Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

I
Yea i said it before with a reboot and other have said it too there is so many ways they could go about showing it and how it plays along with the movie. I do say yea we should take all the best elements from byrne reboot, stas, smallville and some of the other top superman reboots from the past few yrs and some how mix them up to work good together.

I guess so. I just realized that I only wanted it so that they could make other films, and I realized that I might as well think about those films. And when I started doing that, I realized that if there's an origin movie that's to my liking it'll be in 2011 at the earliest, then if that's successful then a good sequel-to-it will have to wait until 2013 at the earliest. I just thought, "maybe the origin isn't that important since everyone knows it."

Yea they could always then jsut give is a little bit like we see his rocket come to earth, he knows of the planet name krypton but nothing else and leave it to sequel. But if they clearly want to show this is nothing related to singer's film or the reeve movies we need to have it clearly shown and all that, nothing is simular to it story/look wise.

Some have suggested keeping Krypton a mystery and having him land on Smallville at the beginning or something. I guess that's as good as anything else.

I dunno, I still think a good enough Returns-neglecting sequel can be successful artistically and commercially. I'm sure a full-on reboot can be too. I just lost interest in brainstorming for it, I guess.

I very much like the idea of Superman having no idea where he came from until the end of the first film, or a second film.

I'd be OK with it, altough I prefer him finding out when he's a kid.

That's it. I can't resist anymore. There are too damn many compelling stories to be told. I'm crystallizing a script treatment for this. I plan to have it finished in time for Superman's 100th anniversary.

You can send it to WB. It will be well before they get their **** together.

This is UNBELIEVABLE, over 70 years of mythos, storylines, etc, and they still can't get their act together..... you suck big time, WB. :down:down

The world needs Superman!

We need hope, inspiration, goodness, excitement, what Superman is all about.

Just give us an action-packed Superman movie with a good story, a compelling supervillain, the right cast, and promote the hell out of it with exciting trailers, and that's it!

:whatever: If things continue this way --nothing happening with Supes at the movies-- I guess I'm gonna turn into a Marvel girl. What other choice do I have?

I want another Superman movie, please! And soon. SIGH.

And this is why I hate movies hate TF2... waste of cash
That 200 million could have been used for a Superman reboot...

I agree; but we need to be patient. I don't want WB to just rush a product out just because we just want a Supes flick with all it's amenities. I'm just saying, WB got some inhouse business to take care of and other factors to get in order. Once they get their **** together, I'm sure they will start the process of getting many of their projects rolling off the shelf and into production.

Ya... when the world ends...
I'm sure the last man on earth will enjoy those WB movies...

I swear I Am Legend was a prophecy...
That Batman/Superman movie poster in New York...
There is also a GREEN LANTERN poster...

It does suck there is so many factors in play right now with the wb exec with what to do with superman let alone other dc characters who are currently not in active development.

"Man of Steel"
Reboot

Storyline:
Main Storyline: Clark Kent establishes himself as Superman, guardian of metropolis, taking the role from the corrupt Lex Luthor.
Side Story 1: Clark Kent explores his heritage as a Kryptonian contrasted with his growth in Smallville
Side Story 2: Clark Kent falls for Lois Lane, and tries to get her to fall as well.
Side Story 3: Superman battles against Metallo-based SCU.
Twist: Lex Luthor runs his stuff on Kryptonite
Resolution: Superman gives his all for the city, and manages to survive on willpower alone.

Pre-credits:

Classic crash and recovery sequence. Recently miscarried Martha sees Clark as gift from God. Johnathan hears a message of peace play from the pod they pick up. It happens in a storm to make it dramatic.

Credit Sequence:

Photos of Clark growing up turn give way to Smallville newspaper clippings which in turn give way to postcards of distant places around the world.

Act 1: Introduce, Clark Kent, Kal-El and Metropolis

Clark Kent steps off the bus in Metropolis. Meets Bibbo and Natasha Irons in passing. Witnesses Lex Luthor's public demonstration of his cybernetically enhanced SCU units, captained by John Corben, which go haywire, badly.

Flashback to sequence of dad's funeral, where he decided to go to Met and the final sequence of his pod played, with a message from Jor-El and Lara, and his blue jumpsuit being produced for his use.

Presently, in Met, Clark Kent degarbs into his blue jumpsuit and saves some innocents. Corben is seemingly/nearly killed. Clark narrowly gets away unseen. Tries to get an apartment, needs to find a job first.

Act 2: Introduce Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor

Clark arrives at the Daily Planet which is abuzz with news of him. Meets Jimmy, who shows him the pic of him saving people earlier today. He tries to get a job, but doesn't get a look until he mentions that he was there at the scene. He's told to shadow Lois, and they go to meet with Lex for an interview. They have an extensive conversation which highlights Lex's view of the city and his position in it, as well as his stance on the outsider, his past interactions with Lois and the beginning of his atangonism with Clark. We then see Lex go to his Star Labs where Hamilton is rebuilding Corben with "extensive and experimental" prosthetics.

