I think a re-start is the only option now. A restart does not have to be a retelling of the origin as some seem to assume.
One change that should be made is to Luthor. Make him just a little older than Superman - a stud in his own right that maybe a Lois would look twice at.
The Cain/Abel imagery is better served with this "brother" image. SV got that right and I am not a SV fan.
The corporate Lex - of course. How in the world did Singer think the old man Lex with his campy one-dimensional associates would appeal today. It was embarrasing IMO.
Associates to Lex - make them deadly and maybe make them dealing behind Lex's back. John Shea as Lex on the first season of L&C had an absolutely great gal Friday - that is what I am talking here.
An interesting and multi-dimesional Lex is or should have been a given - not necessarily sympathetic but intriguing.

I never was that into Zane for Lex. You think Spacey was bland? OH MAN, Zane would be a new degree of blandness for you.
As far as everything you want for Luthor it's basically L&C imo. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I will die defending that show

Clark should always be suspicious of him, Lois not sure whether he's good or bad (Lex that is) but certainly more trusting than Clark. As for Superman, when they are on screen together you should get the feeling of two unmovable objects. Superman not threatened by Lex, confident to one day bring him down. Lex, not intimidated by Superman, confident he will always be a step ahead of the man in blue.
A restart is NOT necessary right now. I say give us another film from the SR universe, maybe a full trilogy even... Then after closing that chapter within 10years begin a restart starting with the origin which includes Krypton and SV.

But it is hardly just L&C, its SV, its 'Lex Luthor Man of Steel' - one of the best mini-series in recent years. The portrayal of Lex in LLMOS is the best I have ever seen.
It is being done in live-action and the books.
Zane - just a suggestion. Take your pick. I really think it works better making Lex youngish and vital physically.
But a multi-dimensiuonal and intriguing Lex is going to appeal a lot more than the over-the-top caricature we got in SR IMO.

SUPERMAN TRIUMPHANT
I am 70-75% done with an actual script.
It's Metropolis, and Superman and Lois Lane haven't spoken in 2 years. He watches over Jason in his own way and Lois knows this. Richards growing tired of being engaged for seven years. Luthor has been out of the limelight. Superman is back in all his glory. Than one day-the opening scene-a terrorist attack on the metropolis monorail during the day forces superman to save the train with lois n jimmy on board, and lois n superman find themselves face to face infront of a crowd for the first time in years. They don't turn it into anything, but the following scene show each in their own way wonder to back to "what could have been" ect. Meanwhile catch up with Lex Luthor, who is hiring JOHN CORBEN to steal him some kryptonite!
Lois has flashbacks of moment of her n supes in their prime, one particular one showing Superm and Lois's first night out together, when superman took her to the eifil tower in paris. Superman, we see, watches over jason by tucking him in one night in flash, ect. The next day, clark, lois, jimmy n richard in downtown metrop. doing a story when they see a burning buildin forcing superman to take action. Again, he and Lois see each other, but superman leaves-clark returning. Aagin, the moment of seeing eachother brings back more, now welcome memories of a better past. Catch up with BRAINIAC in outer space, tracing kryptonite to Earth, and heading for it! That night Richard gets a medal of courage in a big event in the planet ballroom for his acts in SUPERMAN RETURNS but Lois has to finish her article first, and tells clark. Richard is mad she wont be there, and she sees him flirting with other women and heads up. She gets up there, and spots the newspaper headline of her n supes first meeting with Superman saving her in a crashing private plane through downtown metropolis, a spectacular save ending with the "who are you?" "a friend". She comes to in her seat, at her desk. Que heart to heart talk with clark. she finds a note on her desk n reads it aloud but stop when she sees its signed "a friend". The notes asking her to meet her under the globe in 2 nights. as clark leaves, she wonders who else was up there n how clark didnt see superman. Meanwhile, Brainiac and John Corben meet up when trying to get kryptonitr, and luthor arrives and they decie they do not need corben and send him out, and Brainiac and Luthor together can kill Kal-el!
