So...wait... GB picked Borderlands GOTY edition as 2010's GotY?

.....Really?

I think that category is for 2009 games that get re-released in 2010. Its not overall goty.

It's basically just awarding a game from the previous year the GB crew played a ton of this year. For instance, Fallout 3 was 2009's 2008 Game of the Year.

Red Dead swept the Gamespot awards pretty handily and ME2 did the same over at Gametrailers.

It seems like these two games are pretty much just hogging all the awards this year.

They deserve it. Although I have a hard time picking either.

I'm not a big sci-fi guy but I really don't like western stuff, so I was very torn between which one I liked. Game-wise they are both brilliant but I found myself enjoying ME2 a little more.

I REALLY hate westerns.

How can you be a full blooded American male and hate westerns?! As much as I like RDR Mass Effect 2 was near perfect, IMHO.

1) Who said I was American? :p (I am, I'm just wondering how you came to that conclusion)

2) I don't know. I TRY to like RDR but I find it hard. When it works, RDR is ****ing AWESOME! Like I said though, it's very well made. I don't like it on a personal level

Well, technically I wasn't concluded as I asked how could you be American and hate westerns... leaving room for you to be another Nationality....

To many to name just one. Mass Effect 3, Batman: AC, Elder Scrolls V and Uncharted 3.

I also added "best platformer" and changed Adventure to Action/Adventure for my list.

Please be specific.
Im assuming you've never played it? Theres absolutely no game on the market like it. The closest was Indigo Prophecy, made by the same developers, years ago, but HR expands and improves upon that game in every way. Its plays out like an interactive movie and I beleive the developers wanted to create their own gaming genre with this. Id love it if other developrs were to follow and create non-traditional games like this. Here's a gameplay clip of one section. Warning it does contain spoilers

I have. Which is why I am puzzled whenever anybody brings it up as innovative.

Its plays out like an interactive movie

An adventure game designed with buttons instead of point and click was how it played to me. Quick time triggers, multiple branching paths, cut-scenes, player/NPC dialogue have all existed and been used within them. About the only thing that I would consider as even remotely close to innovative is a lack of puzzles (although the actual definition of puzzles is vague in itself so it could actually quality in that regard also) which some adventure games were pretty much already devoid of anyway. The voice acting and story weren't exceptional either. Multiple controllable characters in a single over-arching story have also been done in adventure games.

In my books, for the game to be play out like an "interactive movie" the entire thing would have to be a movie, which it isn't.
Besides, Dragon layer already done that.

the developers wanted to create their own gaming genre with this.

I don't see how they have done anything that hasn't been done before.
That seems kiinda pretentious to me.

It looks like an adventure game.

This one also had multiple branching paths with 12 endings, depending oh who does what, who lives and who dies, it came out in 1997.

Yeah, Heavy Rain is just a modern take on the adventure game genre.
