Square Enix's Avengers

11 Months to go, a bazillion studios attached, I hope the criticism doesn't fall on deaf ears.

Sigh... I miss the cancelled Avengers game even more now.

Damn, that looks a lot better! I don’t think I knew about this, or maybe forgot.

I'd settle for a New Mutants style indefinite delay.

I am super curious about gameplay impressions.

Thanks a lot for that. I can’t believe so much good work came to nothing. :csad: Someone should have bought it from them on the cheap and finished it.

The stunt double joke is scarily accurate. You could believe its the MCU cast in far shots.

My first reactions to seeing that E3 2016 reveal trailer for Spider-Man live when it dropped was some of the most overwhelming excitement I've felt rush over me as a fan, and I don't get that much anymore lol. My reaction to seeing the first few seconds of this live was pretty much "ew, really? That's what they're doing?"

I think the successful first showing for Spider-Man was that the whole thing was pretty much entirely gameplay (and a tiny bit of what we'd find out to be those quicktime sequences). It looked so good people weren't convinced it was actually gameplay. It looked like Spider-Man but the costume was a subtle tip that it was something new and different.

Then E3 2017 was entirely focused on a gameplay sequence in the story where you get a better sense of it and the Mr. Negative reveal was also another smart thing because he was a villain nobody knew outside of the comics adding to the freshness. Spidey had 3 great showings at E3 revealing more and more but always being clear showing gameplay and continually peeling back how this take would be something fresh in different ways.

This showing for Avengers wasn't nearly as strong. The 15 or so seconds of actual gameplay they showed looked like it was from tutorials and pretty on-rails, too.

That developer interview was dreadful. And no gameplay. I have very little faith in this atm.

With who? There are a lot of interviews going on right now. Lack of gameplay videos is a valid concern.

Captain America got the worst of it. The face is like a divorced dad in a bar, as I said. But what the hell with the costume? That midsection especially. It has no form! It makes him look chunky and outta shape.

Terrible.

Bill's doesn't seem worried that the game could bomb.

The main line up is very Avengers 2012 minus Hawkeye, so its not very exciting. Here's hoping they are just saving the rest in the upcoming months. 8 to 12 playable characters for a game like this (assuming it plays like Arkham/Spider-Man) would be ideal to me, but just having to play these 5 Avengers (in an Arkham/Spidey2018ish game) isn't bad either. I'm interested about the mission structure.

As for the costumes shown in the trailer, I didn't like Spidey2018 costume either. I'm just hoping there would be accessible skins early in the game.

Any word if its gonna be an open world or a linear game?

Yup, Hulk and and Iron Man will definetly be my main or at least from the starting team

Hawkeye could be introduced later in the story like Hank Pym

I think it's fair to criticize that there wasn't any gameplay footage, so it's questionable to me that less than a year from release that they don't have some sort of gameplay example.

Having said that, I love the in engine footage that was shown. I love the premise, I loved the character design, I love the fact that this is not a rehash of the MCU. These characters have existed for decades with different style story telling, some good some bad, but the world has really come to know the Avengers from the movies, so I think it's great to give young people an experience that is outside that, as most people don't really read the comics anymore.

Yes there's a lot that really leans on the movies, the character design is very MCU 'esque but enough differences to make it unique, except for perhaps Banner that was pretty much straight lifted from the MCU. Yes the team is the original MCU Avengers sans Hawkeye, but I liked the way it was presented.

I think the voice cast, from the ones I know is excellent. Nolan North is well known for his work on Assasin's Creed and Uncharted. It looks like a lot of thought and time when into the creation and story telling in this game. Will it work out? That remains to be seen, but I like what I've seen so far.

Yeah, there's plenty of red flags there. Not the least of it is that they don't seem to want to show it to the wider public.
I remember when they didn't want to show the Witcher 3 to people until they were ready to show it. The difference there though was it was years out. Not 11 months.

From what I'm hearing, what they aren't showing is what you need to be worried about. It sounds like the demos they have are from older builds. Which is a bad sign.

Having a look around the net, I think it's fairly safe to say that the overall consensus is disappointment.

This is a game that releases two months after the FFVII Remake. There really is no excuse for it looking the way it does and that we still don't know how it plays. People wanted to get hyped for the Avengers game, instead the majority of players seem to be wary of it. Crystal Dynamics completely and utterly failed to sell their game. Then again, do they even have a working game to sell?

Yeah, given the large amount of gameplay they showed off in the FF7 portion, it just kind of highlights that we didn't seen any gameplay from Avengers.

Cyberpunk comes out less then a month before, and they have already released like a 30 min gameplay video.
