Teacher Arrested for Giving Middle Schooler a Birthday Lap Dance

ly79aw1j2ry0rtew0zbd.jpg

A 42-year-old teacher has been arrested after admitting to giving one of her middle school students a "full contact lap dance" in front of her entire class.

Felicia Smith of Houston, Texas, is being charged with an improper relationship with a student after she reportedly rubbed her hands all over the boy's body and then dropped to her knees and put her head between his legs.

The boy says he slapped Smith's ass several times during the incident, and a probable cause affidavit notes the teacher's moves caused him to "have an erected penis."

Smith ended the nearly four-minute-long dance by saying, "I love you, baby. Happy birthday."

The victim is 15.

Investigators are reviewing a video of the lap dance. Smith told them that her other students convinced her to grind on the boy as a joke.

Smith is free on $30,000 bond, and is due back in court May 22.

The Famous Pro-Gun "Quotes" the Founding Fathers Never Actually Said

699660136997190289.jpg

"1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms!" an unhinged Alex Jones once screamed at a slightly more-hinged Piers Morgan. Jonesies—who've gone all in for Cliven Bundy—love to cite America's founders to defend their gun caresses. Usually, they get it wrong.

Sure, the elite landed intellectuals who laid America's groundwork saw the usefulness of their age's rudimentary firearms. But their views on guns were complicated and narrow, with nuances that don't fit easily on Second Amendment absolutists' bumper stickers.

As gun-toters and their industry-funded lobby have simplified and meme-ified their arguments, they've simplified our view of the founding fathers, too—usually with distorted or fabricated quotes that give historians paroxysms. Here are some of the gunners' greatest mythical quotations, along with their nutty origins.

1. "The people will not understand the importance of the Second Amendment until it is too late."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Thomas Jefferson.

TRUTH: This is a "spurious" quotation, according to Jefferson scholars at his ancestral home of Monticello; it reportedly first appeared in a 2007 revolutionary screed by a libertarian author who also managed to misspell "Capitol" in his book's title.

2. "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Thomas Jefferson, or Thomas Paine, or Samuel Adams.

TRUTH:The earliest version of this didn't appear until 1914, when an obscure anti-marxist crusader used it in a published debate on the correctness of socialism. It was first attributed to Jefferson in a 1994 pamphlet by a "mind control" conspiracy theorist who also recently asked readers: "ARE U.S. PRESIDENTS CLONED? (WHAT HAVE THOSE SECRET NAZI BEEN UP TO ALL THESE YEARS?!)"

3. "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and the citizen's firearms are indelibly related."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: George Washington.

TRUTH: "Prairie wagon"? Washington? Stop smoking crack. Misattributed to the original Dubya in 2011 by two hunters who write for a gun-fondling mag called Sporting Classics. Also printed in Playboy in 1995, and subsequently retracted by Playboy in 1996.

4. "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Jefferson, again.

TRUTH: If by Jefferson you mean "a conservative syndicated columnist and gun-loving Confederate sympathizer writing in the Orlando Sentinel in 1989 just before he endorsed a book titled Was Jefferson Davis Right?" then sure, it's Jefferson.

5. "The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be questioned."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: John Madison.

TRUTH: Actually comes from the 1790 Pennsylvania Constitution. And Madison was always all "**** Pennsylvania."

6. "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self defense."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: John Adams.

TRUTH: A version of this was even used by the NRA for several years. Because what Adams—federalist, signer of the Sedition Acts, and perennial pessimist about human nature—really liked was armed mobs. In fact, this is a bastardization of a longer quote in defense of the Constitution, which says something very different—namely, that armed untrained citizens in mass posed a threat to liberty and constitutional government:

To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws.

7. "The best we can help for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Alexander Hamilton.

TRUTH: Besides being a grammatical pooch-screw, this one-liner is cited by gun fans as being in Article 184 of the Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers have 85 articles. But it does appear to be a deceptive paraphrase of Federalist No. 29, "Concerning the Militia," in which Hamilton actually suggests that individual boobs are incompetent with guns, but hey, you go to war against England with the undisciplined makeshift militia you have:

The project of disciplining all the militia of the United States is as futile as it would be injurious, if it were capable of being carried into execution… Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped; and in order to see that this be not neglected, it will be necessary to assemble them once or twice in the course of a year.

8. "Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Jefferson, of course.

TRUTH: Monticello researchers, again: "We have not found any evidence that Thomas Jefferson said or wrote, 'Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.'" Hell, they couldn't even figure out who first made up this turd. Here's a tinfoil-hatter on Alex Jones' Infowars.com using it in a 2007 column.

9. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

FALSELY ATTRIBUTED TO: Jefferson, or Patrick Henry, or Junius.

TRUTH: About as American as potato pie. It probably first came from a longer quote by one of my alleged ancestors, the Irish jurist John Philpott Curran, in 1790.

Now you can school any gun loving American on where their favorite quotes actually come from!

Producers Want Millions from Actress Who Got Cancer During Rehearsals

vlkrohvzrrlafacwwtsu.jpg

The playwright and producers of a Broadway show are demanding $2 million from former lead actress Valerie Harper, claiming she hurt the play when a brain cancer diagnosis forced her to drop out.

Although the Mary Tyler Moore Show actress first contracted lung cancer in 2009, she continued to work, eventually landing the role of Tallulah Bankhead in Matthew Lombardo's Broadway show, "Looped." Harper received rave reviews for her portrayal of the troubled actress, playing the role for nearly three years.

But that all changed in late 2012 when Harper apparently began slurring her words and forgetting lines during rehearsals. It grew so noticeable that the director eventually demanded she seek medical attention.

She was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a fatal brain cancer, and was given only months to live.

According to the lawsuit, Harper dropped out of the play the same month and sought treatment.

After she left, the production refused to pay out the rest of her contract, prompting Harper to sue. Now, Lombardo and the show's producers are suing back, alleging Harper hid her brain cancer diagnosis from the production. They're demanding $500,000 that they say it took to hire a new actress, plus an additional $1.5 million in punitive damages.

Harper—who famously won a multi-million dollar verdict against Lorimar Telepictures in the 1980's—recently clarified that she's still battling the cancer but has had a "great response to a certain drug."

Almost-Politician Sarah Palin Says Waterboarding is like a Baptism

vbhskwyjbirjsxi2rro4.jpg

Almost-politician Sarah Palin headlined this weekend for an NRA event and she didn't disappoint, telling the crowd, "If I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists."

Of course Palin, who will never be in charge, wasn't there to deliver policy announcements. The well-paid Tea Party fluffer mainly focused on a gross misinterpretation of a comment Eric Holder recently made about incorporating technology into gun safety.

"Vice President Biden and I had a meeting with a group of technology people and we talked about how guns can be made more safe," Holder testified recently before the Department of Justice. "By making them either through finger print identification, the gun talks to a bracelet or something that you might wear, how guns can be used only by the person who is lawfully in possession of the weapon."

Or in Palin's words, "Attorney General Eric Holder, recently he reveals this idea to have government have gun owners wear bracelets, special bracelets, that would identify you as a gun owner."

Neighborhood Outraged at Couple Who Painted Their Home Like Up Home

ziyzdpvkh4gxc6k3keoa.png

A sweet young family in Santa Clara, California has nearly finished renovations on their Victorian home, keeping most of its historical features, while painting it to make it closely resemble the home from the Pixar movie Up. Their neighbors — a real bunch of grumps — are up in arms over the decision, saying they should have kept the historic theme of the neighborhood.

Hosam Haggog and Fatima Rahman, the home's owners, spent more than two years on the renovations, which they did largely for their daughters: "They love the movie Up and we just thought we'd give them something fun to be proud of, and actually all the kids in the neighborhood really love the colors." A sweet idea, putting aside the possible shortsightedness of allowing your children to design your home based on a children's movie. But the adult neighbors don't see it to be as sweet, as they explained to NBC Bay Area:

"I don't think it fits in," neighbor Lou Faria said of the renovated Victorian.

Faria, who also is a member of the Old Quad Residents Association, said the Haggog and Rahman should have kept to the historic theme of the neighborhood.

"It really, in my opinion, is atrocious that this Victorian is a gracious old lady and it's being painted up to look like a clown," Faria said.

"I like historical houses to be historical," neighbor Chuck Petersen said. "On the other hand, it's his home and I feel that sometime down the line it's going to be repainted again anyway."
The times they are a-bein' painted up to look like clowns.

Either 192% of Americans Weighed in on Obamacare or WaPo's Chart Sucks

r1lumufiwsuzi8tc13zm.png

Maybe both. On the plus side, America hates everything and everybody, according to the Washington Post-ABC News poll tabs.

(Note: "Sucks" doesn't mean "wrong." The "net" totals aren't separated out from the breakout totals in the vertical text column or the bar column, hence the superficial appearance of more than 100 percent pie. Poor data viz, is all. The poll itself is good and you should read it, which is why it's linked above. Jesus, people, nobody in Washington laughs at themselves anymore, except over GoT recaps on their Droids while waiting for their intern-at-Cato blind dates at the Passenger.)