Superman flies home and talks to jor-el about how he wishes to reunite with lois but his father says his sacrifice is too great. **** happens to corben and brainiac uses his technology to create metallo. shots of metallo preforming various crimes for brainiac and corben, but what they add up to, we do not know yet. The following day is a pop concert in metropolis square for peace, and metallo shows up. que big superman vs. metallo action sequence with superman saving lois lane personally and flying around and setting her down. a truly one on one moment and first in
a while. superman goes and beats up metallo. than we have the big romantic meeting around page 75 in the script. superman n lois meet on the roof. It isnt like returns, they talk like two old friends who have caught up, though the tensions somewhat visible. Superman flys her around, and we go to the white's house. superman watches jason, and than apologizes for not being there to help raise jason. Their much more accepting, though the more they talk, the more and more they seem to want to accept being together, though past actions make that impossible. Superman takes lois to the eifil tower, and its here things kind of blow up. The argument starts as to why Superman ever left lois, lois starts crying ect. Alot like that scene in the notebook when they finally meet up n it breaks into a huge argument. Superman has a look n attitude that hes had enough, and says some **** to lois n its starts pouring rain. Lois seems to be very upset that he did not say good bye, bnut they convince each other n the two start kissing passionately, and fly off. Romantic flight over the ocean with titanic typoe music playing. they go the fortress n hook up. Superman drops her off and says "are things going to be different form now on?" and lois responds " i dont know. i hope so".
Back to Luthor, they create a super-metallo with metallos dead body and begin to put their plan into action. The first piece is kidnapping Lois Lane!
*Kitty is back, and watching over this ****.
So yeah, the first thing they do next morning is kidnap lois lane who clark quickly realizes is missing. he hears her screams. he tells richard to go to the roof in 15 if clarksn ot back. clark heads up and we se einside the enormous water tower, lois is drowning, surrounded by kryptonite! Cl;ark enters and Brainiac n Luthor are in there. Clark tries to fight brainiac but gets owned. Clark dives in-transforming into Superman as lois sees him, unknown to superman-superman saves her by breaking the tower thus flooding the roof and sending wood flying but hes dying as richard n co. get there. Meanwhile, Brainiac and Metallo land in Metropolis n egin a huge attack on the public! Lois and richard try to save superman until lois finally just kisses him, n it seems to wake him up! They hear the attack and must get inside, but jimmy notices superman going to the ledge. Lois runs to him as richard tries to hold her, but lois breaks free as jimmy explains "this could be the last time they ever talk" n they head inside. Lois pleads with superman not to go-they have alot of kryptnoite n are obviously much more power than superman. hell die. she says she loved him n always has, and superman says he has to go, n she says why there kill you, n he says " i have to try". He picks her up nn kisses on the ledge, a huge sunset behind them and then says "good bye, lois lane" and flies off. A broken Lois, knowing shes once again blown it, goes inside to see richard heard the whole thing, but hes no jerk and comforts her crying self with open arms.
Superman goes and gets charged up-cut to the pentagon-****s happening to their weapons! at luthors hideout, we see thier plan-their using brainiacs technology to diasable the entire united states military! a solider says "theres nothing to stop them" and then superman arrives and mauls metallo with ease but then comes an enormous street fight with brainiac. meanwhile cops find out where luthor is kitty undoes the weapons thing with lex dissappeared. Superman gets owned by brainiac, but outsmarts him and unwires him and he retreats to space after an enormous, epic street fight. But UH-OH! Luthors still at the planet and shoots richard in the shoulder and has lois hostage, trying to getaway in his chopper. a near dead superman stops him but lex and lois both fall from the chopper superman flies down but can only savelois. lex "supposably" dies by falling into a forrest. he saves lois but is so weak he soon crashes in the water, lois holding her lovers seemingly lifeless body, until their picked by a boat. footage shows superman recovering due to rest n extreme sunlight exposure, and theres a massive press conference in metropolis sqaure at night for the final scene where the police announce lex luthors body hasn tbene found and supermans declared a national hero. IN the backround, Richard and Lois talk, and richard breaks up with lois, saying he does not want to be a homewrecker of she and supermans family, lois tries not to let him, but he wants to. lois is sad/relieved, as richard says hes taken the job offer he got in chicago. lois walks away with jimmy, with white yelling "lois and jimmy arent you covering this!?" and she says "were going on a vacation" or some stupid line that sghust white down and leave. final scene is in a back alley with superman and lois, with lois asking "are things going to be different from now on?" and superman says "i think so".
this is the best possible way i see for getting the franchis eback ontrack i.e. superman n lois trying to be together, big super villains, ect.

Clip # 1-Flashback sequence into Superman and Lois Lane's first meeting
Lois turns and sighs, and one particular frame catches her eye.
“ 'SUPER' RESCUE IN THE SKY”
We see a picture of broken up private plane, a big photo of Superman, and than a smaller picture of Lois.
Close up on Lois’s face, to her eyes….
