Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist thread

I got the first five episodes for preview purposes.

I'm really digging the show so far.

What I didn't understand earlier, the show is a period piece. The main Ryu/Ken story is set in 1987, same year as the first Street Fighter game.

It's almost like it's mimicking the timeline of the original games.

Wow, that's good to hear. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't know it would be a period piece.

Now that sounds awesome! It already seems to be more of a consistent effort than MK Legacy. Definitely excited now

I herd some samples fro the SFAFscorevia their website yesterday I am getting a copy of that soundtrack ASAP

Would anyone be interested in seeing movie based on the first World Warrior's tournament in the vein of Bloodsport?

Awesome because anytime I think of Sagat being the villain of the movie/tournament it makes me think of Chong Li from Bloodsport.

Basically I can see Sagat being built up in a similar light throughout the film and Ryu's story with Gouken being like Frank Dux and Senzo Tanaka..

When I spoke with Joey Ansah, he says they thought about this for the story originally. They opted to do the Ryu/Ken/Gouken/Akuma story instead.

Which is interesting because if they wanted even with that, due to the groundwork set by this series, they can organically build the Sagat/Ryu thing up as well as building up Akuma for the SF Alpha stuff later down the line.

Sagat holds the first tournament, right? But Bison existed before the first tournament in the Alpha series? I assume Bison was recovering from his defeat?

The Alpha tournament is set inbetween 1 and 2. This is actually why Sagat temporarily joined Shadaloo because Bison convinced him he'd get his revenge on Ryu.

If they introduce Sagat, I hope they keep him somewhat honorable. He doesn't care about Shadaloo's cause. All he wants is a rematch with Ryu. I think at one point in the comics he actually beat Ryu, but didn't acknowledge it. Because Ryu didn't have his head in the game, and wasn't as good as he should have been. I think Ryu might have struggled with the dark hado at the time.

Thanks! I forgot that Alpha took place after the 1.

In the Alpha games, in certain endings, I remember Sagat being honourable after he defeats Ryu. It's kinda like the way you describe it, I think.

A Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist review:

The cast is very small, with 10 characters total including older and younger versions of Gouken and Akuma. The story moves at a steady pace and is easy to follow due to the smaller cast. New characters include Ken's Father, Mr. Masters; Gouken and Akuma's sensei, Senzo; and Sayaka, Senzo's niece and the sole female in a house full of male warriors.

While the story is pretty much by the books, I would go as far to say that it's better than most of the other Western Street Fighter media, such as the two movies. I was surprised to see the number of nods and community references to the series in the show and how faithful the costumes were without seeming over the top. From what I saw (the first 9 episodes), the plot was pretty much how I would have expected these character to get their start, but everything was well made and I'm anxious to watch the conclusion of the series.

Assassin's Fist is a pretty versatile piece of work and is set to be released in a number of formats, such as a 12 part web series, a 6 part mini-series to be aired on TV, and as a movie to be aired on TV and uncut for home video. This approach to the series from day one is pretty interesting, giving fans a multitude of ways to watch the show both free and paid.

The first of these formats, the web series, is going to be launched on Friday May 23rd exclusively on Machinima, so fans won’t have to wait too long to check out the series for themselves.
