getting shot at? Iceland was forgettable and the supertanker in Ohkotska was just irritating.

New Splinter Cell To Run Roughly 12 Hours

Normal mode will take about 12 hours, realistic mode also included.

Splinter Cell: Conviction creative director Maxime Beland wants people to finish his game. Accordingly, it looks like Sam Fisher's latest adventure will be clocking in at around 12 hours.

"I want people to play my games and finish them," Beland recently told Official Xbox Magazine.

"We're going to ship with difficulty levels, at least a normal mode and realistic mode - like we did on Rainbow Six Vegas. And realistic is going to be really ****ing hard - you're going to need stealth, two bullets is going to kill you, the enemies are going to be super-lethal."

Normal mode, however, will be "for normal gamers, that are going to spend 12 hours playing our game and not 30 because they're dying all the time."
For those worried about getting their money's worth, Conviction will of course also feature a robust multiplayer mode. Should be plenty to keep fans busy when it arrives this October.

So...realistic mode sounds awesome to me. I love a challenge. So that's MY mode.

And this is the first date I've seen for the game. October.

12 hours isn't too bad, especially for a game nowadays.

Now give us some MP info!

I imagine that the 12 hours should be extended on the Realistic difficulty.

I want co-op too.

same here on the NVGs...I just fiddled with my contrast a bit and only needed the goggles to see trip lasers

Thought this was interesting, possible information on some pre-order bonuses and a possible Limited Edition over in the UK for Splinter Cell: ConViction. Maybe a sign for what we might get here in the U.S., of course if your a mate of ours from overseas then you might already know what you're getting: http://www.gamesasylum.com/2009/06/17/buy-one-tom-clancy-get-another-tom-clancy-free/

The jury is still out if the Xbox 360-exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction is going to be any good or not. With over two years of development behind it, it should be nothing short of brilliant. But then again, the amount of delays that it’s had is more than worrying. Even if it does turn out to be pap then Game’s rather nifty pre-order deal should soften the blow.

According to an advert in 360 Gamer magazine this month (the deal isn’t on Game’s website yet) when you pre-order you get a comic book, bonus DVD and - now this is the good bit - a code to download Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for free. Seeing that Xbox Originals cost something stupid like £10.60 to download that isn’t a bad freebie.

There will also be a limited edition version with a Sam Fisher figurine, that you’ll no doubt look at once then stick on your game shelf to collect dust.

I already have Chaos Theory on a disk and nothing else in that sounds enticing to me, so I'll get the regular version.

That realistic mode sounds sick. I loved it in Vegas. It's how games of this type should be played.

Gotta say, a free download of a past gen game...would be the best swag I think any game company can offer.

I've never played Chaos Theory, so I'd get that.

Realistic Mode sounds absolutely unappealing to me. I don't want to be a normal dude when I play spy games. I want to be one of the JB super-spies: James Bond or Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer.

And you still will be, but if you get shot you die, the way it should be in these games.

Yeah, that's not my idea of a super-spy. A super-spy is good enough to not get shot, which I am not, so the game allows me to take some bullets to compensate.

Yeah the game is looking awesome. A bit different than other splintercell games but looks good overall.
