Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 2

So, the film is a direct sequel to the books, for definite, rather than a reinterpretation.

Um... this rather raises a question. Will they deal with Roland's change of skin colour? Or just ignore it? The latter is probably for the best, I guess, and non book readers won't know. It'll be a bit strange for those of us familiar with the books though...

Also, this thing is six weeks away, and no more trailers or promo?

Any minute now, Amy Pascal is going to announce that Roland and the Man in Black are now part of Sony's Expanded Spider-Man Universe and will appear in the 2019 epic crossover film, Spider-Tet.

They'll probably just ignore the race change. Addressing it would be too awkward.

"Spider-tet, Spider-tet, they'll protect the beams, don't you fret,"
"Dixie Pig, Vacant lot, does Stephen King care? Probably not..."

That makes this a little easier to take. But an adaptation of the books still would have much better. And this still doesn't look very good.

I want them to get their trilogy made. I also want HBO or Netflix to pick up the rights afterwards and adapt the books proper.

If the trailer is indicative of the movie's quality, I don't want a trilogy of this.

As long as Elba gets shirtless, I'm fine.

I'm Eddie on the beach when it comes to the source material.

IF there were a second and third, I don't know what areas of Mid-World are left for them to explore, if they stick to the map from the books. The trailer seems to show off Empathica (snowy place with the Man in Black standing in the doorway), Algul Siento/Devar Toi (place where those goons in black are swarming with guns) and the Dixie Pig...plus that Manni village could easily be somewhere in the Callas.

How reprehensible awful is this?

If the quality of the movie is in any way represented by these posters, then this film is going to be an utter turd.

'Their war is coming to our world'???? What? What the hell does that have to do with the dark tower? What an awful strap line. Has less than nothing to do with the actual story.

And why does the tower look like something from LOTR?

I've seen way worse looking posters. The problem with the tagline is it's ripping off the Transformers tagline from ten years ago.

I get extremely hesitant about any film that has more than two credited screenwriters. Once you hit three or more, ugh.

How about a zany comedy where the Man in Black joins the Men in Black.

Most films have more than one screenwriter. Here is a list of some good films that have more than one writer:

Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The Empire Strikes Back
No Country for Old Men
Fargo
Goodfellas
Gladiator
The Winter Soldier
Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Force Awakes
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Mad Max Fury Road
Casablanca
Citizen Kane
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the River Kwai
Apocalypse Now
The Dark Knight Trilogy
Iron Man
Iron Man 3
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Dawn of the Plane of the Apes

The list goes on and on...and on. I doubt that Dark Tower will rank among the best or even the good films, but I doubt the number of screenwriters is a contributing factor in its awfulness.

Brilliant!

Also, I seriously can't believe the movie posters for the goddamn Dark Tower are ripping off TRANSFORMERS with their tagline. F*** this movie. It's going to be garbage and Sony knows it.

Indeed they do, many of which are quite good. Good thing I was talking about films that have more than two, eh?:cwink:

Nine of the films I listed have more than two screenwriters.:cwink:

And Idk how you feel about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but eight of the current MCU films have 3 or more screenwriters.

There is multiple screenwriters and then there are multiple screenwriters. Like the difference between Toy Story/The Force Awakens and Power Rangers.

"The sun is setting on this world. Forever." - Auntie Talitha, The Waste Lands

There's your tagline.

How about "See the turtle of enormous girth, on his shell he holds the earth. If you want to run and play, come along the beam today." ............ if they really wanted to screw with everyone's minds :D

Nice

Obviously 'Go then, there are other worlds than these' would be good, but most people would be confused by it, I guess.

Or of course it should bloody well be 'The Man In Black Fled Across The Desert, And The Gunslinger Followed'.

Even something like 'To save the universe, he must protect the tower' or some such. At least that would actually be about the story. Instead they chose a strap line that has nothing to do with it. There is no war, and they aren't bringing anything to our world. It's so stupid :cmad:

Another thing that concerns me about this film... I've started watching this movie called "The Take" with Idris Elba and Richard Madden. It's pretty good, but did Elba forget how to do an American accent after The Wire ended? He sounds really strange in that movie and his accent sounds a little wonky here too.

In those low budget jobs the emphasis is on getting shots in the can as fast as possible, so less attention is generally made to the detail - and things like accent drops get picked up. Idris can do a very good US accent (as evidenced in The Wire) but in a film that isn't all about the finer details? I can understand why it might not sound so good. And let's not forget that Dark Tower has been made on the cheap as well...

Well, that's true, but Richard Madden and Kelly Reilly were also playing Americans in that movie and their accents sounded fine.

Anyway, yeah, the low budget for this movie concerns me. As does... pretty much everything else I've seen from it. Ugh.