FLASHBACK
INT. PRIVATE PLANE-CONTINOUS
The sound jet engines can be heard and that sound a diving airplane makes-
We’re in a small private plane-
INT. CABIN-CONTINUOUS
LOIS LANE-24-smashes through the pilots door-BREATHES HARD and falls from the force of the hit-
She glances up, and we se through the windsheild the plane descending rather quickly downwards, over the Metropolis river, and at the current moment, is rocketing the large brick suspension bridge across the river.
Lois quickly looks the driver-shes in a panic-he is slouched over in chair, foaming at the mouth-Lois SCREAMS at the site-
EXT. PLANE-DAY
The planes just over a 1000 feet from the water and descending quickly-
INT. CABIN-DAY
Lois weerily but hurriedly shoves the man aside, and grabs the controls, struggling with all her might to turn the plane, but they will not move-
She looks up-the bridge is getting closer-seconds away from impact-
She pulls and pulls again and again-
LOIS
Come on come please-
She looks up-almost there-
The sound of jets and air passing by is incredibly loud-
Lois cant move it and times up-
At the last second lois SHOVES down on the handles-the plane nosedives-misses the bridges SMASHES TOWARDS THE WATER-
Lois screams and falls back-OUT OF THE CORNER OF THE EY SHE SEES IT-A BLUR DIVE BENEATH THE PLANE-
Suddenly a huge thump-the plane is instantly raised LEVEL and is now RISING-
Lois’s eyes are wide-
EXT. PLANE-CONTINUOUS
Superman is holding the plane by the bottom-hes struggling-inexpirienced-the weight is off-
Superman tries but he mis balances the plane!
INT. COCKPIT-CONTINOUS
The plane jerks to the left-lois flys that way-off screen-we see it turn towards THE CITY-SPEED PICKING UP-
EXT. PLANE-CONTINUOUS
Superman is SMASHED by one of the wings-it shatters and explodes, falling off-the plane-the plane rockets into Metropolis and down Main Street-one week, the other a huge blaze of fire and smoke-spining wildly but not descending very fast-
Supermans face is determined-he grits his teeth and slices after it-
INT. COCKPIT-CONTINOUS
Lois picks her self in a daze-their rolling around-she screams-
EXT. STREET-CONTINUOUS
People look up in shock and point-some scream and turn-as the plane blazes overhead-enormous trail of smoke-suddenly superman immerges speeding by in hot pursuit; the wind from his flight blowing peoples hat off-
People point at superman-
INT. OFFICE BUILDING-CONTINUOUS
A big group of people pressed against a wall sized glass window watching it-the plane blazes by-superman in pursuit
EXT. STREET-CONTINUOUS
The plane is 60 feet off the city and dropping-its heading for metropolis square-
It’s spinning wing takes out 2 awning before hitting a balcony-it breaks off and apart and flys back at superman who flies through the smokes debris-
The plane now enters a flat spin as a result of the lost wind and drops VERY fast as it enters Metropolsi square-
INT. COCKPIT-CONTINUOUS
Lois screams-the planes over a group of cars and going down fast-
EXT. METROPOLIS SQAURE-CONTINUOUS
People get out of the car-and and run-the planes gonna hit-
Suddenly superman is in from nowhere-dives in from behind and gets it by the belly and LIFTS IT up as they both fly by, just missing crashing into the enormous group of cars!
The people on the street point and look in awe as Superman HEAVES the plane onto his back, and then slowly comes down-
Little kids get out and look up in amazement-
INT. PLANE-COCKPIT-CONTINUOUS
Lois looks shocked-in awe-breathes heavily as she is still, we see through the window shield the planes behind settled down very gently.
She creeps to the side window and looks down-
Her eyes go wide at the crowd out of their cars, all watching-she stares straight down-all she can see is a FLAPPING RED CAPE
Shes in DISBELIEF.
EXT. METROPOLIS SQAURE-CONTINUOUS
Superman gently hovers down and stops-punches the side of the plane-the landing tires instantly pop out-and he sets the plane down, as the crowd erupts into an insane cheer!
INT. COCKPIT-CONTINUOUS
Lois sees them-heads to the door. She’s at when suddenly it is RIPPED away from her-She and Superman are FACE TO FACE-
EXT. PLANE-CONTINUOUS
Superman drops the door on the ground, hovers up, and carries Lois off the plane-flying-hovering-slowly downwards to the ground.
He sets her down.
SUPERMAN
All you alright Miss, that was quite a scare.
The crowd listens VERY INTENTLY.
LOIS
Miss? ….I’m…Lois…Lane-Lois Lane.
Shes in awe-smiling-looking deep into Superman-her breathe taken away-
SUPERMAN
Well Miss Lane, maybe on your next flight across town, try a helicopter.
