I agree that Warlock feels wrong.
And yes, Mar-Vel and Quasar are Kree and Terran, but it's their powers that could be unknown to the Nova Corps.
I'm just not a fan of the whole Starhawk story and feel there are plenty of other characters that could come into play in the next GotG movie.
Truthfully, my main pick currently is Starfox. There are just so many reasons why this one makes sense, including:
- The name. Starfox and then mom calling Peter Starlord. Almost derivitive.
- Being Thanos' brother, it seems like he could be applicable in the coming stories.
- Gamora's comment of "pelvic sorcery". Be honest, that was so forced it wasn't funny. Add in the fact that Gamora, having been raised by Thanos, could be in a position to know about Starlord's lineage.
- In the comics it was Starfox who teamed with the Avengers to take Thanos down.
- He is known for wandering space searching for romance and adventure.
- As an Eternal he has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy, flight and pleasure stimulation. Some of these seem to align with the concept of being an "angel" and being "pure energy".
The main con of Starfox being Starlord's pop is the statement that the Nova Corps do not know the pysiology of Starlord's father, and one would assume that they would be more than aware of Thanos' psyiology, and thus Starfox's.
Now, focusing on the fact that Nova did not know Peter's father's psyiology, and the statements that were made, one other very likely scenerio is that the Beyonder is actually Starlord's father. Hear me out on this one...
The Beyonder
The Beyonder is one of the most powerful beings of the Marvel universe. He was an Inhuman of Attilan and a mutant. Exposure of his mutant genes to something called the Terrigen Mists, a mutation causing vapor, had created an unprecedented reaction, bestowing upon him seemingly godlike abilities and granted him amazing power and knowledge beyond all of the other Inhumans. It also erased him from the other Inhumans' memories, including their leader Blackbolt.
He ended up getting pulled to Earth and their observed the Earthlings, discovering that the driving force of sentience is desire, something previously unknown to him.
To investigate the nature of desire the Beyonder caused the Secret Wars, a story that many, including myself, has always felt would make a great movie. As most of you know he took many of Earth's super-powered heroes, and many of their villians, and placed them on Battleworld, a planet he created for his experiment.
The drawback for Marvel as far as a movie of this nature is that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four were a big part of the story and are owned by Fox. Almost seems like a reason for Marvel to start making changes to their comics in order to try to kill the draw to the Fox movies. Changes such as canceling a certain comic and no longer using certain characters in their promos.
Anyway, if you look at the Secret Wars story I think you'll agree that they could still do it since the Avengers were the main piece of the story. Here are the characters still available, that were part of the original story:
Hulk
Captain America
Captain Marvel
Hawkeye
Ironman (it was actually Ironman 2 - Jim Rhodes)
She-Hulk (you know she'll be coming into things soon)
Spiderwoman (hmm...)
Thing
Thor
Wasp
And the villains were:
Absorbing Man
Enchantress
Kang the Conquerer
Klaw
Molecule Man
Titania
Ultron
Volcana
The Wrecking Crew
And the Beyonder, of course.
Unfortunately, a main piece of the story was Magneto and Doctor Doom, characters that Marvel can't use currently. I would imagine they can't use Galactus either. And spiderman is off limits...
But the story could still be done, I believe...
Anyway, months after the Secret Wars, the Beyonder arrived on Earth to continue his study of humanity and of desire. He had never possessed a true form of his own before, but now he created for himself a physical form in order that he could walk amongst humanity and fulfill his own desire for experience in this world.
I could so easily see the Beyonder's story being told in how he went to Earth and wanted to experience desire (and love - sure, throw that in). Gave himself a physical form and met and "fell in love with" Peter's mom. They conceived Peter (afterall, being omnipotent, he could do anything) and he went off in search of something else.
The Beyonder's powers are crazy. They include:
- The general ability to manipulate reality
- Vast psionic abilities
- Can easily change states of matter
- Superhuman strength of such an extent that it is potentially incalculable
- Regenerate damage done to his body by simply willing it repaired
- His powers are
vaguely unlimited, and have no clearly defined extent
- Teleportation
- Flight
- The ability to choose his own physical resistances and attributes
- The ability to move others from one place to another via teleportation
- He can make or destroy multiverse with his thoughts.
Now here are the reasons why I could see this one being the case:
1. The Beyonder is an interesting character that could play into some pretty interesting stories
2. Definitely a being that the Nova Corps would not know of
3. The idea of an omnipotent being wanting to experience desire (and love), thus creating Peter Quill, would be interesting.
4. The Beyonder's powers could definitely fit the whole "pure energy" and "angel" statements.
The main evidence against this idea is the fact that Yondu was sent to get Peter, and I would imagine that an omnipotent being wouldn't require Yondu, or anyone for that matter, to run an errand for him.
I give the Beyonder as Peter's pops a 60% statistic. Still feeling strong about Starfox, or Mar-Vel, Quasar or Nova...
