My one little request to Tyler: hit the gym. You had the excuse of being a mere guest star with no prep time before, but that excuse is out the window now. Part of being the lead in a Superman property is being in Superman shape! Not asking for anything too crazy, just get back to your Teen Wolf build and you’re golden.
EXACTLY with the s-curl because we can not see the difference between Clark and Superman because of their hairstyle and he has to get bigger INDEED

He doesn’t NEED to get much bigger and have the S curl. Those are superficial things that don’t in anyway effect his performance. What’s they are are things people want not necessities.

I gotta ask… what’s your standard for comparison? Because if it’s against something like Mr. Robot, then I concede. Yes, Mr. Robot is superior television - by far. But if it’s against the rest of the Arrowverse - which currently ranges between tedious and near-unwatchable (*coughSupergirl*:ninja:) - then I’m finding Batwoman to be a breath of fresh air.

By my standards of the Arrowverse, BW has been by far the most plodding and “near-unwatchable” thus far. Even against S1 of Supergirl (which I myself have described as near-unwatchable). Different strokes.

Also, have you not read Superman Rebirth? It’s hard for me to imagine someone being so against the basic concept of this show or finding that concept a drag or a hindrance if they had experienced that gem of a series with this exact premise.

This. And Ruby Rose's acting is wooden. BW seems the most like a breath of stale air.

Weirdly I think she’s fine as Batwoman but as Kate Kane she struggles to get through scenes. She does this weird thing where it’s like she’s talking through her teeth.

It’s funny aswell cause I was all set to defend Batwoman cause I think it’s been great so far (mostly thanks to Alice) but this week’s was so bad.

I have a similar thinking. I thought it's Pilot was the least of DC tv pilots I've seen. Like I at least thought the Birds Of Prey tv Pilot was, while maybe more inconsistent in writing, had more engaging elements in acting, actors and story elements. Ironic considering Rachel Skarsten was in that too. I realized some of my issues about Batwoman, to me the more prominent characters are mostly bland.

Kate
Sophie
Jacob

Meanwhile I at least see more active performances in Alice, Mary and Luke. Even in this past episode with Julia Pennyworth, Alfred's daughter. Even Mary's mom.

It doesn't help that I think the character archetypes and stories of Kate, Sophie and Jacob are essentially weaker versions of characters other Arrowverse shows have done better. Not to mention our sixth active Arrowverse love triangle is ugh. I thought it was wearing thin in Supergirl s1 and 3 and Arrow s3.

Just out of curiosity, would you guys prefer for the producers to keep Jon Kent at his current natural age (he should be almost two years by the time the series starts) or for them to use some plot device that ages him into an adolescent right off from the beginning?

I’ve long theorised he’s gonna get aged up in Crisis & play the “Alexander Luthor” role from the comics. So I’m sticking to that prediction, I think the show would benefit if he was older too.

Pagey did say he’s been heating murmurs of them casting a 14-15 year old for the role for the show so maybe he’ll be 12-14 in age on the show.

I maintain that Rose is quite serviceable in the lead role. But in any case, I think the importance of “great performance” in these types of shows is overstated. For instance, you could easily convince me that Benoist is the Meryl Streep of the Arrowverse; she’s a very talented lady. But thespian proficiency can’t save bad writing. Indeed, it’s almost distracting to see tour de force acting wasted on ham-fisted dialogue in a dumb scene. (Witness, for instance, Benoist and McGrath’s FoS scene in the recent “Tremors.” :ebr:) IOW, I’ll take serviceable acting and better writing over an Emmy-worthy performance and crappy writing.

And Batwoman is better written. At least so far. Who knows what a hypothetical second season will bring? The Arrowverse series tend to devolve into convolutions in short order.

No, haven’t read it. Same premise you say. But does it focus on Clark (Superman) and Lois (still a star investigative reporter) raising a newborn? Or has Jon Kent been “aged” up to a kind of Superboy; and is the story really about him?

It’s REALLY about them, and Supes himself doing superheroing is still absolutely central to the story, but yes, Jon’s a little older, and Supes just trying to be a good husband and father is a big part of it. But it’s one of the best Superman runs of all-time. I don’t think you’ll find many Supes fans who would argue against that.

What is DC's obsession with putting various characters (Both Superboys and even Superman in an origin arc) in blue jeans? Is there some mandate from the higher ups that members of the Superman family half-ass their costumes?

Well, Re-birth had Superman, Lois, and Jon going to another Earth because of a Crisis Event destroying their Earth, but there is already the New 52 Superman there and active, so Superman stays in hiding for a while, helping here and there, as Jon grows. Lois writes but under a pen name because there is already a Lois Lane on that Earth. So if they follow Re-birth, Earth-38 may get the Earth 2 treatment in CoIE.

After building a whole arc around Sophie knowing Kate's batwoman and then having her tell Jacob only to I think undo both in the same episode. And having things like Jacob's wife apparently tampering with evidence and the there being seemingly no legal repercussions. And Kate blaming Jacob for thinking Beth was dead based on discovered bone evidence. I don't see this being particularly better written.

By better writing, I don’t mean that Batwoman is devoid of the standard superhero tropes and conceits. Thus, for example, there’s the typical suspicion of the hero’s true identity - followed by some subterfuge that reveals this (actually correct) suspicion to be “false.” This gimmick has occurred about a gazillion times in the comics and at least a few in the Arrowverse. I’m just saying that Batwoman handled it in a relatively interesting way. And I credit that to the writing.

Of course, you’re allowed to claim that these tropes - just by their very presence - are indicative of bad/hackneyed writing. But if you do that, you pretty much indict the entire genre - not just Batwoman.

LOL I haven't seen the show but is it like what Willa Holland used to do on Arrow? I remember the first few seasons of that show, she'd do this weird thing where she'd like, grit her teeth while saying her lines. It was really distracting.

Yeah it’s exactly like that haha

Tyler definitely needs a suit similar to Routh's for the series, it would be nice to somehow Superman KC since he is the quintessential Superman the classic will pass the witness to Tyler's Superman before he dies and that would make Tyler change the suit.

What if Kate ends up having to take care of Damien but he's from another Earth, maybe Conroy Bat's earth.

I don't think being from another Earth will be an issue if they hold true to the original Crisis storyline.

Well considering Iris is standing on the farm there looks like they are coming to Earth 1.

It really is that same thing. :funny:
