Stupid People Doing Stupid Things Thread - Part 2

My question is how does one casually engage a total stranger in a conversation on this topic?

"Hey, have you heard about race?"

"I'm black, you're white... wanna talk about it?"

"Man my morning sucks. You know what else sucks? Slavery."

"How would you like your coffee?" "Black." "Hey, that makes me think of an important topic in our day..."

Yes it would seem ill advised. I'm sure the only thing holding back a racist from their ignorant views is an engaging discussion with a barista

Teens Sometimes Change Clothes While Driving, Study Says

hhf1xcruh870oxir2xml.jpg

Ah, the carefree days of teenagehood. Cruising around with your friends in mom's beatup minivan and not giving a hoot about anything, even keeping your eyes on the road. A new study reports that twenty-seven percent of teenagers have admitted to changing clothes, contact lenses, and doing homework while driving. Unsafe!

Not a good look for teens. NPR shares news of a study published on Monday by the Journal of Transportation and Safety claiming that texting while driving among the teen set is down (only 40 percent admitted to it this time around, which is down from 43 percent), but all other kinds of nonsense still happens, including putting on makeup while driving. Teens, knock it off.

In order to prove to the teenagers who participated in the study at Oregon State University that distracted driving is dangerous, David Huritz, an assistant professor of transportation engineering, said they put teens up to a distraction test:

The researchers also asked the teens surveyed to participate in an interactive drivers education class in high school in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. To help kids understand the risks of distracted driving, the researchers had them try multitasking in less potentially lethal locales, like the classroom.

For example, instructors asked students to try writing down numbers on a chalkboard while having a phone conversation. "This was just a scenario to demonstrate that having a distraction can really prevent you from doing basic tasks," Hurwitz says.

This made the teens reportedly more aware of their risky behavior while driving, researchers said.

Probably didn't, though.

I did all kinds of stupid stuff while driving when I was a teen. They think they are invincible and sadly only learning the hard way will teach them

UPDATE: Target's Data Breach Settlement Could Pay Victims Up to $10,000 Each

luknmext90uza7zoe2h3.jpg

Back in 2013, Target suffered an incredibly embarrassing data breach where 40 million customer credit cards were compromised. Now, following lengthy discussions with the lawyers of those affected by the hack, the retailer has agreed to pay up a $10 million settlement.

CBS News reports that the sum could see individuals affected by the data breach receive up to $10,000 in damages. The settlement was decided on March 9th, but it was only submitted to a federal judge for approval yesterday. While it's yet to be formally signed off, the settlement documentation is thorough—enough to include a draft of the form that victims will fill in to make a claim, as KSTP points out.

If all goes to plan, a digital version of that form will appear on a dedicated website, where those affected by the breach will be asked to provide "reasonable documentation showing their losses more likely than not arose from the Target data breach (for example, a credit card statement, invoice or receipt)..." That will include up to two hours of "lost time" billed at $10 per hour for each type of loss.

As many as 40 million Target customer credit cards were compromised 2013, while up to 110 million sets of personal information such as email addresses and phone numbers were stolen. Its expected that the number making claims will be much smaller, not least because those numbers include many duplicates.

Well if your a Target customer your about to get paid

Florida Orders Mental Exam for Worker Who Pushed Climate Change Agenda

jk8ilevzwu9agtrfb8fy.jpg

Florida Gov. Rick Scott's unofficial official policy of climate denial has taken a turn for the bizarre: A high-level employee in the state Department of Environmental Protection now says he was suspended and told to get a medical evaluation for refusing to purge mentions of climate change from a state record.

Scott—the dumbest politician in the history of politicians, capable of tuning out an entire room of scientists confronting him with fact-type thingies—has come under fire for more than a week after multiple reports from state workers that his administration banned them from mentioning climate change, global warming and sea-level rise, issues that are sort of germane in a state with 1,350 miles of coastline and the lowest elevation above sea level of any state other than Delaware.

Scott, predictably, denies such a policy is in place. But state land management coordinator Barton Bibler—who clearly was trying to test the administration's (rising) waters—has been forced by the state to prove he's not crazy after he refused to scrub mentions of "climate change" from the official minutes of a department meeting where he says climate change was a major topic of discussion.

Here's what happened, according to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), which has taken up Bibler's case:

He attended a Florida Coastal Managers Forum on February 27, 2015 at which climate change and sea-level rise were discussed among a mix of public attendees. Mr. Bibler's official notes on this meeting reflected all of that discussion. He was directed to remove any hot button issues, especially explicit references to climate change, and then was given a letter of reprimand for supposedly misrepresenting that the "official meeting agenda included climate change."

According to Bibler's notes on the meeting, climate change was on a lot of people's minds.