So apparently there are 2 sets of numbers going into this chart, why would you do that instead of having 2 charts that aren't confusing

Tea Party Senate Candidate Caught on Video Taking Church Donations

jnljrvujly8vo0cqfxta.jpg

Mark Harris could win North Carolina's GOP Senate primary next Tuesday. If so, he may easily become the state's next U.S. senator. And he could do it all with sketchy "love offerings" from parishioners caught on tape passing the hat at the church where he's a pastor.

WRAL-TV in Raleigh captured the January video, from the church's very own playlist of sermons—part of the station's longer story about how Harris, a longtime man of God and new Tea Party darling, has actively mixed his religion with his politics, including ways that may skirt campaign-finance laws and threaten several churches' tax-exempt status.

As federally approved nonprofits, churches must refrain from materially supporting political candidates and their campaigns or making clear-cut endorsements of candidates. As a candidate, Harris is required to report all his campaign donations, no matter how small. But the video, and additional info gathered by WRAL, suggests neither Harris nor his Blackwelder Park Baptist Church may be living up to their obligations.

In the video, after about an hour of passionate praising and Harris' sermonizing (at 1:06), current pastor Rev. Don Saylor tells his flock Harris "would make a great senator," adding:

Now, I want you to do this also – we're going to take an offering, all right? We're going to take an offering for Dr. Harris, for his coming and preaching, also for whatever you want to do otherwise for supporting him in this campaign. I hope you will think about it. He has some materials in his car. If you would like to get more materials and pass them out and thereby get better known in this area, and then when the primaries come, you and all of your friends can vote for him. Amen?
A campaign finance expert consulted by WRAL called the donations "problematic," but candidate Harris says these "love offerings" are no big deal, and he does this at a lot of churches across the state while he campaigns:

"I would hope the pastor would made it very clear that we're taking up a love offering for Mark Harris the pastor, not for the campaign," Harris said. "Some of these guys are very aware that I'm on a personal leave of absence without pay, and I have no income. So, should the church take up a love offering, that would be no different from them taking up a love offering when I was preaching revival there or preaching any other meeting."
There's no telling how much Harris has raised this way, since he apparently hasn't reported any of those church donations as campaign contributions, as FEC regulations would appear to require. Again, no big deal, he told the TV station:

"Some churches haven't given me anything, quite frankly," he said.

Other churches, he said, will give him a payment for his travel expenses. Others follow the old Baptist tradition of taking up an offering for the traveling preacher.

"Often time, to be honest with you, a love offering doesn't even cover my mileage," he said.
Harris is among the top three candidates in an eight-person race for the GOP nomination next week; he's lost ground recently but could make an early-summer runoff. The winner faces embattled Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan, whose seat is considered crucial for Republicans if they want to win back the Senate. In recent polls, Harris beats Hagan by about 4 points statewide.

Montana Man Charged After Shooting, Killing German Exchange Student

njyspzemydrrhahsb2nd.jpg

A Montana man was charged with deliberate homicide on Monday, two days after he shot and killed a German exchange student he found in his garage after setting a trap for burglars.

Last week, Markus Hendrik Kaarma and his common-law wife, Janelle Pflager, set the trap in their garage, complete with a surveillance camera and motion sensors, hoping to catch the person Kaarma claims broke into his house multiple times, stealing a cell phone and credit cards. Pflager told police she purposefully left her purse in the garage, with the door open, as bait.

According to an affidavit obtained by the Missoulian, at about 12:30 am Sunday morning, Kaarma heard a noise in his garage.

"He stated he heard a noise that sounded like metal on metal and he was afraid that the intruder would exit the garage and harm him," the affidavit said. "It was dark and he could not see into the garage."

"He stated he thought he was going to die and that the guy would try to get out of the garage, and described thinking he could act like a caged animal. ... He stated he didn't want the male to get away and that he wanted him to be caught. He stated that the police can't catch burglars in the act."

So Kaarma did what any responsible gun owner would do: He sprayed four shots from his shotgun around the garage, striking 17-year-old Dire Dede in the shoulder and head. Dede, who was unarmed, lated died from his injuries.

Kaarma claims he didn't speak with Dede but Pflager, his wife, told police she heard Kaarma say "Hey, hey" as he chambered the shotgun. Pflager also said Dede said "hey" or "wait" before her husband opened fire.

Before the shooting, Kaarma allegedly told his hairstylist that he hoped to shoot the person breaking into his home. "I'm just waiting to shoot some (expletive) kid," Kaarma said, according to the affidavit.

