Dad Bites Off Guy's Ear at Bowling Alley Over a Spilled Drink

A 4o-year-old father was arrested by police last Friday on a felony maiming charge after he allegedly bit the ear off a man he got in an argument with at the Lanes at Coffee Creek bowling alley in Owasso, Okla. Doctors were apparently unable to reattach the ear.

The fight allegedly broke out Aug. 31 at the bowling alley, where Desiree Lyons and her husband Chris were bowling with their daughter. Desiree apparently spilled a drink on their shared table with a group of seven girls. Upset over the spilled drink, and reportedly after shouting at the Lyons family, the girls left the bowling alley vowing to return "with their boyfriends."

According to court documents obtained by the Smoking Gun, they returned with Thomas Foster, apparently the father of one of the girls. A shoving match turned into a fistfight, and that's when Foster allegedly bit the ear off of Chris Lyons. Police tried to arrest Foster after the brawl, but apparently "were unable to locate him." They finally arrested him on an outstanding warrant, months later, when police pulled him over last Friday for speeding.

Foster is a convicted felon who previously served time for shooting with intent to kill and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; he was released from jail after posting bail Saturday. Lyons will reportedly have to undergo skin grafting and plastic surgery to repair the damage to his ear.[/QUOTE

Frat Bro Tries to Extinguish Raging Electrical Fire by Pissing On It

Say what you will about fraternities (there is a lot you could say), but never say they don't teach valuable emergency preparedness skills, like pissing on things.

A heater started an electrical fire last night in the Kappa Alpha attic at the University of Houston, and even a trash can full of bathroom water couldn't stop it. So one brave brother sprung into action and whipped out his hose. Surprisingly, his urine was unable to quell the flames, which were later extinguished by professional firefighters.

"We saw, like, a fire in the attic and stuff and like smoke was coming out. We were just like, 'What are we supposed to do with this fire?' and we all just took off," first reponder (urine division) Dylan Koops told KHOU, "I pissed on it, but nothing was working."

No one was hurt. but the house, ravaged by flames and an unknown amount of human urine, is closed for now.

Ferguson Cop Supporters Crowdfunded a "Pants Up, Don't Loot" Billboard

Spurred on by a Tennessee resident who is concerned about the Ferguson protesters and their catchy chants, supporters of police officer Darren Wilson have donated more than enough money to post a billboard in the heart of the St. Louis suburb reading "#PantsUPDontLoot."

The phrase and hashtag, popularized by pearl-clutching National Review conservatives as a retort to the protesters' "Hands up, don't shoot" rallying cry, apparently seeks to redirect attention from alleged excessive police force to alleged "violence and mayhem" by demonstrators.

The idea to toss the phrase onto a billboard "in the heart of Florissant," where most of the Ferguson protests and police counter-actions have occurred, is being spearheaded by an IndieGoGo campaigner from Brentwood, Tennessee, named Don Alexander:

This crowdfunding campaign is for the purchase of a billboard in the Ferguson, MO area. The billboard will display black text on a white background with the text "#PantsUPDontLoot". After some initial confusion we are working with other, undisclosed companies in the area that are willing to create and display this image. The funds collected from this campaign will be used to purchase this billboard for as long as possible. Lamar originally quoted us ~$2,500 for 1 month but others have come in under that amount. Whatever funds we receive will go directly to keeping the billboard campaign up as long as possible. If we come to an agreement with a company and can fund it for 3 months, 5 months, 7 months..., we will.

Alexander initially sought $3,000 to get the billboard up; he was assisted by social media, including posters on St. Louis Coptalk, a commenting board for area police and their supporters.

"There is an effort to crowdfund a billboard in the Ferguson area against the rioting and looting with the hashtag #PantsUpDontLoot on it," one Coptalk commenter wrote on November 13. "It is coming down to the wire of getting it up before the Wilson announcement."

That same day, Alexander announced that the billboard had exceeded its goal, gathering $3,081 from 29 funders so far. Shortly after, one supporter commented: "we did it guys!"

Alexander hasn't run any other IndieGoGo campaigns, but ominously, records show he is tracking the progress of the "Ferguson Legal Defense Fund," a campaign supported by Talib Kweli that's attempting to raise money for bail for any demonstrators who get arrested on the city streets.

So far, that campaign has only reached 5 percent of its $25,000 goal.

Don Lemon Gives Bill Cosby Rape Accuser Tip for Not Getting Raped

CNN's Don Lemon might as well have asked Joan Tarshis, "Did you try not getting raped by Bill Cosby?"

After patting himself on the back for doing his job, Lemon did more of what he sees his job entails when he shared this exchange with Tarshis, who went public this week with allegations that Cosby raped her in 1969, while interviewing her earlier tonight:

Lemon: Can I ask you this? And please, I don't mean to be crude, OK?

Tarshis: Yeah.

Lemon: You said this last night, that he — you lied to him and said, "I have an infection, and if you rape me, or if you do — if you have intercourse with me, then you will probably get it and give it to your wife."

Tarshis: Right.

Lemon: You said he made you perform oral sex.

Tarshis: Right.

Lemon: You — you know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn't want to do it.

Kid Survives Massacre After Being Stabbed and Thrown Off a Bridge

A 13-year-old somehow survived a horrible Puerto Rico massacre that allegedly began over an eviction notice, managing to notify authorities after the attackers left him for dead.

Police say at least two armed men attacked 67-year-old Miguel Ortiz Diaz, his wife, his mother-in-law in their gated home in Guaynabo, an upscale neighborhood. They allegedly kidnapped Diaz's two teenage sons, later fatally shooting the older boy.

The younger son, 13, was able to escape when the attackers ran out of bullets after he somehow survived being stabbed and thrown off a bridge, the AP reports. They left him for dead, police say, and he was able to take shelter at a neighbor's home. He's now in police custody receiving medical care.

Cops believe Diaz may have been targeted by people who rented a home from him and were facing eviction. Two people have reportedly turned themselves in so far and officers say they have "concrete evidence" of their involvement.

Canadian Mom Faces Million-Dollar Medical Bill For Giving Birth in U.S.

A Saskatchewan couple may be stuck with medical bills of nearly $1,000,000 because their child was born prematurely during a vacation in Hawaii. Their insurance company refuses to pay for the delivery and the recovery, arguing the pregnancy was high-risk and a pre-existing condition.

Jennifer Huculak and her husband took the trip last October, when she was six months pregnant. They bought travel insurance from Blue Cross and checked with a Huculak's doctor before flying.

Two days into the vacation, her water broke. Her baby daughter arrived more than 2 months early and spent weeks in intensive care, while Huculak also needed weeks of bed rest. The family's hospital bill totaled $950,000.

But Blue Cross won't pay any of it, CTV News reports.

"Ms. Huculak was diagnosed and treated for a high-risk pregnancy in the six months prior to departure. As Ms. Huculak is currently hospitalized and being treated for this high-risk pregnancy, any expenses incurred are not eligible under the terms of your policy," the insurance company said in a letter to the family.

Huculak told CTV there was no "high-risk pregnancy," she just had a bladder infection that caused some bleeding. Her doctor in Saskatchewan explained to Blue Cross that the infection didn't have anything to do with the early labor, but it didn't change the company's decision not to pay.

Now the Huculaks have a 1-year-old who's doing fine, but they also have $950,000 in debt, and must decide whether to keep fighting Blue Cross or declare bankruptcy.

Canada's publicly funded single-payer healthcare system isn't without its flaws, but it's looking pretty good right about now.

Arizona Frat Suspended After Allegedly Assaulting Members of Jewish Frat

University of Arizona's famed Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter—you know, the one that reportedly drugged Johnny Knoxville—has allegedly continued its pattern of misconduct by assaulting members of Alpha Epsilon Pi, the Jewish frat on campus.

In a letter to students, the Dean of Students said SAE brothers have been accused of "acts of discrimination and assault against members of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity." The letter continues:

Reportedly on or about November 14, 2014, approximately 15 members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon forced entry into the off campus residence of UA students, yelling discriminatory comments at the UA students and physically assaulting them.

The university has banned SAE from going near the AEPi house. SAE headquarters has launched an internal investigation into the incident.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time AEPi has reported discriminatory attacks. AEPi President Gideon Rafal told KVOA that when he asked a stranger to leave the AEPi house back in March, the guy came back with others to assault him.

"At that point he starts backing off with his hand raised saluting Hitler and he runs into a house right next to our house and comes out with 20 guys," Rafal explained. "I had a skull fracture, lower back fracture, bleeding in the brain and a concussion."

