Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread

I tend to be interested in what IGN has to say, but Eric and Roth didn't actually HAVE much to say, which is disappointing. I also have to disagree with this idea that borrowing from Superman is somehow a bad thing and is going to end up hurting this show in the long run. If basically being "Superman in a skirt" didn't hurt the character during DC's "Silver Age", why would it hurt her now?

As far as their speculation about Jimmy's character, I don't really see the point of making his traditional portrayal part of his backstory; it's unnecessarily complicating the character with no real reason to do so (IMO, anyway) other than "because that's the way it's always been done".

So Lena Luthor is now Kara's adopted sister but they are calling her Alex for the hell of it. She and her brother have the same name...

I don't see why Jimmy is in this. He's not in character, he may as well be Dick Malverne. And Kara has never been interested in him so that is just a lack of imagination on the writer's part.

Elizabeth Debecki is awesome, but she is being groomed to be the next Cate Blanchett. She has a lot of films offers on the table. It would be cool, but no dice.

Using Jimmy is a good idea imo though changing him to someone he isn't, is not. He has had a crush on Kara in a lot of renditions of the character, and not as if Kara has been interested in that many people anyway.

If anything they should keep Cat and Jimmy working at Daily Planet, have Cat really dislike Supergirl like she has in the comics and run a lot of gossip about her. Have Jimmy try to break into the writing business and not just be Lois Lanes sidekick and have him cover Supergirl.

I sort of wish they could wait a year and see if Claire Holt or Eliza Taylor would be available to play Supergirl, but we'll also see how they show Jimmy Olsen on this show.

I've not brought this up before now even though I've wanted to, but someone on TVLine mentioned that the description of Jimmy as an "alpha male" reminded them of the way the character was portrayed and utilized during the "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen"/"Superman Family" era during the 60s and 70s.

Kara has had plenty of boyfriends they just never stick around. The only one that is consistent is Brainiac 5 who really has to show up at some point. And Kara has never been interested in Alpha males, that was one of the weird bits of the movie. She dates fish boys, part time horses, science nerds, not Abercrombie and Fitch models.

She may crush on Jimmy, but I think she's more likely to end up with Wynn.

DC has been on a roll this fall with revamps of solo female titles like Batgirl and Catwoman, and next week, a new creative team arrives on Supergirl to take Kara Zor-El in a different direction. Kate Perkins joins former Supergirl writer Mike Johnson as co-writer on the title, and their first issue together sees Kara thrown into a new environment as the latest student at Crucible Academy, a school that Johnson describes as “Hogwarts crossed with a Star Destroyer” in an interview with Comic Book Resources.
DC has struggled to find a strong angle for Supergirl in The New 52, most recently playing off her angry teen persona to briefly make her a member of the Red Lanterns. But a change of setting may be just what Kara needs to become a more interesting character. This preview of next week’s issue doesn’t give the character time to catch her breath as she’s mysteriously teleported from Earth to an outer space locale, putting her in the middle of a fight with no prep time. It’s an exciting sequence that poses a lot of questions for the rest of the story, featuring striking art from Emanuela Lupacchino and colorist Hi-Fi.
Luppachino has illustrated issues of Supergirl in the past, and her clean, detailed style brings the cosmic environment to life in these preview pages. More importantly, this preview introduces a new costume for the character, a suit of Kryptonian armor that covers her entire body. It’s a welcome departure from her New 52 redesign, with its strange thigh-high boots (complete with unnecessary knee cut-outs) and awkward red crotch shield. Judging from this preview, this new creative team is making some strong decisions for the character, and hopefully Kara will be joining Barbara Gordon and Selina Kyle as one of DC’s revitalized superheroines.

Art looks great and Ill check it out but I don't know how I feel about DC practically keeping Kara isolated since the new52 began.

SUPERGIRL: MATRIX

What do Supergirl, Lady Quark, and Ambush Bug have in common? Well... nothing really. But that didn't stop us from sticking them in a story together. You are SO welcome.

I really think it would be dumb to not connect Supergirl to Arrow and Flash

No, because they're good and follow the source material pretty closely...

This doesn't sound like it will at all :o

Supergirl is basically going to be a Superman show, and since Arrow and Flash can't have Superman, the "Superman" of their universe should just be Supergirl. Throw in GL and the CWverse has a great alternative Justice League

Supergirl
Arrow
Black Canary
The Flash
Green Lantern

That's hot

it was revealed that The CW had passed on Supergirl, a lot of fans were disappointed as it meant they didn't have an epic "Arrow vs. Flash vs. Supergirl" crossover to look forward to next year! However, KSiteTV have come across a very interesting tidbit in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly which indicates that the three shows will still take place in the same universe and that a crossover is possible! "Later in the afternoon at his other office on the Warner Bros. lot, Berlanti meets with fellow producer Ali Adler and Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood to go over looks for their upcoming revamp of Supergirl. The show will follow 24-year-old Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, and with a twist that that could melt fanboy brains, Berlanti says it's possible this Supergirl could enter the worlds of Arrow and The Flash." Greg Berlanti is a producer on both Arrow and The Flash, and is developing Supergirl at CBS with No Ordinary Family's Ali Adler. If anyone knows about the possibility of a crossover, it's him, so start getting excited! What would you guys like to see from a crossover between the three?

And Oliver suddenly becomes even more outmatched that he already was.

Oliver will be fine. The only thing that bugs me about the whole situation is that Supergirl will debut before Superman.