"He told (the stylist) that he had been burglarized a few times, that was why he was waiting up at night to catch someone and shoot them. (She) reported that the defendant was being extremely vulgar and belligerant. She asked the defendant to quit swearing and he said he could say 'whatever the (expletive)' he wanted."
Dede, a German exchange student, was a junior at Big Sky High School, where he was a popular member of the soccer team.

Kaarma's attorney, Paul Ryan, defended his client's actions.

"He took the steps that no one wants to take and shot," Ryan said. "It wasn't his intent to kill because he didn't know who was in there, and where the person was, and what was in the person's hands as far as weapons."

"It was a split second," Ryan said. "It happened very quickly, and unfortunately a young man lost his life."

Prosecutor Andrew Paul disagreed, as did the judge who decided to charge Kaarma.

"The state doesn't believe that Kaarma identified Dede as a threat to commit a forcible felony in the garage," Paul told the Missoulian. "He actually sought Dede out by essentially trapping him in the garage."

Kaarma was released on $30,000 bail.

Nevada Militia Sets Up Armed Checkpoints, Demands to See Drivers' I.D.

[YT]79xKxWbBYcw[/YT]

They came to defend an old cattleman and their principles of life, liberty, and property. But apparently other rightful property owners in rural Nevada don't feel terribly free under the security regime recently built around them by the militiamen protecting rancher Cliven Bundy.

Even though mainstream America was never with him, and the rightward fringes of mainstream America abandoned him after his 48-hour-virus of racial frankness, Bundy is still attended by untold numbers of camouflaged and heavily armed dudes dedicated to continuing "his fight with the government over his refusal to pay fees for his cattle to graze on federal land," the Las Vegas Sun reports.

Weirdly, these jack-booted lugs don't make Bundy's neighbors grateful for their liberty:

A growing number of Bunkerville residents want to see the armed militiamen guarding rancher Cliven Bundy leave Nevada, according to a letter from Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie.

Horsford, whose congressional district includes Bunkerville, wrote that his constituents are concerned about Bundy supporters carrying weapons near local churches, schools and elsewhere...

The letter also says militiamen have a presence on state and local roads as well as federal highways. In some areas, according to the letter, militiamen have set up checkpoints where drivers are stopped and asked to provide a proof of residency.

They've been seen carrying high-caliber weapons and keep a round-the-clock security detail on Bundy.
Because nothing says liberty and freedom like setting up armed checkpoints to verify your residency.

Who are these brave men taking a continued stand against perceived government aggression across an empty expanse of Western desert? Sun photographer Steve Marcus took this stirring photo of one pair of freedom fighters, AR-15s sort-of-but-not-quite at the ready:

701030025094356912.jpg

Marcus' caption:

Reid Hendricks of Camden, Tenn., and Jim (no last name provided) of Las Vegas take up a position on a hill by Cliven Bundy's ranch near Bunkerville on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Hendricks is a former Marine (honorably discharged) and has worked as a police officer and a high school history teacher, he said.
I can't speak for "Jim", but clearly, there can be no better advertisement for the intellectual consistency of your armed anti-government movement than Reid Hendricks, former Marine (honorably discharged), former police officer, and former high school history teacher.

For a bonus, check out the interview above with Cliven Bundy's top militia aide. "One thing I want everybody to know: The character of this man is unmatched," he says of Bundy. "The things that I've heard him say, the private conversations I've had with him, this man is likened to George Washington in my eyes, and I say that as no small statement."

Indeed, it is no small statement.

Watch This Hilarious Argument Over the Legal Definition of Photocopier

[YT]PZbqAMEwtOE[/YT]

You know what a photocopying machine is, I know what a photocopying machine is, but this IT guy has decided he does not. This very real transcript from the Ohio Supreme Court follows seven minutes of absurd yet somehow perfectly logical arguments over what a photocopying machine really is—in legal terms.

Brett Weiner created the video reenactment for the New York Times, but the transcript comes word-for-word from the deposition of an Ohio Supreme Court Case. In 2010, the Cuyahoga County Recorder's Office in Ohio was sued for changing its policies on making documents available to the public. At some point, the county's IT guy was brought in, and they spent 10 minutes going down a legal rabbit hole. Here's a taste of how twisted the conversation gets.

D: When you say "photocopying machine," what do you mean?

PL: Let me be clear. The term "photocopying machine" is so ambiguous that you can't picture in your mind what a photocopying machine is in an office setting?