Boarding School Raises Millions With White Guilt Marketing Scheme

In an intriguing new report by CNN, St. Joseph's Indian School has been "exposed" using less than honest sob stories and fake names in their letters to prospective donors—to the tune of $50 million last year. Turns out that "Josh Little Bear" didn't write you a letter begging for his continued sanctuary from poverty and drugs.

St. Joseph's Indian School is a boarding school in Chamberlain, South Dakota that seeks "to educate Native American youth mind, body, heart and spirit," taking in 200 students every year. The school's site goes on:

Child poverty and abuse are serious issues on Indian reservations. By supporting St. Joseph's Indian School, you are helping Native American children in need regain pride in the Lakota (Sioux) culture by learning the Lakota language, studying Native American culture and healing the broken family circle from which they come.

The school reportedly sends 30 million pieces of a mail every year as part of their fundraising campaign, which has included, CNN reports, "calendars, personalized return address stickers, notepads, elaborate stickers and a so-called 'Dreamcatcher,' a Native American handicraft that by tradition gives its owners good dreams."

Their mailers also include those treacly letters penned by "Josh Little Bears" and "Emily High Elks," individuals whose stories the school admitted to CNN do not exist. From the school's executive director of development Kory Christianson's letter to the news network:

The name "Josh Little Bear" is fictitious, but unfortunately, his story is not. The letter is a true story of the very real and challenging situations that far too many children face not only in the Native American community, but in families found in every sphere of society.

"It is never our intention to disparage in any way the Native American community," Christianson writes. "Our commitment to and respect for Native American people is evident in our work and our mission."

Native Americans in the community have balked at the fundraising campaign, deriding the letters. "That's how they get their money," Leonard Pease, vice chairman of the Crow Creek Lakota Sioux reservation, told CNN. "To me, they make the Indians look bad."

Michael Roberts, president of the First Nations Development Institute, which represents Native American nonprofits, called the scheme "poverty porn." It's hard to disagree. I mean, look at one of the letters:

But even CNN admits, "it seems that the money being raised is being used for the right reasons:"

We were given a tour of the school but were not allowed to film. The complex, on the banks of the Missouri River, looks like a nice place and the children seemed happy, well-fed and well-housed.

Indeed, St. Joseph's Indian School does not appear to be a necessarily insidious agent bilking people out of money to run a slum. They're not exactly innocent, either—pursuant to their status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, they disclosed $122 million in assets last year, casting reported pleas for money to pay heating bills in serious doubt.

Exploiting white guilt can be an effective (and profitable!) marketing tool. It's easy. Those letters look fake. You'd have to be a willful idiot to believe one, and it appears plenty are. Because while the school's methods—namely, playing up poor Native American stereotypes—seem disingenuous, those letters are an honest acknowledgement of Americans' need for a sad story about a cute kid to be bothered (or rather, suckered) to care at all.

Hunter Takes Aim at Dead Deer, Shoots Other Hunter Who Killed It

A hunter who had ventured across the Hudson from Dutchess County, New York, on the first day of hunting season took aim at a deer he thought he saw rustling in the brush. His shot, however, ended up in the butt of another hunter who had already killed the deer and was trying to haul it out of the forest.

Via Vocativ, the Poughkeepsie Journal first told this story of Second Amendment Men gone wild:

The second hunter, also from Dutchess, had killed a deer and was using a cart to remove it from property off Meads Lane, on Stormville Mountain, owned by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, said Kevin Keefe, chief of the East Fishkill Police Department. The first hunter saw the deer moving, thought it was alive, fired and struck the first hunter in the hand and buttocks. The injured hunter was taken to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

MTV Documentary Seeks Subjects to Discuss the Hardships of Being White

"We know it can be hard to talk about race, especially when you are white," the solicitation reads. "MTV is trying something different, a documentary exploring the ideas, experiences and attitudes of young, white Americans around race. We think its [sic] time to think."

The Craigslist ad sounded like a joke as it made the Twitter rounds. But it was not a joke:

The casting call is part of a documentary effort by a Brooklyn-based company, Punched in the Head Productions. "We specialize in eye-opening, perspective-changing stories about real people," its website says—"the kind that make you feel like you've been 'punched in the head.'"

To that end, Punched in the Head is seeking young white people who have their own stories of racial hardship, prejudice, and victimhood.