But according to his letter of reprimand, Bibler's notes originally included that climate change agenda under the name of the meeting's moderator, a high-ranking official named Ann Lazar. "This was not part of the original agenda developed by Ann," Bibler's supervisor wrote, and so he was sent back to "revise" his notes—perhaps out of fear that they might suggest Lazar had run afoul of the Scott administration's unwritten edict.

Bibler altered the header to remove Lazar's name from the notes, but he kept all the mentions of climate change. That, PEER says, led to the state putting Bibler on leave and telling him not to come back until he was cleared by a doctor. His reprimand cited the state's ordinance against public employees doing political lobbying while on the job.

The documents suggest Bibler was hardly blameless in the incident; during the meeting, his comments veered into personal opinions against the Keystone XL pipeline, which—however dumb it may be—isn't perhaps among the topics most relevant to the state's struggle with climate change. And when Bibler's supervisor ordered him to alter his record of the meeting, he got downright juvenile, according to his reprimand:

You then emailed what you said was an attached agenda of your notes of agency reports on climate change. The attachment was of the words Keystone XL Pipeline with a red circle and a cross through it.

Immature, sure, and a level of subordinate squirreliness that warranted correction. But if climate change was a major topic of the meeting, why was Bibler ordered to alter his account of the gathering? And did his behavior really warrant a psych eval? His supervisors sure think so:

Based upon Personnel Rules regarding Attendance and Leaving, specifically, Compulsory Disability Leave and also information we have received regarding your medical condition and behavior, we have attached a Medical Release Form you will need to have your doctor complete before you will be able to return to work.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is requesting your physician's professional opinion concerning your ability to return to work and to perform the duties and responsibilities of your position on a full time basis.

Elsewhere in Bibler's reprimand, his supervisor calls his job performance "exceptionally good" and makes clear that he is "a valued employee." But, it adds, "your inappropriate behavior must be permanently changed in order to re-establish a relationship of trust between you and your supervisors."

A DEP spokeswoman refused to comment on Bibler's case, only telling the Palm Beach Post Wednesday: "There's no such policy banning the use of 'climate change.'"

Pregnant Woman’s Baby Cut From Womb After She Answered Craigslist Ad

kskrubjbe3bjsza1350p.png

An absolutely horrific crime took place yesterday afternoon in Colorado: A seven-months pregnant woman responding to a Craigslist post for baby's clothing at a Longmont house was attacked and stabbed in her stomach, her fetus removed, allegedly by the woman who'd place the ad. The woman survived, but her baby did not.

The Daily Times-Call reports that responding officers heard a woman screaming for help from inside the home. When they entered, they found the 26-year-old victim, beaten and stabbed, with her unborn baby missing. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and operated on, and is expected to recover.

The 34-year-old suspect, who apparently did not know the victim, was arrested at the same hospital sometime later, after she showed up with the baby and told hospital workers she'd suffered a miscarriage. She was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death.

From the Times-Call:

The alleged assailant has two children, Satur said. Her husband apparently drove her and the baby to the hospital and then returned to the scene later. He was escorted to the hospital but has not been arrested and is not a suspect, Satur said.

"This is a tragic case for a mother right now," Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur told the Times-Call News. "She came by this house. She was attacked, and her baby was removed from her."

The brutal crime is the second Craigslist-related tragedy of the past six weeks; in late January, an elderly couple in Georgia were murdered after responding to an ad for their "dream car" placed on the site.

Walmart Shoplifting Suspect Escapes By Kicking Through the Ceiling

A suspected—and determined—shoplifter at a Walmart in Mobile, Ala. managed to escape store security Wednesday by climbing up into the store's ventilation system. From there, he crawled his way to the store's entrance, kicked through the ceiling, jumped down, and fled.

According to AL.com, the suspect was first apprehended by a loss prevention officer outside the store and was then taken to a security office, where he presumably climbed through the ceiling and into the store's air ducts. He traveled about 20 feet, WKRG reports, before kicking his way out.

Brannan Lynn, who was at the McDonald's inside the Walmart with his father that day, recorded the alleged bandit making his getaway. He told WSFA, "He sticks his feet through the ceiling by the entrance door, hangs himself on top of the door frame, jumps down and somehow gets away with 30 people standing around him...it's the craziest thing I've ever seen."

The Mobile police department confirmed to AL.com that the suspect allegedly stole a debit card, shoes, a hat, a watch, and underwear.

http://www.abc57.com/story/28558090...ten-on-an-intermediate-school-students-locker

An Elkhart family is looking for answers because their daughter has been bullied at school, has received racial threats, but nothing has been done.

It has happened three times in the past two weeks.

NyZeria Neely attends Concord Intermediate School and has received two messages on sticky notes on her locker.

Her parents are sick, feeling like their hands are tied.

“Y'all don't make me feel safe; y'all don't make my daughter feel safe,” said Eugenia Neely, NyZeria's mother.

