But thats the problem. They approached Co-op as an add on to Single player, rather than designing it around it. Massive oversight.

well I think focus on single player should come first, before co op. The meat of the game is and always has been the competitive play but they need to give something worthwile for those who dont play online. Co op should only come after these two have been polished and done right. Personally, it was no big loss for me

Most definitely. I hate it when the single-player campaign was obviously designed for more than one person.

Also, I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Spec-Ops has been widely praised as being really innovative for cooperative gameplay.

IA. It feels more like an expansion to me and I dont see it as GOTY. It hasnt wowed or impressed me nearly as much as the first one did

Given the games success the fast food mentality will probably get worse. Probably be a boon of military arcade shooters too.
Personally, I dread to see the next Ghost Recon game will be like.

Spec ops should hardly be widely praised... its just a tacked on challenge mode, that is hardly ground breaking. Also, the single player story was hardly designed solely for one person. There was always a second person with you at all times anyway, so I dont see how it would have changed things, and i've already said in other discussions how shallow and light on story I think the actual campaign was anyway. If it was co-op it would at least give me a reason to replay it.

Gametrailers.com voted MW2 for best PS3, 360 and GOTY.

The only exclusives listed in the PS3 and 360 categories were Uncharted 2 and GTA respectively.

It's weird because they have been giving Demon Souls a lot of love, but it wasn't even nominated for the PS3.

Yeah, I was completely let down when I saw GT's PS3/GOTY awards.

MW2 is good and all, but it's a campagin mode that doesn't match up to the original, and is arguably (and amazingly) shorter, and an unchagned online mode. Spec ops is the only thing that make me happy I bought the game.

You've........played the game right?

Yeah, obviously it was a bit of an exaggeration, and the online is still great. But not much has actually been done to it past the conventional (maps, kills streaks etc). Not that I'm saying I know how they would improve it much exactly, it's just it's not a risk taker or anything. Uncharted 2 built a whole online game that's arguably as addictive as CoD. I just feel when you look at the 2 games on the whole, Naughty Dog did so much more with their franchise for the sequel than IW did with theirs.

Plus the actual story of the campaign is awful.

MAJOR SPOILER][blackout]The thing I hate the most was you go with Makarov to shoot the civilians in the airport. Then he kills you. He's built up to be this super villain you can't wait to kill. But then then they have Shepard betray you for some reason I can't remember and he becomes your enemy.[/blackout]

I haven't touched MW2 since I started Uncharted 2. I probably wouldn't have even bought it if I had Uncharted 2 first.

You didn't like the story? I thought it was fine.
Shepard was angry over the u.s. soldiers that were killed in the first game, thanks to the attack, he now will have a huge supply of soldiers.

All the stories in just about all the CoD's have sucked, imo. God bless Infinity Ward, they are responsible for some of the best FPS gameplay to date, but those guys are not story tellers. None of their stuff has been very memorable.

Well I think it's safe to say that MW 2 is definitely not GOTY material... I mean with the average single player, Multiplayer is the only thing it really has going for it as a substantial game, and the only difference between MW 1 Multiplayer and MW 2 multiplayer are maps and a few new weapons/perks. Now, are those perks/weapons/maps really SO good that they completely negate UC 2 or AC 2 or B: AA as fresh, original games?

My opinion of games I played this year....

Mirror's Edge: A somewhat fun game introducing parkour in the first-person mode, but it's nowhere near game of the year material. The single-player was fun and so were some extras, but that was it. One playthrough and you're pretty much done. 6/10

Killzone 2: A fun, worthy sequel, but still nothing to really write home about. I beat the single-player once and played online for a few days or so, but that was it. 7/10

Resident 5: I didn't really care for it. It was fun, sure, but it doesn't come close to its predecessor. I don't know, it just didn't do it for me. 6.5/10

Infamous: Another popular, acclaimed game I didn't care for. The game's story and presentation was adequate at best, and I didn't care much for the gameplay, too. Beat the game and traded it back in. 6/10

Batman: Arkham Asylum: Definitely the greatest comic book game of all-time, but that's not saying much. Regardless, a very fun game with a great voice-cast(?), even if it was short. 8/10

Assassin's Creed II: I didn't care for the game at first, but now I'm totally into it. A sequel that's superior in just about every way. 9/10

Modern Warfare 2: A sequel that may be inferior in a few aspects, but still very fun. Improved graphics and multiplayer modes can't be ignored, I definitely lost a few hours of sleep each night. Though, the game's incredibly short campaign really brings the game down for me. It was enjoyable, no doubt, but I found it limping throughout, especially compared to its predecessor. 8.5/10

Uncharted 2: Without a doubt, the greatest game of the year. Another great story with the same -- and new -- memorable characters, but not bogged down by tedious cliches. Another sequel this year that's better than the original in just about every way. Not to mention the game's beautiful graphics and incredibly fun multiplayer modes. Every PS3 owner needs to own this. 10/10

Sorry for all the typos and run-ons; it's late.:o

At least a PS3 exclusive won it and they nominated 3.

START CARING YOU HEARTLESS MONSTER!!! :cmad:

I think alot of game reviewers are simply biased these days, IGN especially... Too many reviewers putting their personal preference first, rather than giving you an impartial impression of how worthwhile a game is. These days, the only reviews I tend to take any stock of are the independent websites like geekactually, because they actually recognise all the hypocritical ******** in the gaming industry.

Eh, I think the idea of an "impartial review" is kind of a fallacy. I'm not even sure I would want such a thing.

I think the number rating system is a really flawed concept (as in 5 stars or something out of 10). I might give Gta IV a 9 out of 10, and I might give AC 2 an 8 out of 10, but it doesn't mean I enjoyed one over the other, thats just a ranking based on the production values, graphics, sounds so on. I think it implies that certain games are better than others... There are so many games that get dismissed because of an average score like a 7, but still have many great, unique gameplay features that are worth applauding... I'd much prefer game reviews without a numbered score.
