Xbox Starfield

My biggest concern with this game thus is the writing and quest design, something Bethesda has consistently half-assed since Oblivion.
It's because they lost Michael Kirkbride after Morrowind. Dude was vital to the character of the Elder Scrolls writing. All of the cool metaphysical stuff got replaced with generic fantasy tropes.

I figured they lost a key creative at some point. Cyrodiil in Oblivion doesn't even resemble how it's described in Morrowind. I'm wondering how their gonna shoehorn HP Lovecraft into this the way they do Fallout.

General:Michael Kirkbride - The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP)
This wiki has a pretty enlightening summary of Kirkbride's contributions to TES lore and you really get a sense of how they lost their spark when he left. He did early work on Skyrim, which is why the announcement trailer, eludes to a much more interesting story than we got in the final game.

Just finished paying off my preorder today so I’m ready.

Anything trying to get in the way of this for me is about to get blasted.

I’m still super busy and it’s been a while since I took the time to sit down for a long single player game but I can’t wait. Need to make an exception for this and BG3.

I saw that guy had worked on Immortals of Aveum that I planned on checking out at some point. Can only be good for it.

A little bit less than 24 hours until reviews and early access.

And some outlets didn't get their review code or got it late...

Really hoping for good results. A mainline single-player Bethesda RPG doesn’t come around too often these days so I hope it hits the mark. And a wholly new franchise from them is such a rare thing that it may never happen again!

Got my early access ready for tomorrow evening. I love a good Bethesda game to dig into.

What time can we expect metacritic to update?

87 on OpenCritic (93% recommended).

7/10 from IGN and Gamespot is, uh, quite surprising. :hehe:

I'm not surprised, it's the minimum they can get away with giving it. Would love to compare it against other games they gave 7/10.

Another L for X-Box. So much for this being the "game of the generation".

I have quite literally been saying this since they took over the Fallout IP.

Still at 87 after 51 reviews. 5 of those are mixed. I’d imagine they’re a bit disappointed with that, probably wanted to finish above 90.

Excited to see that this is getting good reviews can’t wait to play next week IGN has had some questionable reviews in the past I don’t rely on them too much anymore

I've been hearing the gunplay is better than its ever been in a Bethesda release and the side content is great but the main quest is a slog. I've got it installed through gamepass on pc so I'll be playing it release day. I expected the rpg to be shallow because they've been dumbing their games down since Oblivion but I'm still excited to give it a go.

The main quest in Skyrim was nothing to write home about either. Exploration in a huge living world has become the main strength over narrative quality IMO.

Yeah, gunplay looks good - I think iD helped on it.

Skyrim isn't really a "living world" and their overall level design is really bad. The funny thing about Skyrim and Fallout 4 is they're the first Bethesda games to have proper level designers and both games are worse off for it. It's arguably an improvement over Fallout 3 but they're still slogs to get through. BGSs trademark bandaid level scaling also hinders exploration as well.