Eugenia believes her daughter's school should be a bully free zone, but her daughter is telling her a different story.

“Last week on Monday, I got my first note and it said ‘Watch your back,'” said NyZeria.

NyZeria didn't take the threat lightly.

“I was worried, very worried about the note, because nowadays people bring weapons to school,” said Eugenia.

Things only got worse after a second note came a week later, attacking her race.

“I got a note that said ‘N----s don't belong here,'” said NyZeria.

She said she has an idea of who wrote the notes, because a girl once called her the “n-word” to her face.

So, she reported the notes to her teacher.

“The principal called me down to his office and he told me that I shouldn't worry, because they're just words and I felt like it was more than words, it was very offensive,” said NyZeria.

Her mom agrees; believing administrators could have done more.

“Be honest with you, it's never good enough,” said Eugenia.

ABC57 reached out to the principal and his office said they do not comment on internal matters.

It is the same thing they told Eugenia.

“They couldn't tell us what the consequences was for the little girl, the girl who called her the ‘n' word,” said Eugenia.

NyZeria's parents say as long as the author of those notes remains in school with their daughter they will not be satisfied.

“We just trying to get justice done for our child,” said Avonn Pratcher, NyZeria's father.

Justice they hope will heal some of the wounds their daughter still has.

“I just keep trying to talk to them to let them know that everyone is not like that,” said Eugenia.
Its disgusting that this little girl has to go through **** like this. Its even worse that the ****ing principal and the school's response to racist slurs directed at her and a threat made against her is to not worry about it because theyre only words. What a joke.

So much for zero tolerance at schools. Apparently it's only if a kid has a toy that could never hurt anyone or if they play tag or something, death threats and racial slurs are A-Okay though.

Oregon Sends 8,000 Alerts Erroneously Announcing Inmates' Release

qfdtur2g5y4woin0qqiv.jpg

Thousands of victims and family members received phone calls from an Oregon Department of Corrections monitoring system on Friday altering them in error to inmates' impending release, The Oregonian reports.

Corrections spokeswoman Elizabeth Craig said the Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) system, which allows victims and family members to track when inmates are to be released, issued about 8,000 alerts. The contractor responsible for the system plans to call all notified victims and inform of the error, she said.

Among those who received the false alerts included family members of victims of the murderer Ward Weaver III, who was convicted in 2004 of killing two teenage girls and is serving a life sentence.

Brea Day, a cousin of one of the murdered girls, said she was "instantly horrified." Speaking to local broadcaster KGW-TV, she added, "It's very upsetting."

krujpijkhchpckhdcbvi.jpg

Two MTA bus drivers were arrested in Midtown on Friday evening after getting out of their vehicles and fighting in the street, The New York Post reports.

According to the Post, Giuseppe Marinaro, 53, slammed on his brakes and got out of his bus after Leonardo Pacheco, 31, cut him off. Pacheco got out of his bus and allegedly "booted" Marinaro in the head.

CBS New York reports that the incident occurred somewhere in the Midtown South Precinct, "bounded by 45th Street on the north, 29th Street on the south, Madison and Lexington avenues on the east, and Ninth Avenue on the west."

Pacheco was charged with assault, the Post reports, and Marinaro with obstructing governmental administration.

Police Shoot Man Armed With Machete and Wasp Spray at Airport

chts28tzvvm7ag11wxrv.jpg

A man wielding a machete and wasp spray at the New Orleans international airport was shot by police on Friday, The Times-Picayune reports. The man attacked TSA agents at a security checkpoint before he was shot three times by the on-duty sheriff's deputy.

The man was identified as Richard White, 63, a taxi driver. From the Times:

White walked down a TSA Pre-Check security line into Concourse B shortly before 8 p.m. and was challenged by an officer who was checking for his boarding pass, Normand said. He then pulled out a can of wasp spray and sprayed the officer, he said.

White ran past two other officers and then pulled a large machete from his waistband, Normand said. A TSA agent blocked the weapon using a piece of luggage as White ran through the magnetometer, he said.

White advanced upon sheriff's office lieutenant Heather Slyve with his machete, whereupon she shot him three times, according to The Guardian. Two bystanders were injured by stray bullets, including one TSA agent.

"I know there have been a lot of questions as to whether or not we believe there's any national security threat or anything along those lines," Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.

"At this point in time, we don't have any information that leads us to believe that's the case as it relates to this situation."

Radio station WWNO reports that White is alive and in surgery but "unresponsive."

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) The Afghan woman is dragged onto a roof and hit with a stick, as a horde of angry, screaming men swarm around her.

At one point, video shows her standing with her face covered in blood. She is pushed and falls over, and her beating continues with feet, with rocks, with boards. Then, in the last part of the video, her body is engulfed in flames -- though it's not known whether, by that point, she was already dead.
