A hero or a "good guy" or a protaginist?
Tbolts may be crazy and homicidal, but their a government sponsered team, who is "supposed" to be acting in accordance with United States policy and objectives..ergo good guys. The are on the same side as the Initiative, and could feasibly fight alongside the Avengers.
I hear what your saying, but short of brainwashing its as close as your gonna get with some of these.
Punisher, Deadpool, Winter soldier etc.. are all what most would consider SUPERHEROs in a novel sense. But they certainly are not your defination of hero.
When guys like Thanos, Doom etc have made the switch..it is more jaded and obscure..quasi-heroish..or even anti-hero...but that makes it more beleivable.
Point is even such borderline transformations of character "count" in terms of their portrayal. Its been done. And that is my point.
Heros as you define them, are in short supply even amoung the superhero class. In fact they are kind of boring.
