I’m guessing we’re about the same age. The only thing about that Superman toy was the cape was too easy to lose.

It was! Yeah they hadn’t quite figured out capes for action figures back then. Still a great looking figure though. I really loved the Red S shield.

Fingers crossed it passes BvS domestic by the beginning of next week.
I'm sure it will. The movie's going to comfortably outgross BVS, Aquaman and Joker domestically by the end of its run.

Warner Bros. definitely needs to work on its International marketing and rollout strategy , though, I belive. They've had a string of huge domestic hits now that didn't quite make the same impact overseas (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Twisters, Sinners). And no, I'm not taking China and the likes into account.

(Superman is doing much better than those titles overseas though)

I'm not sure what WB can do overseas, outside of waiting for the tide to turn back in their favor. The truth is a lot of their IPs skew to the US and right now is a rough environment OS for superhero flicks. They should just concentrate on making really good movies.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Twisters, Sinners and Superman are all very different movies.

And I'm not talking about messing with the movies themselves, but about a revision of their marketing and rollout strategies overseas.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: A sequel to a movie that did 74m domestic and 11m OS.

Twisters: A sequel to a disaster movie from the 90s, set in the rural US. While the original film was more split WW, the legacy of the original is far more in the US then outside it.

Sinners: A period piece about the black American experience, set in the south.

Superman: Literal Americana, in a genre that is struggling OS. As seen by all three Marvel releases this year.

What about WB's OS marketing do you think is an issue?

Marketing can only do so much. 3 of those are very, very american centered movies, which makes their appeal difficult to sell overseas. Trying to sell a sequel to a film most overseas have never heard about is a rough job. And WB does fine internationally. Just look at GxK, Dune, and Minecraft. Granted, those are Legendary productions, but the point remains. "Marketing" is not some magic process.

And it’s also no surprise why F1 or James Bond do much better OS than Domestic. Just look at this split.

Yeah, good point. They have some doing really well OS. Even Superman is doing decently. If China, South Korea, and Russia were in the same shape they were pre pandemic and the illegal invasion, Superman would probably be looking at 800m easily. A three Marvel movies would've had another 100-150m as well.

Anyone else totally irritated with Matt Reeves and how his snail's pace messes up matters with the DCU (since we can't have two Batman movies in the same year), and also did so with the DCEU? I wish it was integrated or not done at all.

Nope. Also not sure what this has to do with Superman's box office.

Nope. Especially since we know there were personal reasons.

Getting a DCU that isn't immediately dominated by Batman should really be seen as a stroke of luck rather than a setback. The only reason the DCU is Superman centric right out the gate was having to navigate and co-exist with an already proven Batman franchise. Other characters will get the spotlight and then, honestly, I think it'll probably be more exciting for people to have to be patient with getting to their Batman down the line.

And, also, even if I don't personally like the way Superman is an allegory about Gunn's personal history I appreciate that it is a personal story. If you were a huge Superman '25 fan I feel like it'd be better to focus on wanting more stories like that, regardless of whether or not they have the exact same brand label on them.

You act like they had a DCU batman script ready to shoot that they pushed back.

Batman is by far my favourite character, but I'm more than happy to wait for the DCU iteration. I'll be the first in line for a DCU Batman movie in the future, but until then I'll happily devour any content with other characters. It's hard not to be excited given how rich the history of DC is and how many unique characters exist within it.

I wish I could like this post twice.