Shes speechless-
LOIS
You….flew…how did you do that?
SUPERMAN
It’s a gift I have.
LOIS
Who...are you?
Superman smiles down at her, and utters, as the theme silently rises-
SUPERMAN
A friend.
He turns to the crowd-who are stunned-and waves-he BULLETS INTO THE AIR-THE CROWD GOES ****ING NUTS—
Lois stares at him as people rush her, many reporters asking her questions-“how do you know him?” “ wheres he from?” “what size waiste doe she have? Is he the alien weve been hearing about?” is he a democrat?”
Lois pays NO attention, he eyes follow Superman out of site, and she turns to face the crowd, and FAINTS-several in the crowd catching her-

To make things simple, I'll outline some of the basic ideas for my story in point form:
- The story takes place two years following the events of Superman Returns.
- Perry White has retired and Richard is the new editor of the Daily Planet. The demanding nature of Richard's job is isolating him more and more from Lois and Jason. Lois is starting to feel uncomfortable with Richard as her boss at the Daily Planet.
- Superman has regained his public fame in the world and is currently investigating a conspiricy case in Metropolis where it is believed a rogue FBI Agent named Milton Fine is in a partnership with Morgan Edge's intergang (the reigning crime gang in Metropolis).
- Superman has forged a working friendship with Richard over the years. They often meet regularly for Superman to get inside information from Richard that he wouldnt be able to obtain as Clark Kent (regarding Milton Fine in this case).
- Superman now knows that Richard and Lois were intentionally trying to protect Jason all along by keeping the identity of his true father as a secret.
- Superman's investigations lead him to uncovering that intergang has possession of Kryptonian technology and weapons. They are building some kind of gateway.
- Supes takes on Intergang and confronts Morgan Edge. He discovers the humans are building a gateway to the Phantom Zone for whoever is supplying them with Kryptonian weapons and technology.
- FBI Agent Fine is identified to be the one supplying them and reveals to Superman that he is in fact Brainiac.
- Fine/Brainiac reveals that he transmitted information to a human contact 7 years ago that could be used to falsify Krypton's existence. When Superman travelled to Krypton, the main core of Brainiac downloaded itself into Superman's ship and then rebuilt itself on Earth upon Superman's Return. He has infiltrated the Govt and maintained a human identity ever since.
- Brainiac then reveals his origin to Superman. His program was secretly created by the Kryptonian council without Jor-El's knowledge as a weapon and tool to preserve Kryptonian hertiage. Brainiac (growing in knowledge and artificial intelligence) was eventually abadoned in space upon the planet's destruction until he was able to orchestrate Superman's arrival.
- Brainac plans to recreate Krypton on earth by eliminating the entire human race and using the stored DNA patterns in his system to begin cloning a Kryptonian civilization (as he was programmed to do). He orders Superman to begin the process by murdering Jason (as Jason's blood isnt pure Kryptonian).
- Superman refuses and Brainiac unleashes an animal creature of pure violence from the Phantom Zone; Doomsday.. on Metropolis.
- Superman fights Doomsday in a bloody battle to protect the city while the US govt discover a weapon that Agent Fine planted in the White House. It has Kryptonian text counting down and appears to be some kind of weapon that could wipe the entire population of Earth off the surface when it blows.
- Doomsday heads towards Jasons school to hunt him down. The school is attacked though Jason is safe thanks to Superman. After a bloody battle, Superman injures Doomsday severly as Doomsday escapes into the ocean. Superman's suit is ripped and torn apart.
- . Lois and Richard realize they need to get Jason out of Metropolis to safety. Clark offers that all four of them go back to his home in Smallville where they will be safe. Richard tells Jason and Lois to go while he stays behind at the Planet as many citizens begin to flood out of Metropolis after the Doomsday attack.
- The US defense dept and the President realize there is only one man who can help them deactivate this weapon with Superman now MIA (believed to be killed by Doomsday); Lex Luthor. The President coerces Luthor to help in exchange for a pardon of past crimes. Luthor agrees and reveals that concentrated Kryptonite can de-power this type of Kryptonian crystal weapon as he learned about this in the Fortress with Jor-El. Luthor begins to synthesize meteor rocks into Kryptonite using his technology and research from Superman 1.
- In Smallville, Martha meets Lois, Jason and Clark at the Kent Farm. She starts to notice how Jason reminds her of young Clark as we see some flashbacks from her prespective of Clark's childhood.