Lois is furious with Clark for ruining the interview. He's more introspective than anything, she goes off on her own, as does he. He returns to Smallville, getting cold responses from Lana and Pete. He talks with his mother and they decide on how he can make a difference. They fashion his cape into a symobl. She works through the night on his costume as he flies, costume partly finished to differnet parts of the world where it is still daytime, saving lives, delivering food, righting wrongs, and generally being Superman. We also have a flashback of when he was young and first discovered his powers, and his parents revealed to him his ship. There we are treated to the fate of Krypton and a message from his parents over a montage of him helping around the world.

By the time morning comes and he lands in Metropolis, he's Superman... and Cyborg Corgen is waiting for him. He's been repaired by LexCorp and gone rogue in revenge and anguish over his current physical state.

Superman routes Metallo with some ease until Metallo's casing is broken and suddenly he's a match for Superman, who manages to get him away from the city and such in time.

Lois snags an interview with him immediately after. Their chemistry in this interaction is clear. Superman is the gentle giant, Lois is the tiny spitfire. Their banter is playful and layered.

Clark submits a positive piece from the persepective of Kal-El's world travels. Lois has a negative piece the perspective of his actions in Met. Clark gets a job. Lois gets the front page.

Act 3: Lex Luthor vs Superman

As Lex discovers Superman's weakness, it is revealed that Lex powers his new tech with the incredible meteorite. He repairs and upgrades Metallo, who did exactly what he was supposed to do, which is cause superman to cause damage, and sets him up for the end game. We then see all the foreshadowed tech pay off, most notably, a space laser, a super-hacking program and a kryptonite beam, Lex's solution to the energy crisis.

Metallo goes haywire, Lex arrives and uses his tech-laden gauntlet to shut Metallo down, but Met overrides it somehow. Superman swings into action, battles the thing all over town. Superman narrowly wins, saving all endangered lives in the process, but is very weakened.

Facing off against Lex, Superman gets battered six ways from Sunday. Lasers from space, Kryptonite blasts from the hand. As Lex and Superman battle, Metropolis doesn't know where to stand. Until Lex wins, Superman's heart slows as he lies face down in a water-filled crater. Slowly, the people whom he's dealt with rally, calling his name. Lois, Jimmy and Perry, John Irons, Natasha, Bibbo, Lana, Pete, Martha, even Corben, Emil Hamilton and Mercy Graves.

Flashback to sitting in front of pod learning Kryptonian language as a young man. His father Johnathan Kent comes and speaks with him, and they have some epic talk about doing things because you're the only one who can do them.

Back in Met, Lois and Jimmy get Superman out of the puddle. Lex proclaims himself the savior of the city from this inhuman monster. John Irons and Bibbo carry Superman away from the carnage as the sky begins to peel back and the sun shines on the man of steel. His faint slowing heartbeat begins to pickup. As his fans are fussing, talking and praying over him he gets flashbacks of his interactions with them. He comes to and slowly stands. He asks John Irons for his car, and then uses it as a shield as he flies into space, disabling the laser. Returning to the ground, fully charged, Superman dodges the Kryptonite blasts, deactivates Luthor's gauntlet and turns on the raging impotent beast, allowing Luthor to show his true colors, and lose the alleigance of the city completely.

Resolution:

Clark Kent works with Lois Lane, whom he has a one-way attraction to, when missiles streak through the sky above. Clark makes an excuse and disappears, cue change sequence and flight sequence.

Notes:

There's some things I could add, some things I could take away, but this is the basics of it. The main thing to address would be how the disguise works, and it'd probably be best addressed by having some stunt to show Clark and Superman side by side. Any comparisons between the two would have to be quickly dropped at that point.

It's time to do something different with Superman. So, here is my idea:

The new Superman film should be set in 1938, the same year that Superman was created. It doesn't have to be the real 1938 (complete with Nazis and talk of a second world war). It just has to have the look and feel of the late 1930s to early 1940s. The cars, the sets, the costumes, could all be a throwback to the time of Superman's inception.

It took a few years to really establish many staples of Superman canon, such as Kryptonite, the Daily Planet, and even his power of flight. These things didn't exist in the very beginning. It would be great to transplant these established traits into the world of the 1930s.

The entire film could also have a noir-type feel to it, with washed-out color. I wouldn't want to see a completly black and white film. But, low-key, stylized color would give the film a distinctive look.

It would also be nice to see a Superman costume closer to Alex Ross's vision.

What do you guys think? If you like this idea, expand on it.

No, thanks.

Maybe an alternative comic book story, or animated. Not for a movie.

What Superman needs is an update, and not go back.

What would be interesting is a movie like this, not a Superman movie meant to bring in big bucks but a more independent flick like Hollywoodland exploring the what if of a character like Superman inspiring the nation in it's condition during the great depression and leading to the second world war. I think it would be a cool way to introduce Captain America actually.

I've seen the idea posted a few times over the years. Not into it.

Have you read "It's Superman" by Tom DeHaven (I think)? It kind of has that. But be warned it's a book written in pulp style that happens to have Superman in it (as a big dumb alien. Key word: dumb). I got through it pretty quick.

I would hate for your idea (not new) idea to come to pass.

Uh...I'm passing on it.

I definitely like the idea of this as an animated film, though, as suggested above. But as a life action film? I don't think that could ever work.

Yeah I've always wanted to see a superman film in the 30's. Same with a batman film and a 60's spider-man film.

Animated for sure, live action tho? not for me.
