Squirrel Girl IN DA HOUSE!! - Part 1

[Squirrel Girl]

Wolvie and SG's relationship, if it happened at all, would have to be rather recent. In the New Avengers I see her as being very early twenties, and assuming Wolvie knows to avoid minors that leaves only a couple years at most for this to have happened. Realistically if he let the age difference ever bother him he could never go out with anyone, but it is my eternal hope that nothing did happen between them when she was a minor. I would lose so much respect for him if he did. All in all though, not bad for someone who Iron Man once said wasn't in Wolverine's class.

The nanny idea is brilliant. I just hope, as Doreen does herself, that one day the Avengers will realize the powerhouse that is Squirrel Girl, and make her an official member of the team.

New Avengers 19 brings us another apearance of the bushy tailed Avenger which, combined with her other NA appearances, makes me seriously wonder where Bendis is going with Squirrel Girl. It's not really plot relevant but it's recent enough I'll put it in spoilers anyway.

Squirrel Girl hits on Daredevil. DAREDEVIL?! Seriously, where did that come from?

Potential thing with Wolverine, now she's hitting on Daredevil; I'm really not sure where Bendis is going with her. She's always been that cute, innocent, upbeat one, a throwback to the silver age before darkness and drama engulfed the comic world. She is still young, she is growing up and I can only imagine how much more awkward being half squirrel must make it, but still it seems kind of out of character.

There is nothing bad that I can say about the quality of Deodato's artwork with her, he produces some of the most amazing images of Doreen ever published.

Maybe she was just asking him out to thank him, but between the squirrel musk (really?), her heart pounding, and that look she gives him as she asks if he has a girlfriend, it doesn't sound like just a date.

Also, big what if: if they started dating would she die like all his other girlfriends, or is she strong enough to survive and break the curse?

Though that does bring me to another point, is she no longer the powerhouse she used to be? Yes, she was good enough to take down several giant nazi robots, but we saw her rather seriously injured for the first time (she walked away from thanos and fin fang foom without a scratch). Hopefully this is her being taken a bit more seriously, it's nice to see her struggle a bit, it makes her seem more real. Imediatly after that, however, she seems to have lost any confidence and her new strategy is to hold the baby and hide/cry. Being rescued by Daredevil in the mansion is the closest she has come to facing defeat since the death of Monkey Joe (speaking of which, what ever happened to Tippy Toe?) and Annual saw her hiding and crying while the Avengers were under attack. Has the confident and unshakable Squirrel Girl been taken down? Will she ever rise again to her former glory?

Hmm, I didn't read the issue, but I think it's a bit of puppy love with Daredevil. Things have been crazy with Speedball in the past, and maybe she was just a bit taken with Matt. While I found the Wolvie match up odd if not a bit humorous, I don't think Matt would be the worst option, though I don't think it'll go anywhere but a cute one sided crush.

I think that this will be an evolution from a charming joke-ish character to a light hearted but more realistically anchored character. I think this also comes with her being seen more regularly. She's evolving and with it comes depth and danger and doom! Heh, she wont be invincible, but I really hope they don't make her timid and terrified. I can see her being more cautious and not as unflappable, but I DON'T want to see her have a 180 with her personality.

Marvel has dragged me back by adding Squirrel Girl to the New Avengers book and CHANGING the X-men to where I can now tolerate parts of them,.. I'll be changing my sig now that a certain someone is trying out for the X-men team,...

I never wanted her invincible. I did want that "goodness" to survive in an age where the Majority of women depicted in comics - Well I've whined about that in Detail - SG was always a breath of fresh air.

While I KNOW Daredevil has enhanced senses,.. I have to say he was out of character to comment on her scent and the Babies,..

Unless Bendis is going somewhere with this.

With the dawn of a new year upon us, there are rumors floating around about the future of the Arboreal Avenger, particularly with the upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men. As the rumor goes, she becomes (if only for a while) the host of the all powerful phoenix entity
