Just wondering why there is so much hatred from Superman fans against Supergirl?
As a massive Superman fan myself, Supergirl was a movie I always loved as a child.
Even watching it today I still enjoy it, the flying sequences look good and not to mention Helen Slater looks Hot and plays Supergirl really well.
I just hope with the release of Superman Returns, that Supergirl finally gets the respect I think it deserves. :D

Well, I too have recently had the privilege of watching this movie and though Helen Slater plays Supergirl well and the flying scenes look quite good, the plot is way too weak. I mean, Selina knowing about the phantom zone was certainly inexplicable and so was the whole witch thing, I mean who in her right senses would want to be a witch and dream of ruling the world without anything to suggest they could ever. Moreover, the acting seemed way over the top. The movie was not too bad but basically it lacked the emotional depth that STM had and the treatment was campy.

Word. I loved a lot of the sequences in the film, but the worst thing about the film was Faye Dunaway for me. She just overacted to the point of nausea. I've reviewed the film a few times and came up with ideas for a cut that would help to remove some of her awful dialogue passages. The strange thing is that she only acts badly in the scenes where she's acting all tough and throwing her weight around.

Didn't the opening credits cost like $1 million or something becuase they used real silver?

Exactly. As for the acting, I can think of that guy in the movie that Selina kidnaps, if I remember correctly, his acting was really bad.

Your memory's good Metropolis Man. He definitely walked away with the worst acting honors. I don't want to be harsh but it was a surprise to see such an average actor making it to a big budget movie as Supergirl, where had all the good actors gone, were they locked away in the phantom zone?

Helen Slater was a smoking hot Supergirl as well as a sympathetic, but the execution of the plot wasn't very good and the the villainesses were not especially impressive. The Phantom Zone looked cool though.

I liked it at the time but it really didn't have much substance or character.

I actually wanna seen this movie now. I have seen Superman 1-4. 4 was ok. 3 was pretty good. and 1 and 2 were phenominal.

How can you hate someone as cute as this -

Good stuff:

- Theme tune
- Opening credits
- Helen Slater
- Flying effects
- Supergirl is really put thru the wringer, she has to do a lot to be victorious at the end of the film

Bad stuff:

- The bad guys. All of them.
- Lack of action
- Heavy influence of 80's girly fantasy movies
- Slow and dull in parts
- Ridiculously minor conflict; Supergirl and the villainess are basically fighting over a man

why can't i find any pics of the alternate costume they had (super '80s)??? They use to be really easy to google.... not so anymore. :(

I enjoyed it too!
But next time I’d really like Christina Aguilera taking on this role before she's too old
Cause no one wants to see an over 25 years old hag playing a super heroine!
Specially a scantily clad one such as wonder woman!

Damn, i forgot how HOT she was. A great looking supergirl (and gotta love the outfit)

This got me thinking that i'd actually like to see a supergirl movie (not coz i'm a perv - though, that's part of the reason hehe).

To be frank, this film did have some good moments, but overall, the film was poor. But, I feel a Supergirl film has potential (everything has potential when done right). The costume from Supergirl 84 should be kept (in terms of design), but tweaked for today.

That's just me. I just want to see Superman and Supergirl fight each other (for whatever reason), and see them on screen. That's a slight regreat about the old Super-man/girl films (besides Supes 1 and 2)... and that is Christopher Reeve and Helen Slater never appeared on screen together as their respected characters.

I remember my parents taking me and my sister (perfect movie to bring both of us to, me for the comic stuff, my sister for the girly stuff) to see this in the theaters, don't remember much beyond the phantom zone stuff. I tried to Netflix it, but they don't have it.

Supergirl Movie - Why so much hatred?

{the bad}
(1) the villainess was Pathetic.

(2) The storyline of The omegahedron[that powers Argo City] was bull****

(3) Jimmy Olsen wasted, What was the point of bringing Jimmy into the movie. If he wasn't even the love intrest of Supergirl .

(4) The love intrest Ethan [stupid]

{The Good}
still2.jpg

Helen Slater as Kara Zor-EL/ Supergirl - her preformance was good, even thought the storyline and movie was a load of Bull .

Superman was suppose to have a cameo in Supergirl but Reeves didnt want to do it. Woudve been grea to see the two together. Hopefully we will get a remake of Supergirl on the big screen one day, and tie into Superman Returns

The movie sucked...........plain and simple.

At times, though, I felt like I was a high hippie with some of the music and visuals going on. It was..........well.......it was actually pretty groovy.

I thought it was ok, the villain sucked tho.

It ranks up there with MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. It's a 4th rate snorefest.

I love Supergirl from STAS/JLU. I'd love to see a film based off of that character. I also like the new Supergirl in the comics and the approach they did.

However, my favorite interpretation of her is from STAS/JLU. This is how I envision Supergirl when I think of her.

However, with the idea that Jason is Superman's son, it's unlikely they will eventually go the Supergirl route. It's rather disappointing, but I guess this is what Singer felt he needed to do with regard to making Jason Superman's son.
