Am I the only one who thinks of Skyrim fans to pretty much look like this?

But even lamer? I'm sorry to offend you guys but Skyrim really feels like a typical "turn off the lights and turn into an antisocial 12-year old" game. You know, like the most addicted WoW gamers who just can't behave like normal people.

I HATE those kind of people and those kind of games. So I really hope Skyrim won't win the official GOTY award. Attack me now for all you want, this is what I think.

Wow, welcome to Lame Stereotyping 101. :whatever:

It's no surprise or secret that Arkham City is going to win the forum GOTY....a superhero game on a superhero website.

I just wish people would be objective and wait until around Christmas and give a few of the other high profile games yet to be released a try before making their final decision. We still don't know whether these games will turn out to be masterpieces or massive junk.

I predict this will be SHH! GOTY 2009 thread all over again with Batman winning it.
One thing to consider is that this is a superhero forum, so most of the people here will already have a preference to something comic book related, especially to the most popular character, Batman. So to Batman fans, while AC was a really great game, to them its even better because its a really great Batman game. So I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people vote for it here. But I would be upset if it wins the real vote.

LOL, for some reason everytime I see or watch something about Skyrim, I can't help but think of Dungeons and Dragons, which is something I never got into but heard that its one of those traits/hobbies that define the stereotypical vision of a geek.

But yeah I've never been into those kinds of mythological fantasy games so I can't really get behind what all the hype is. But I should be getting the game in the mail and I'll see if I can put the context of the game behind me and see if there's some fun to be had with the actual gameplay, even though I've yet to see something to turn me onto the game aside from curiosity.

I think part of the reason why people are not going to be as objective is because this thread was made a bit prematurely, since there a still a bunch of highly anticipated games that have yet to be released. But we already had a GOTY discussion thread, but now by starting a new one with a poll, its sort of asking people to make a decision right now, which really is unfair.

I heard Greg Miller from IGN make a good point about how he thinks the voting will go and why he thinks Skyrim will win, and its because the voters will away for break and will have time to play and finish most games like Arkham City and Uncharted, but they will still be playing Skyrim because it demands a lot of hours. So by the time they vote, since they'll still be playing Skyrim (assuming they like it), they will have that more fresh in their minds as opposed to a game that came out a month ago, or even several months ago like Portal 2. I kinda agree with that thinking because its true how your latest memories surpass that the more distant ones. Like I loved inFamous 2, but I didn't remember how much until I went to play Festival of Blood and was reminded at how fun it was since the game came out in June and I've played many more fun and entertaining games since.

Steven Hawking can only type 3 words a minute with almost all his muscles closed down along with the threat of premature death. He has strung together on a daily basis chains of complicated mathetical equations in his head most people couldn't put to paper, came up with the big bang theory and with what remains of his dwindling life, attempts to discover the theory of everything. Aside from leaving the ABC school of trolling, what have you done lately?

@WAYCS: I just took two pictures of how I picture WoW and Skyrim gamers, nothing against him, I'm aware of his greatness. But you should get my point. You're stupid if you actually think that I think he is one of those stupid gamers. It's a picture of what a typical WoW/Skyrim player looks like to me. Yes, just a picture.

And me thinking that is not trolling. But I see you took that very personal.

@cherokeesam: Thank you!

@WAYCS: I just took two pictures of how I picture WoW and Skyrim gamers

You picture them to look like Chris Farley and Steven Hawking. Therefor, he would enjoy Skyrim if he could move right. That's your logic, not mine. It's outragous. This is not a bad 80's movie in which the geek will over-come the handsome jerk to take the girl to the prom while Olivia Newton John plays in the backround.

Just because I picture gamers to look like that (and behave in a way that I don't think those ACTUAL geniouses (sp?) do) doesn't mean that all people who look like that are like those antisocial gamers. You get what I mean now?

Ridiculous. You can't blame Skyrim for offering way more content than most console games released this year. And it's playing more off of the ever-popular Lord of the Ring's franchise success more than it is WoW's.

A 'turn off the lights and turn into an antisocial 12-year old' game? If there's a released this year along these lines, it's Modern Warfare 3. What are you willing to bet causes the bigger social problem, Skyrim's one-off 30 - 50 hour affair or the hundreds upon hundreds of hours people have been sinking into the CoD franchise since 4's release? THAT's the closest thing to the WoW experience on consoles, not a single-player RPG.

