Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

as for my cast:

Superman/Clark Kent - Jude Law. He may not be as large, but he has a look about him that could be seen as very unique and regal. Almost alien in nature. He could buff up and would work fine.

Lois Lane - Robin Tunney Watch Prison Break and you'll know why.

Lex Luthor - Jason Isaacs Him in that role would be orgasmic.

Metallo - Viggo Mortenson I think he would be good. Plus I'd like to see him as a villain.

Lana Lang - Allyson Hannigan She would be great I think. She is beautiful and has the farm girl from next door thing going.

Jonathan and Martha Kent - K. Callan and Eddie Jones They nailed the role on Lois and Clark, why not?

Jimmy Olsen - Topher Grace He was tailor made for the role.

Perry White - Christopher Walken Great actor, would be great in the role.

Jor-El - Jim Caviazel Big Superman fan, has the look, would be open for sequels.

Lara - Teri Hatcher Just for fun.

Not sure about a movie in which Jimmy Olson could beat up Superman. :woot:

One word...Birthright. That's all I am saying.

Birthright was great. I wish it were actually the established origin.

I would loooove to see Superman as a period piece...Set back in ww2 or something.

Supes would be cool, but I think a 40's era Batman movie would be even better. That would be incredible to me.

I maintain Superman does not have to be physically huge. His powers are a chemical reaction to the yellow sun. He doesn't have to have large muscle mass to get his power. Plus don't you think a Clark who is 6'6 and muscular as hell would attract attention? If Law could get ripped, the camera could handle height. And his acting would blow Routh or anyone to ever hold the role, really, out of the water.

The one thing that comes of this is the Donnerverse is finally over. Whether you liked SR or not, we have closure on the Donner films. I love Superman 1 and 2 but those are classic films that stand alone. I can watch them anytime and smile.

Now we can look foward to a fresh take on Superman.

I hate Birthright. It was just an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Smallville.

I agree. Superman should be timeless. A time piece sort of takes away from that. Batman on the other hand is sort of in this perpetual era of a depression and mobsters running cities. The 40s is a good period for Batman.

LOL, that POS JLA movie aint saving anything.

No, but an action oriented, Transformers-esque movie will. JLA doesn't have to be a character driven masterpiece. It has to be an action heavy epic that lays down the groundwork for solo movies.

Heck yeah! A period Batman film would rock as well...before all the tech stuff...get back to detective skills and older style gadgets....an older batmobile...it would be a good film with real challenges to be met on how a mortal from that era fights crime.

Law's not that impressive of an actor to me and I don't like the look of his face for Superman or Clark either. He also has a worse pencil neck than Routh.

The problem is that the world has changed so much that there isn't actually a need for a superman character in this day and age.

he served himself better during the desperate times of war back in the day...

Lois lane is ultimately right.

if superman existed in today's world, he'd be batman.

I disagree. There will always be a need for Superman. He is about hope and the power that one man has to change the world, he is about using one's talents to help others. His 'mission' is essentially the same as Batman's, but his powers make his methods different. B/c of his power his greatest challenge is to not let the power corrupt him. That's incredibly relevant. Don't forget, Superman is also a role model type character who leads by example.

Law is a fantastic actor who just picks really bad roles from time to time. Trust me, he would kill as Big Blue.

If they get a new director and reboot the franchise and pretend SR didn't happen, I think it will cause nothing but more confusion for the moviegoers. We basically will get a new Superman in JLA, plus the ongoing Smallville, and now a new movie of Superman that isn't a sequel of SR? I, for one, will be rather tired of the whole thing.

Audiences are not as stupid as you think.

I'll bet WB will be very interested in how well Marvel's HULK and PUNISHER redo's are received.

Size doesn't matter on film. There are ways around it.

Don't get me wrong, I think he is a fine actor, but I would almost prefer that they go with another unknown. He just doesn't strike me as the iconic type for Supes.

But more often than not, that's how he's drawn. No, he doesn't have to be larger, but let's also factor in that Clark grew up on a farm. If he were a normal human, he might have developed that type of physique anyway.

Plus don't you think a Clark who is 6'6 and muscular as hell would attract attention?

One of the few things Superman Returns did well was the scene when Richard and Lois are comparing Clark and Superman's physical measurements, and ultimately dismissing the similarities because of how well Clark plays up the nerdy mannerisms. A slight slouch and a dopey grin go a long way.

Its funny that 6 months ago when someone said that, we were called crazy and assured that production would be gearing up by now.

I doubt Punisher will be as important as The Incredible Hulk. Punisher is R-Rated and less iconic. The Hulk on the other hand is a very iconic and well known. His box office was very similiar to SR's performance.

Well, when you factor in his super strength...lifting bales of hay for Clark would be the equivilant to a human lifting the remote. Clark should be grossly obese if anything :cwink:

I think cosmetics are far less important than plot and characterization.

I liked that scene too.

One, Superman has superhuman metabolism. Two, I'd say if you consider how much farm work he would probably do once he realized he had super strength, it's probably comparable to a whole team of workers. He wouldn't just do the amount of work of one normal human worker.

I think cosmetics are far less important than plot and characterization.

But the movie is still based on a comic, and a character like Superman does require some visual representation of that super strength.

Hehe, fair enough.

I think you can bulk Law up enough to represent it. Does Superman really need to be a ridiculously large body builder? Law can bulk up enough to work.

Yo Matt, the idea of Jor-El being just a father who loves his son is actually better and more realistic than the prophetic one.

Wishful thinking I suppose.

PUNISHER is just a huge wtf, for me. A lot of people liked the first one and there was plenty there to build on. HULK is more likely to confuse people if it's not handled correctly. I would've much preferred Marvel going ahead with a new property like Captain America, instead of restarting a failed property.

I would like to see a Captain America movie, but I think I would prefer to see it as a period piece as well. Something about him doesn't seem to fit in the 21st century.
