This thing is getting some pretty decent reviews, as they say the humor is pretty trippy and portions of it look like the creators were on acid.

They do say the marketing kinda plays up the live action portion, but it doesn't happen until like the climax. Mostly it's a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy picture with Spongebob and Plankton together.

I saw this a week ago. It's pretty decent, but it lacks the charm of the first movie. Antonio Banderas' role is crappy and not funny at all. It starts off well, but the story kind of goes off the rails pretty quickly.

Oh yeah, I agree. Feature-length stories don't really work with Spongebob.

It's just that the story of the first movie was still pretty grounded in the show's reality. This movie is all over the place and simply not as funny as it could have been overall.
