Well, I'd say the types of people who would be offended by smoking in West Side Story pretty much overlap with the type of people inclined to write "strongly worded letters".

Besides Disney now owning 40% of the film industry, this was one of my biggest concerns for anything they didn't deem "franchise worthy". It'll only be a matter of time before Fox Searchlight will be completely gone.