Cool, judging a game not based on the game but on superficial prejudice of what you think its fans look like... which is a stereotype from the past decade. Hahah I should be surprised but I'm really not. Enjoy hearing 10 year old white kids yell, "I banged ur mom last night, n**ga!" In Modern Warfare 3, and the illusion of extended play time hunting for collectibles in Arkham City lmao.

I didn't only mention the looks. More the behavior of typical fantasy rpg gamenerds :)

And for your information, I'm not a pro-MW3 either. Those MW3 kids are even more annoying IMO.

Which still has nothing to do with the game, and that behaviour is actually a testament to just how great a game it is since it doesn't rely on the bulls**t reward system of WoW. Oblivion and Fallout 3 have both eaten up at least 1000 hours of my life easily. When not a single second of that time was boring I gotta scoff at anyone brushing off an Elder Scrolls game because it's a fantasy RPG in the vein of D&D.

Either ways, high five!

It's too late for apologies...
You'v soiled yourself as well as this thread with your prejudice. That halo person is right, you aren't talking about the overrated game, you are talking about the people who play it in a negative connotation.

Lets end this right now. Everyone get back on topic, please.

Game of the year is without a doubt Zelda followed closely by Batman.

Almost voted battlefield 3. But arkham city is so great

Personally, I'd still go with Uncharted 3. But from what I've been hearing and reading, I expect Skyrim to win, I wouldn't be to surprised to see Uncharted 3 win, and I'd be a little more surprised to see Skyward Sword win. I'm a little close to knocking Arkham City out of contention since I'd be very surprised to see that take the prize. Also, I feel like Portal 2 will also get some high praise even though it was released much earlier in the year than the other big name games.

I'm still in the middle of it, but Skyrim is being pretty awesome right now. This may change things...

Anybody ever hear of the Game Critics Awards? It's voted on by pretty much all the major game publications (IGN, GameTrailers, Game Informer, etc...). They've been doing Best of E3 Awards since 1998 but GOTY since only 2007. Their past GOTYs have included BioShock, Fallout 3, Uncharted 2, and Red Dead. They also rank the top 10 games each year.

Arkham City is my second favourite game of all time, so yeah, it's my GOTY.

I feel comfortable 40+ hours into Skyrim to put together my top 5:

I love that we've had the kind of year that I can completely agree with UpsetSpidey's list and yet my personal top 5 will probably look almost entirely different.

I like that list, Altho I'd put Dead Space 2 in the spot where Portal is and add Uncharted to the list.

I have to wonder if those bagging on Skyrim have actually tried it out? I definitely don't fit the stereotype. I never had much interest in Role Playing Games. Too much technical **** to deal with as far as I was concerned. The closest game I ever tried in the genre prior to Skyrim was Fable II. I tried the first Fable when it came out, but never finished it. Fable II got more things right in reducing the geeky number calculating and just focused on trying not to remind you it's a video game all the time. Skyrim's world does that.

I prefer my super hero simulators. Spiderman 2 is what truly sealed me as a gamer. Just the idea of being able to go all over New York City from earth to sky and out to the Statue of Liberty was so much what I had always wanted as a gaming experience. I just want to go some where else for a while. I went on to GTA because the quality in the development of the game was evident. It went to the lengths I wish they would with Spiderman.

I rented Skyrim on a whim from a Red Box. Something about the equivalent of having a Dragon fly over in the sky above Liberty City just drew me. It came down to how immersive it is. I haven't played much, but the world in that game is just massive and at times a bit stunning. My housemate, who NEVER plays games and never did until he tried Fable. He tried my rented Skyrim and promptly went out and got his own XBox and purchased Skyrim. He emerges from the lands only to attend work and nature calls. I'm seeng it all over the internet. Everyone is spendng more time exploring the in-game world than staying on story course. So much of what I loved about Red Dead Redemption exists in this magical world. Both have bunny rabbits that romp in front of you....Grizzlies that may charge at you....Giants that will stomp down on the path after you... fire breathing dragons that are flying in the sky above you when you least expect it. Hey, I'm open minded... and it gets old playing just another human being who goes around shooting people and stealing cars. I want super powers, dammit.

Arkham City was a great experience. I do agree, though, in that I also found Arkham Asylum to be more enjoyable. It was a bit more closed-in and platformy than I like, but the overall experience with Scarecrow really kicked that game to the top in overall best in-game experiences. Arkham City just takes everything that drove that game and Super-Sized it. Anyway, is it really that much geekier when it's a show down between the supposed RPGamer stereotype and the guy who goes all over Arkham City collecting every trophy... solving every riddle?

This thread shouldn't exist until January.
