no it ain't. i was gonna explain it but I saw enough other posters already didLaid off is a nice way to say fired
Yes it is
What games are those?
When you've got a family and a mortgage the possibility of getting fired is a huge deal! These guys aren't yet that powerful enough individually or they would be starting their own company and taking all the risks and getting all the rewards. If Mass Effect fails EA will have to cover the loss and with that removal of risk for Bioware comes the right of the parent company to make demands, even if it isn't in the interests of gamers. Even the guys who want to do good by gamers, they care about their own families and financial security more!
are you talking about destiny? The game felt like they took the worst parts of MMOs and threw it on a mediocre shooter. I never felt invested in the world or the characters which sucks because the world is cool. I'm far more interested in tales of the borderlands over anything gearbox does with the series.
Uh, Microsoft just laid off 18,000 people. I don't know many adults who would gamble with their family's livelihood for the well being of gamers. It's fine to start doing that kind of thing AFTER you're financially secure. It's a team of 100+ people ain't it? If they all collectively say the same **** to their boss I doubt he'd have the balls to ****in fire 'em all, especially when he needs them, you know. They got the power
I've been following reviewtechusa a lot lately, apparently the Ps3 was supposed to ship without a GPU, and naughtydog warned Sony and said you HAVE to put a GPU in it. and sony listened.
there's more to these things than what we hear about, man.Uh, Microsoft just laid off 18,000 people. I don't know many adults who would gamble with their family's livelihood for the well being of gamers. It's fine to start doing that kind of thing AFTER you're financially secure.
More to what? Announced corporate layoffs or people putting art above their own livelihood?there's more to these things than what we hear about, man.
are we talking about layoffs or developers actually giving a voice for themselves and collectively telling their publishers that they NEED more time to perfect their product?More to what? Announced corporate layoffs or people putting art above their own livelihood?
Delays cost a LOT of money! Imagine the costs of running the whole Mass Effect operation for what an extra 6 months? And it's fine if these guys want to perfect their product by taking taking longer but are they all prepared to work for free during that time and contribute towards the office rental, heating, lighting, computer equipment, etc?are we talking about layoffs or developers actually giving a voice for themselves and collectively telling their publishers that they NEED more time to perfect their product?
This and that there's also investors that want a return on their investment. All these publicly traded companies have to answer to that. Its a big issue if they cant deliver numbers by the end of the fiscal period, especially if a certain big game is budgeted for thatDelays cost a LOT of money! Plus for e.g. Destiny made $500m in a few days already. If they had delayed that by 6 months then that's the interest on $500m gone plus the risks involved in not having that cash-flow at the expected time. Delays make cash flows unpredictable and make it much harder to deal with expenses and to raise cheap finance (borrow) for future projects. They could easily make smaller firms bankrupt with everyone losing their jobs. At a company the size of EA's it might just mean a contained number of layoffs and cost cutting here and there. The money has to come from somewhere.
For me the gamer I agree with you...I'd prefer if every game was delayed until it was absolutely perfect. But the evil corporations are the ones who have to pay out of their own pocket to fund these fantasies and the extra dev time and have to deal with the opportunity cost of that team being paid and not working on something else, and when the big corp loses money people lose jobs.
wasn't GT5 supposed to be a launch title for Ps3? and it came out 4 years later?Delays cost a LOT of money! Imagine the costs of running the whole Mass Effect operation for what an extra 6 months? are you talking about destiny?
I suppose my statement could apply to Destiny as well.
there were a few games being discussed on that page so which one was it exactly you were talking about? borderlands?
The game felt like they took the worst parts of MMOs and threw it on a mediocre shooter. I never felt invested in the world or the characters which sucks because the world is cool. I'm far more interested in tales of the borderlands over anything gearbox does with the series.
Games will still get delayed for various reasons but it will normally be the big cheeses making the decisions rather than some kind of protest movement by employees, and once production has started those delays will cost a lot of money every time. It's different in the planning phase before resources have been committed and they can change dates then without penalty.wasn't GT5 supposed to be a launch title for Ps3? and it came out 4 years later?
I don't know how credible the indoctrination documentary was, but the narrator claimed that bioware was time pressed for Me3 because EA was forcing them to release at the specified time. again though, man... we will truly never know the ins and outs of what goes on in this business. at least not in the detail we are discussing, you know. still, I understand it, why it has to happen, but I don't LIKE it, you know
No. GT4 came out in 2005. Sony never said Polyphony would be able to release, its sequel the following year. Are you talking about GT HD Concept? Because that did launch in Japan and NA a month after the PS3 did. That title was announced at TGS 2006 for a Dec release. No delay involvedwasn't GT5 supposed to be a launch title for Ps3? and it came out 4 years later?

I can see why, I hear it's substantially worse than Borderlands.I must confess, I too thought you were talking about Destiny.
that may be true but if there is something going on during the development process that is bothering the developers and they're feeling rushed I think they'd be able to do something about it. but yeah, publishers are the ones getting the say. they're funding the projects too aren't they?Games will still get delayed for various reasons but it will normally be the big cheeses making the decisions rather than some kind of protest movement by employees, and once production has started those delays will cost a lot of money every time. We certainly won't know all the ins and outs and what goes on behind the scenes like you say and I definitely don't like it either. There are enough good games to keep me busy that I'd rather wait until developers perfect their products and I get to play it exactly as they intended but unfortunately it can't always happen.
to my memory GT5 was indeed supposed to be a launch title man. but I ain't gonna keep arguing with you about this. it's not a big dealNo. GT4 came out in 2005. i think it is because destiny is a newer and more popular game and the of your post fits perfectly in the context of gameplay in destinyI can see why, I hear it's substantially worse than Borderlands.