- Clark tells Martha that his Superman suit [that he got from the Fortress years ago] was torn apart. Martha then reveals that she kept the blankets that Clark was wrapped in as a baby, made from a material as strong as his suit, and can use them to try to help mend his costume.
- Lois begins to snoop around at the Kent farm looking at old photos. She is shocked to see that Clark had a highschool girlfriend and a life in Smallville. She begins to realize that there was much more to him than she thought.
- Eventually she realizes that he is Superman afterall and confronts Clark. They have an emotional discussion about why Clark had to keep this from her.
- Doomsday recovers and appears again in Metropolis as Clark reveals that he must go back to stop him. Before he flies off, Martha hands him his suit; with the cape now made of the brighter red blanket material from the ship with a yellow \S/ on the back.
- They fight as Doomsday drives Superman into the Daily Planet building and begins to tear it apart. Superman saves Jimmy, Richard and the other civilians as Doomsday continues his rampage.
- Lex places his newly made Kryptonite control key onto the explosive device and depowers it.
- Fine/Brainiac, furious at this development, sends the New Krypton landmass in space hurdling towards earth. The speed at which its travelling breaks NK apart as the first wave of meteors smash into Metropolis. Doomsday is killed upon impact with one of the larger meteors as they crash into the city. Superman takes to the skies to destroy them. Brainiac follows Superman into space to stop him.
- Superman eventually overpowers Brainiac and sends him and the NK landmass into the sun.
- Weeks pass as the city starts to rebuild.
- Lex, given the President's support, begins to build Lexcorp (advanced defence against future attacks). Superman confronts Lex where Lex reveals that he was the one that Brainiac transmitted to 7 years ago. Luthor was the one that placed the false evidence to drive Superman to Krypton. Lex reveals that he knows that Jason White is Superman's son and threatens harm to the boy if Superman interferes with his business. Superman is furious but realizes theres nothing he can do to stop Luthor within the law and vows to one day make him pay for his crimes.
- Lex then secretly tells Kitty that he isnt after money, but immortality and ultimate knowledge. He says he believes that only Fine was killed and the core computer of Brainiac is still intact somewhere on Earth. He intends to find it using Lexcorp's resources.
- Clark tells Lois about Luthor's threat against Jason and she comes to an important decision. She tells Richard that they need to move to Smallville, it would be the best and safest thing for Jason now that Lex is gaining power over Metropolis. Richard knows that he is needed in Metropolis, to rebuild the Daily Planet. He can't leave but painfully decides to let Lois go (thinking of Jason's best interests). Unsure of when Lois would return, Richard and Lois decide to break off the engagement.
- Richard and Lois say their goodbyes as Clark, Lois and Jason head for the plane to Kansas.
- Back in Smallville, Jason is now enrolled in a new school under the alias "Conner Kent" so Lex Luthor can't track him and begins a new life.
- The film ends with Lois and Clark deciding to tell Jason about Krypton and his heritage as Martha watches.
- Clark, now temporarily based in Smallville, as his home and work in Metropolis is gone, heads to the skies as Superman to listen for trouble and save those who need him.

- Superman has regained his public fame in the world and is currently investigating a conspiricy case in Metropolis where it is believed a rogue FBI Agent named Milton Fine is in a partnership with Morgan Edge's intergang (the reigning crime gang in Metropolis).
- Superman has forged a working friendship with Richard over the years. They often meet regularly for Superman to get inside information from Richard that he wouldnt be able to obtain as Clark Kent (regarding Milton Fine in this case).
- Superman now knows that Richard and Lois were intentionally trying to protect Jason all along by keeping the identity of his true father as a secret.
- Superman's investigations lead him to uncovering that intergang has possession of Kryptonian technology and weapons. They are building some kind of gateway.
- Supes takes on Intergang and confronts Morgan Edge. He discovers the humans are building a gateway to the Phantom Zone for whoever is supplying them with Kryptonian weapons and technology.
- FBI Agent Fine is identified to be the one supplying them and reveals to Superman that he is in fact Brainiac.
- Fine/Brainiac reveals that he transmitted information to a human contact 7 years ago that could be used to falsify Krypton's existence. When Superman travelled to Krypton, the main core of Brainiac downloaded itself into Superman's ship and then rebuilt itself on Earth upon Superman's Return. He has infiltrated the Govt and maintained a human identity ever since.

Well the changes are obviously temporary. Theyll all be reunited back in Metropolis in the third film, working at a new Daily Planet and Superman will take on corperate Lex Luthor.
But I think this is the best way to break off Richard and Lois' engagement while bringing her closer to Clark.
