Honestly, the satire on here goes too far, IMO. Yeah, the movie is mostly hated, but does it need 5 pages of mockery ever day?

i agree

if snyder hands us material like the spear thing i’m all for it but after 2 years since BvS and him getting kicked a year ago sometimes the spam is too much

I thought the spear was used to confirm that Jesus was dead (due to suffocation). Not to actually kill him.
Looking forward to see how The Church of Snyder is gonna explain this.

Cool.

I see.

I thought Snyder just liked spears (there was that one article where it was said, I think). Sometimes people just give answers that try to sound deep when they're not needed. I mean just saying "Because I like it this way" is good enough.

i thought he was just copying excalibur and bruce didn’t want to use guns/bullets, i was fine with it

Yeah, we totally need a new solo Batman or even Superman film, so we can move on from the DCFU unholy trilogy. Shazam or Wonder Woman films can compensate when the icons are ruined.

Heh. I'm sure they'll find a way.

i thought he was just copying excalibur and bruce didn’t want to use guns/bullets, i was fine with it

I don't know. I just remember that one article about him liking spears and skulls or something like that. I had imagined that was why he gave Robin (Jason? Dick?) not just some kind of special Bo staff, but a spear to fight crime. Had me thinking of Robin just slicing and stabbing people all around the streets of Gotham. Simply because he thinks spears are cool, I guess. :woot:

I personally think Superman should be handed over to atheists as soon as possible. The religious get all teary-eyed over the Christ comparison and lose all perspective on the character.

Trying not to be controversial here, but I wouldn't mind someone who knows Christ well enough that they can't get the two confused.

I thought the spear was used to confirm that Jesus was dead (due to suffocation). Not to actually kill him.

Case in point. The story of Jesus has never been in sync with Superman, but because often times all people, even religious people, know of the story is the imagery, that is all that's lifted. Surprise, surprise, it does not vibe and makes no sense. It's the equivalent of heavily referencing Lord of The Rings after having only looked at fan art.

When... hell, if we ever see Superman on the big screen again, I hope to God that they drop the Jesus allegory stuff already. The only time I ever want to see that again is if they attempt a Kingdom Come movie. Other than that, just let Superman be Superman for f*** sake.

Yeah, leave Jesus alone. I was already sick of it by the end of MoS, and it's still going. Batman created a spear because he wanted to check if Superman is dead after what the writers and the director did to him.

So the last 11 out of 12 MCU movies if you add BP, are in the Top 50 most successful movies since 2013.

Forgot about DS.

So only 1 out of the 5 DCEU films and only 1 out of the 5 X-Men movies released since 2013 was in the top 50.

Really important stuff.

.

No, no. That's entirely fair enough, and a good point too. Just have someone make a Superman film who understands that he isn't some kind of analogy for Jesus Christ, whether they be atheist or Christian. I just want to move away from such a lazy, lazy depiction.

Superman should be presented as the ultimate immigrant - because that's exactly what he is. And that's a characterisation that I think would send a very strong message in today's political climate.

Honestly, the satire on here goes too far, IMO. Yeah, the movie is mostly hated, but does it need 5 pages of mockery ever day?

Given that there's a 20 page lovefest going on every day over in the JL forums still, I think it's okay to do 5 of mockery over here :woot:

Oh for the love of God, Zack Snyder does not understand Batman AT ALL.

He isn't permanently in mental anguish that needs booze and sex to assuage it... the whole point of him is that he has taken that pain and channelled it into something constructive. That's the essence of Batman. It's what makes him a hero. He deals with his pain by helping other people and stopping criminals.

Is Snyder so bleak and cynical in his world view that he can't possibly understand how someone could take something bad, and turn it into something good?

I'm actually surprised neither Man of Steel or Batman v Superman are up there. Interesting list though, never would've expected It to be so high. Same for Minions, but then again, they're merchandising fiends.

Yep. The list tells its own story but BP, IW and Avengers 4 are going to give the MCU films a serious boost, ignoring whatever the other films in between might do.

Profit, not box office take  They both took a fair amount of cash, but neither were very profitable. The roi wasn’t great.

But there's already a girl in the bed and with all the alcohol on the nightstand it's easy to see that he has several vices. Putting a Mapplethorpe just because he liked to shoot nudes, doesn't elevate the scene.

I knew the box office didn't do crap for either of them, but I didn't click on the link so I wasn't sure if any of the merchandise or sponsors were accounted for either.

Quiet embarrassing for WB that neither movie is on that list. Also pretty embarrassing for Sony that the most profitable superhero in the world only appears for a movie they didn't really make.

Snyder is really religious (raised Christian scientist), so none of this surprises me.

The incredibly boring Superman as Christ analogy fails on multiple levels, and it always has.

I personally think Superman should be handed over to atheists as soon as possible. The religious get all teary-eyed over the Christ comparison and lose all perspective on the character.
As a Christian I can say that this isn't something I would ever want. And I think it's blasphemous too. Why would this be something that's applied? Superman is an alien and nothing else.

You gotta give Zaddy credit for his "never say die" attitude. Most directors of films that receive the critical drubbing BvS received silently lick their wounds, provide mea culpas along the lines of "I just didn't come together the way we had hoped" and then never speak of it again while moving onto future projects. Two years later he's still pushing the film that killed the DCEU as a misunderstood masterpiece. If grit and determination count for anything, he'll get his wish someday!

Reminds me of Clark having conversation with a priest with a giant image of Jesus (Agony in the Garden?) in the background. Get it? Get it?