But it's not what you might think: It's for an untitled "Whiteness Project" being spearheaded by Jose Antonio Vargas, the Pulitzer-winning journalist who garnered fame and notoriety after revealing in writing that he was an undocumented immigrant.

I've reached out to Vargas, whose journalism mixes easily with policy advocacy, for comment on the project. He may give beleaguered white youths a forum in the upcoming documentary, but he's unlikely to let them dominate the narrative. His nonprofit, Define American, and Punched in the Head are looking for Caucasian kids with other perspectives, too:

...Has something happened in your life that's made you confront your own possible white privilege? Do you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 24?
...Is your life different than people who live or go to school with mostly white people - for better or worse? Do you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 24?
...Do most people look at you and think you're white, but you hesitate before checking the "caucasian" box on forms? Do you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 24?

If none of this is your sort of thing, Punched in the Head is also casting for teens who are being ****-shamed, show-dog owners, and people with overweight pets.

Cops Drag Sad, Drunk Cyclist Away From Taco Bell Drive-Thru at 3 a.m.

In his strangely poetic mugshot, Gabriel Harris of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., appears to be the saddest man in the world, wracked with a deep and abiding pain we can hardly begin to comprehend. But was he upset at his arrest, or at being dragged away empty-handed from Taco Bell at 3 a.m.? Either seems pretty plausible when you're drunk.

Cops say that Harris, 33, drunkenly rode his bicycle into the drive-thru as Taco Bell was closing, and tried to put in an order. He refused to leave until he was served, so employees called the cops.

When they arrived, Harris was still sitting on his bike near the speaker. Officers claim he had a Swiss Army knife on his belt loop and grabbed the cop who tried to take it away from him. They wrestled him to the ground—which might explain the bloodied forehead in his mugshot—and charged him with resisting arrest.

Wanting Taco Bell when you're wasted is no crime, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it. It's weird to see these words in this order, but we can learn a lot from Charlie Sheen here. He's a maniac, but he's a maniac with a designated driver.

Elementary School Teacher Arrested for Sending Student "Sexual" Photos

Here's something depressing: teacher-student racy photo scandals are no longer limited to high school. A 28-year-old fifth grade teacher in Florida was arrested yesterday after allegedly sending sexual photos to a student at her school—so, a child under the age of 12—via the messaging app Kik.

WZVN reports that Tara Milton Roberts, who was fired from her job at River Hall Elementary School, was charged with cruelty towards a child and transmitting information harmful to minors on Tuesday. She's being held on $20,000 bond.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the student was not in Roberts's class. She allegedly sent the student multiple photos of her "scantily clad" figure via Kik—deputies say the messages "started off as friendly but soon turned into more sexual in nature." It's not clear how these allegations came to light, but deputies say Roberts told the student not to tell because she would get in trouble.

Drunk Man Kills His Best Friend, Chops Off His Penis, and Feeds It to Dog

Mario Alberto Lizalde Reyes turned himself into Chihuahua, Mexico police the day after he allegedly shot his best friend Mario Hernandez Banda dead, cut off his penis, and fed the severed organ to his dog.

According to Central European News, Reyes, 25, told police in his taped confession that the two were walking his dog together, both drunk, when Banda, 24, apparently tried touching Reyes "in a sexual way."

"After pushing him off, he went to urinate in an alley so I followed him, pulled out my gun and shot him in the head," Reyes told police. "I then took his knife off him and chopped off his penis as punishment and put it in a bag. But my dog was next to me and was sniffing at it so I decided to give it to him and he ate it."

Reyes then apparently left Banda's bloodied body in the alley and finished walking his dog before returning home to sleep off the alcohol. He was apparently racked with so much guilt, he turned himself into police the next day.

"He came in covered in cuts and bruises and said he had fought with his stepfather when he told him what he had done," a police spokesman told the Daily Mail. "He then admitting killing his best friend and said that although his friend had tried sexually assaulting him, he was still a human being and didn't deserve to die."

Glenn Beck: The Media "Just Raped Bill Cosby"

Glenn Beck, person who profits by saying outrageously dumb things, said another outrageously dumb thing Thursday. Specifically, he claimed that alleged rapist Bill Cosby is actually a victim of rape himself—media rape, by the evil and predatory mainstream media!

