Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 1

It makes sense to do this movie in that fashion. People that have read the series or currently reading it know how meta or fourth wall-ish it is. It's an ongoing thing.

Just wait until Lud.

They're taking about it now.....

Any guesses on what Roland was shooting at there? A todash creature...one of the wasteland mutants...?

I hope we get to see a few of the creatures from Roland's world. The mutants, the lobstrostities, the Billy Bumbler.

Yeah I'm kind of excited about the Slow Mutants for this one. I don't know if we will see anything from the other books like the lobster monsters from The Drawing of Three but maybe.

“Dad-a-chum? Dum-a-chum? Ded-a-chek? Did-a-chick?”

I'm most interested in seeing how they shoot the taheen. Those seem hard to translate into live action. I thought the goathead priest Joker lackey looked close enough to one.

edit - which versions of the novels are you reading, Joker? I'd recommend looking for the ones with the Steven Stone covers. They've got some great artwork in them.

Which one are those? I bought mine long ago. The new bookset looks interesting.

As for the monsters I don't think there will be as many in this one, and I can understand that. This first film has a lower budget, and if it is a success that will lead to a bigger budget.

EDIT: Those are awesome covers.

I'm not sure which editions I have, but the covers look like this;

Yeah, the only familiar ones I see in the trailer are what look to be a couple of can-toi low men tracking Jake. Do you know if we're getting any of the grandfathers, or Nurses of Eluria?

That big red vortex - is it our Crimson King, or a beamquake do you think?

I'm not sure on the nurses.

With the red vortex I think it could be either. I wonder how far they want to set up the Crimson King in this one. I'm leaning towards a beam-quake because they may try to explain what the tower is and what it does, and what's happening to it.

Okay, I just saw the leaked trailer. Not really getting the "Underworld" vibe from it. Doesn't look quite how I envisioned it but doesn't look bad either. I especially appreciated hearing Roland's oath at the end.

Loved the oath at the end. I don't know if anything will be able to capture each of our views of the series. It's unique in many ways. But I still liked what I saw, can't wait to see more.

"I've got guns, I have the best guns, to be honest. Let me tell ya, when I climb the tower, you're all gonna have guns, it's gonna be so great. We're gonna restore law and order and no one's ever gonna take your guns like SHE wants to."

Can't wait for the domestic trailer (finished) in..what 9 days?

Yeah. I have a feeling the trailer will look a lot better when it's not blurry and has finished effects, haha.

That and the one we saw was the "International Trailer" if the watermark was to be believed. So we may be getting another cut.

You know it may be the Crimson King.

I figured they would hold of on showing him, maybe they still will. But I forgot Mr. McConaughey posted this picture on Instagram a while back.

I'm sure I saw the eye sigul on one of the EW pics of the Dixie Pig.

I remember someone saying those drug store things in The Mist were lobstrosities.

Wasn't there a poster of the Gunslinger at the beginning of The Mist?

Yes. Roland in front of the door, set against a field of roses with the Tower in the backdrop. I'd love to have a copy for my apartment.

edit

Joker - before you read Wolves of the Calla, I suggest picking up Salem's Lot. The middle half of Wolves spoils the end of SL and is kind of a sequel to SL. Insomnia is also worth a read before you move on to Song of Susannah, as is Black House.

I've read Salems' Lot many times. Its the first Stephen King book I ever read. Love it. One of my favs. But thanks for the heads up anyway

I just read Insomnia about 5 months ago.

Though, you shouldn't read Black House without reading The Talisman.

So... What's the consensus opinion from the long time fans of what they've seen so far? I only ever read the first book and as it didn't grab me I never went any further.
