State your opinion a character - Part 1

I'm with Most, liked the Jenkins Mini, thought the character had potential for some cool stories.

There were some great Sentry stories that could have been done, but sadly, these are somewhat ruined now.

Bendis deconstructed Sentry..he took a fairly interesting character, and changed him into a monster who can not be rooted for...so he did really RUIN the character in the truest sense.

I wouldnt write Sentry off the books just yet though.

Problem is, after what Bendis made him into, the character can't really be redeemed now. So all that potential is truly gone.

The Void could maybe be used as a cosmic level threat some time down the line though I guess..

Good for his first mini. Bad for everything else. I kind of like that he represented the f***ed up placeholder for Thor while the Avengers were in ruins, though.

Agreed. I have the trade of that first Sentry miniseries and it was really cool. Had that Jae Lee artwork in it and everything. After that everytime I saw the character it was just a big mess and just kind of wanted to see the character put out of its misery. There was definitely some potential there but I suppose there is always the future because anything can happen in comics. :oldrazz:

Yeah.

Loved his original mini, then Bendis got his grubby hands on him and that was all she wrote.

Why? Thor already took care of that. :thor:

I beg to differ. In the Siege event Sentry basically laughed at Thor's attempts to hurt him. Thor didn't really make a dent until Sentry's Bob personality emerged and begged him to kill him. According to Bendis who wrote the event it was basically Sentry committing suicide.

Not that I think that any of that was any good, but it's the way it happened in the issue. According to on panel stuff Thor > Sentry power level wise.

The original Sentry mini is one of my favorite comic stories ever. I even liked Sentry in New Avengers until around issue 16 or so. It's about then that I thought it all started going to crap. Particularly Bendis doing all kinds of ridiculous junk like implying the Void was the angel of death from the Bible and simultaneously Sentry was also basically like the molecule man. I could go on and on but, yeah, it was mostly terrible.

There was some good uses of Sentry in Dark Reign though. His cameos in Moon Knight, Punisher and Agents of Atlas were all very enjoyable.

Okay, time for a new one. What's your opinion of....

Namor

Namor rocks! comic's original bad boy! as a kid i thought Aquaman came 1st and was a totaly rip of him and didnt like him ,but then i read "the Invaders" and that dude got to be freaking cool! loved him when he had his own book and his company and came to work in a Armani suit and no shoes! thats style baby! A really complex character who want to destroy the surface world, yet has plenty of ties to it. it's true you only hurt the stuff you love! Forget Wolverine, Cyke and jean. the real triangle is between him, Sue and Reed. It's like righhhttt there. You just know she wants some "Puffer Fish!" I dig the black with yellow wings. i saw it as a kid and loved it! Dug the Illuminati stuff like" why did you fools call me? i was busy watching the little mermaid! You never know if he will save or kick your ass!Subby rocks like Jacques Cousteau."Dis is the sea teeming with life"..

Love him with the Defenders. Now there's a team book Whedon needs to write. Namor is the perfect Jayne archetype. What a dick! But he's our dick.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

I like Namor.

Unrepentant *****e bag. Openly lusts after another man's wife. Bangs his hot cousin on occasion. Bad....Ass.

But, you know, he's no Aquaman. :o

i love Namor. his comics from the 60s and 70s are some of my favorite ever.

I like Namor when they're not trying to sell this silly idea that he's a mutant. What the hell is the guy doing with the X-Men? It's ridiculous. :o

I like the idea of him, but I have to admit that I haven't read too much of him. What is the definitive reading for him?

Most of what I've read with Namor was some of the original Fantastic Four stuff, where his arrogance really put me off him. Is there any stuff that's really good with him in it?

Never really got into Namor too much. Certainly books I've read he's guest appeared in and it really depended on the writer. Recently I kind of warmed up to the character in the Hickman run on Fantastic Four. That one scene with him and Susan in Atlantis where he was hitting on her pretty bad and she basically told him to go screw himself and it just turned him on even more. That was some great stuff. Other than that I'm just not a big Namor fan.

He had a mini a few years ago that tied into Civil War. That was pretty good.

But honestly, if you're not in to his arrogance then you probably wont like anything he's in. Guys a *****e. That's just who he is.

i soooo agree with this. That &^%$# was hella stupid!! not only did you have a city of mutants lving under the street, but everybody and their mom had to start being a mutant like Subby! get outta here with that!