D: I just want to make sure I answer your question correctly.
He's just trying to get it right, sir! This particular case never went to trial, and it was resolved when the Ohio Supreme Court decided documents should be made public digitally for $1 per CD. Guess no photocopying machines were required after all.

But the legal definition of technology—particularly new technology that defies existing categorizations—underpins many major issues of the day. When it comes to net neutrality, is the internet a public utility or is it an "information service?" And Aereo, which is being challenged in front of the Supreme Court right now—is it acting like a cable company or just a private company that gives you a personal antenna? It isn't always as easy as, "I know it when I see it."

Twerking Suspects Apprehended, Charged With Drug Possession

After a Beaverton, Oregon woman stopped by City Hall to pay a fine, she and two friends were seen twerking outside the building and "exposing themselves." Coura Valzquez, 20, and her two friends are now charged with disorderly conduct.

It gets more ridiculous, though. City Hall employees then saw one member of the twerk team, 20-year-old Brittany Medak, peeing between two parked cars, earning her an additional charge for "offensive littering."

The three women left City Hall in the same vehicle. When police pulled them over in connection with the twerking/public urination incident, they found exactly what you were expecting: Meth! (Plus some bonus weed and a little coke.)

Your move, Florida.

Parents Call Cops to Stop Kids From Handing Out Banned Book

lpugeetbj6vtxa31t46s.jpg

After a group of Idaho parents succeeded in getting a novel pulled from a school's 10th grade curriculum, they called the cops on students who organized to give away copies of the banned book.

Earlier this month, parents convinced Idaho's Meridian school district to ban Sherman Alexie's National Book Award-winning Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian over the objections of 350 students who signed a petition to keep it.

According to the local paper, the Statesman, adults argued at a meeting that the book contains offensive words "we do not speak in our home," while others objected to a "reference to *********ion," and called the book "anti-Christian."

Absolutely True Diary is the story of a teenage boy's experiences transferring from the Spokane Reservation to an all-white high school. It's been widely praised as a frank and honest account of teenage life, dealing with issues like bullying, racism, poverty, and, yes, *********ion. Quelle horreur!

In response to the banning, supporters of the book started a fundraiser to buy a copy of Alexie's novel for each of the 350 teens who wanted to read it. Teaming with local bookshop Rediscovered Bookshop, they handed out 315 copies last week as part of a World Book Night event.

But the giveaway didn't go off without interference. Police arrived after getting a call from "someone concerned about teenagers picking up a copy of the book without having a parent's permission," local news station KBOI reported.

Police talked to student organizer Brady Kissel and found there was nothing wrong with distributing the book.

Now Alexie's publisher, Hatchette, has gotten word of the incident and sent an additional 350 copies to Rediscovered, free to any student who wants one.

Ok what year is this again? Last I checked it was 2014 and you want to ban awarding winning books that may cause your 15 year old to open their mind? I can assure you your child knew about *********ion and bad words before they heard about this book

I remember I had to read a book in English class for grade 10 called not wanted on the voyage about Noahs Ark. It was a less literal and more brutal interpretation. It was violent, insane and pretty scary. Like what they did to one of noahs sons wife (censored for the safety of your sanity) [BLACKOUT] as she was a virgin and they cut off the horn of the unicorn to 'loosen her up'. [/BLACKOUT] I don't remember much about that book but I remember that. Brrrr.

I would have said that was inappropriate but shouldn't have been banned and it really woke some of the kids up who only read light things like comics or small novels.

Man Named Don Popadick Is Arrested for Flashing People in the Park

In Mooney's Bay Park, to be precise. Wait, why are you laughing?

Yes, the celestial orbs appear to be in syzygy this week. After Mooney's park-goers in Ottawa, Canada, complained of an adult male indecently exposing himself on multiple occasions over the past two weeks, the police were on it. They were able to nail the perp yesterday, apparently mid-act, on a park path at 9:00 a.m., according to an Ottawa Police Service press release:

On April 29th, 2014, the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit charged Donald POPADICK, 62 years old, of Ottawa, with Indecent Act and Mischief. He is to appear in court on Wednesday.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 60's, balding with white hair wearing prescription eyeglasses.
Sex crimes are no joke. And obviously, Popadick has a right to remain silent. But if asked about the allegations, I hope Popadick would say: "You gotta do what you gotta do."

Well, this is absolutely terrifying. This helmet cam footage shows a motorcyclist crashing his bike at 140mph, hitting the car in front of him and having his body catapulted and spun for what seems like an eternity on the road. Amazingly, he survived the crash. Incredible. Unbreakable.

And that's why I consider riding a crotch rocket is one of the stupidest things you can do, especially if you don't keep your eyes on the road
