Splinter Cell: ConViction

You lucky S.O.B

Altho, having that game in my hands and not allowed to play it, ouch.

How did you get it? You work at Gamestop or like outlet?

Yeah I locked them up and threw away the key to keep me from temptation.

It's a similar outlet.

Reading the IGN Review, im really disappointed that they say the single player campaign is only 5 hours long. Thats way too short. I dont know maybe they just ran through it for review purposes. I plan to play it on Realistic so maybe that'll add an hour or 2. I hope that co-op is as fun as it was in Chaos Theory and hopefully theyll have some DLC levels for the co-op the way they did with CT.

Well, he said that the single player campaign is 5 hours and with the co-op it's 8. So that's 3 hours of co-op. He also said that the single player campaign, the co-op campaign and the deniable ops missions (he mentioned this in the video review) will give you 15-20 hours of gameplay. The deniable ops can also be played solo, so that's 12-17 hours of single player game modes.

I think that's a good number. Of course I would have prefered a longer campaign, but it seems there's still enough content. He also mentioned that he couldn't wait to replay the campaign and that he's on his 3rd playthrough already. Sounds like the campaign (and the game in general) is fun.

I cant beleive this game is actually coming out

The fact that the story is only 5 hours is quite sad to hear. This game has been in development for years and they could only muster out a 5 hour story mode. I am really excited for the other modes but I mean c'mon the story mode is the meat and potatoes of this game and it's just as long as the MW2 story.

You know, even with the positive reviews, I can't get excited about this game like I used to. Maybe it was the demo but...

I see a lot of people mention this at other sites as well. It wasn't in development that long. They started over in 2008 and they weren't working on the single player campaign only. They worked on the co-op, deniable ops and other multiplayer modes. The single player campaign and deniable ops offer a lot of hours for someone who doesn't like co-op/multiplayer. It's just that the story is short.

Game Informer gave the game a 9/10 and Edge gave it a 8/10. An 8 from Edge is really a 9 for most other reviewers, for those that don't know. I'll have to check it out, but the 5 hour SP makes it a rental for me.

Yea for anyone whose just going into the game for the single player, 5 hours just isnt going to cut it. I think there will be enough there for someone like me, who loves co-op, and considering the co-op story fits with the main story i think that will work out fine. If the single player is 5-6 hours and the co-op is 3-4, then that gives me plenty of story. Plus those deniable ops are gonna be really fun. Cant wait to play the modes where you arent allowed to be spotted, thats gonna be intense.

What exactly is deniable co-ops? Was that something in the other games, because it doesn't sound familiar

No, its a new set of game modes you can play with a partner, or yourself.

Infiltration has you eliminating all enemies without being spotted

Hunter has you killing all enemies on the map

Last Stand has you defending an EMP bomb from waves of enemies

Face-Off has you going against enemies on the map AND a player controlled spy.

Also the PEC will work across these game modes allowing you to unlock various outfits and weapons.

Heres a video on the deniable ops:

Ah, I see. Well, I was planning to rent anyway, but a five hour SP does seem pretty short. I guess the co-op campaign and deniable ops thing will bolster it though, if I can find someone else to play with.

Anyway, for people who ordered the CE, there's some good and bad news for you:

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/splinter-cell-conviction-ce-drops-10-in-price-due-to-faulty-us/

Did you order the collector's edition of Splinter Cell: Conviction yet? A Ubisoft representative informed us late tonight that the official price of the CE will be dropping $10, from $79.99 to $69.99. The reasoning behind the price drop is the possibility of faulty USB drives, included with the package. The publisher recently noticed that some of the USB drives didn't work, and is offering a compensatory price drop before the game's official release on April 13th.

None of the other content included in the CE has been affected, such as the comic book, art book, and bonus DLC. However, the bonus content included on the USB drive may be inaccessible in some copies. The bonuses, which include art and a behind the scenes video, will be distributed in a new manner, to be announced on the Ubisoft site after the game's launch. The Ubisoft representative wanted to emphasize that the game is not affected in any way. Good thing, too -- we don't think we could handle yet another delay.

Considering most retailers do not require full payment of pre-orders, the new price should go into effect when you pick up your copy. Make sure you contact your retailer before the game's launch if your final price doesn't reflect this $10 discount.

yea i saw that, kind of odd. Ah well, at least they are dropping the price.

Oh and if ya need a co-op partner Tron Bonne, just let me know. Ill go through the co-op with ya.

I'll have to see if the price drop has taken affect when I get in my store today.

Thanks, but I don't have Live; I would take you up otherwise. You can play the co-op offline, right?

Yea, split screen and sys link. But im sure the game will come with a 48 hr trial for Live. I also have some extra ones if you are interested in playing online. Just let me know.

I never played Double Agent, is it worth playing quickly this weekend or not

I'd be in for one, if you can spare it. My new Gold card is going to come in a day or two after I get this...but yeah, the 5 hours is a letdown.

Maybe that's with playing the thing as Jack Bauer on easy? Instead of Ninja style on realistic? I dunno...maybe?

And I just know I'm going to get into an argument about the price change on the Collector's Edition on Tuesday, at gamestop.

WTF! Why does the hype suck!?

Also, can't believe this game is finally coming out.

As for thr 5 hr complaint, I'm hearing all the other modes are well worth the play. U shoudl get more enjoyment from this game other than just 5 hours.