On his show Thursday, Beck went on a rant about the Associated Press's decision to publish an unedited video interview with Cosby. The footage reveals the comedian asked a reporter to "scuttle" their discussion of the sexual assault allegations against him.

"You want to talk about rape? That's media rape, right there," Beck said, disingenuously equating investigative journalism with sexual assault.

"You said you would not do that. Since when does your 'no' mean 'yes?' Do you know the definition of 'no,' sir? You've just raped Bill Cosby. You said you wouldn't do it. You just did it and then you blamed it on him. My gosh, maybe we should have a lesson on rape."

Emphasis mine, because it's just. So. Dumb.

Aside from trivializing the very violation several women say Cosby committed against them, Beck's gross analogy between the interview and sexual consent isn't even accurate.

When it released the video, the AP was clear that "the interview was on record" and there was "no agreement to avoid questions about the allegations or to withhold publishing any of his comments at any time."

If anyone is guilty of damaging Cosby's reputation here, it's Cosby.

Queens Hotel Manager Doesn't Want Any Yucky Homeless People in His Rooms

When New York City's Department of Homeless Services was temporarily without beds for a group of local homeless people this month, it did a pretty cool thing: booked 100 rooms at a Radisson in Jamaica, Queens and told the hotel's management they were for a "government group."

Pierre Merhej, the hotel's manager, was none too happy about the apparent bait-and-switch. DNAinfo reports:

Still, Merhej said he would not allow DHS to book rooms at the hotel again, even if the city offered more money.

"This is a hotel, not a shelter, and we want to keep it this way," he said. "We have a business to run and a reputation to keep and we intend on keeping it."

Merhej admitted that the hotel's use as a temporary shelter didn't "really have an impact on our regular guests," and was unsure how many homeless people actually stayed in the rooms during the 10-day period for which they were booked.

It's not the first time the city has housed homeless people in a hotel, which, when you get down to it, is an enormously cost-ineffective band-aid for New York's 58,000-strong homeless population. Good for DHS for engaging in a little light trickery to make sure those people weren't spending the night in the cold, but spending some money on figuring out permanent housing would be even better.

Horny Couple Causes Traffic Jam Humping in Their Car Outside of Jail

Springfield, Ore. police arrested a couple last Sunday having sex in their car, conveniently parked (and rocking) outside the jailhouse.

Police told KVAL that Kelli M. Knutson, 24, and Logan P. Jackson, 33, apparently went to a strip club together, and after leaving, and feeling "caught up in the moment," walked across the street to their car parked in front the jail, and started having sex. Their display reportedly caused a small traffic jam—drivers kept slowing down to watch them.

"We'd normally tell them to go someplace that's safer than a parking lot, or wherever we might find them," Sgt. Rich Charboneau told KVAL. "In this case, we had traffic being slowed down, we had someone complaining about it, so we had to take action."

Both were arrested by police on indecent exposure and disorderly conduct charges. They were booked in separate jails.

Principal Says "Nothing Racial" About Powderpuff Team in Blackface

A high school powderpuff football team—made up entirely of white girls from the senior class—took the field in full blackface Nov. 5, shocking their principal and everyone who saw the photos on Facebook. But the principal claims there was "nothing racial" about the girls' intent.

At first, Sullivan High School principal Jennifer Schmidt thought, "Oh my gosh," she told St. Louis alt-weekly Riverfront Times, but then she decided "Oh, they don't mean anything by it. Just let it go. No one thinks anything of it."

But people who saw the photos drew different conclusions, considering that Sullivan, Mo., is just 60 miles from St. Louis. USA Today pointed out that the facepaint "would seem to be particularly distressing given Sullivan's relative proximity" to the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and the subsequent protests.

Also distressing: this photo of the seniors raising a bloody jersey, which represents a defeated freshman team:

Schmidt says that critics of the team "got the wrong intention," and wearing face paint in the school colors—black and gold—is an annual powderpuff tradition meant to parody football eye-black and "intimidate the underclassmen." But this year, they somehow forgot the gold.

If there's no ill intent there, there's at least bad taste and worse timing.

None of the girls have been disciplined, but "I can assure you they will not be wearing black face paint again," Schmidt said.

"In fact, we're probably just going to end the face-paint thing, and nobody wears any at all."

Yes. Good thinking. That is probably for the best.
