EXT. DAILY PLANET OFFICES
Clark stands beside his desk with his hand in his pockets. Richard, Lois' current lover, sits at his desk staring at Clark curiously.
The brown-haired man soon approached.
RICHARD
Good morning.
CLARK
Morning.
RICHARD
Have you noticed anything different
about Lois lately?
Clark's eyes narrow as they both look into Perry's office where Lois is located.
RICHARD
She's been acting kinda strange. Everytime
I mention Jason, or work, or Superman,
she gets all defensive. You haven't noticed?
CLARK
No ... not really.
RICHARD
Ah well, see ya' around. And speak to Lois,
try to find out whats bothering her.
Clark smiles unenthusiastically. Richard returns to his desk.
Lois exits Perry's office. She brushes past Clark and hurries over to her desk.
CLARK
So, Lois ...
Lois continues to search through some files.
CLARK
How's Jason?
Lois impatiently turns her head to Clark.
LOIS
He's fine, Clark. Maybe we can catch up
on things later?
CLARK
Sure, sure ... No problem.
Clark slowly turns his body away from Lois, leaving her to scurry through her files. He looks around the room to see Jimmy waving. He does a typing gesture. Clark smiles clumsily, remembering the documents he has to type up. He waves a hand at Jimmy apologetically.
Clark sits, reading the documents. His facial expression says it all - he cannot read a word of the handwriting. He sits and thinks for a few moments, measuring his thoughts. He stands up once more to see Jimmy looking around the room. Clark begins to wave at Jimmy who is not yet looking. Eventually, Jimmy notices Clark, and smiles. Clark's waving hand looses it's rhythm.
Jimmy walks over.
JIMMY
What's up?
CLARK
Well, it's difficult to read the ...
Clark and Jimmy look at the documents.
CLARK
The handwriting. Can you yourself even
read this?
Jimmy puts his hand onto his chin, considering the handwriting.
JIMMY
Erm ...
Jimmy takes the papers.
JIMMY
Thanks anyway, Clark.
EXT.
Lex Luthor sits, with his head in his hands, inside a large complex room. Kitty stands on a stool searching through a book-shelf.
LEX
He destroyed my dream again ...
again! I'm running out of ideas,
Kitty and soon we're going to be
broke! Hey, have you found anything?
KITTY
No.
LEX
Well, c'mon, find something! I need
something inventive ... something
irregular ... something which will take
that scumbag by surprise.
Kitty notices a book named Evolutionary Upper-Class Science. She picks it out.
Kitty walks over to Lex and plants the book on the desk in front of him. He reads the cover.
LEX
Evolutionary Upper-Class Science.
Lex reads through the first thew pages. He then looks up at Kitty.
LEX
What is this?
KITTY
You asked me to find you a book.
LEX
Yes, a book which can help me kill
Superman - not a book which tells
me about upper-class Science!
Lex flicks through the pages. One page takes his eye. His head lowers so he can read the text. The title is called Duplicating Rays.
Lex reads a paragraph.
LEX
Kitty ...
Kitty is now filing her nails beside a desk.
KITTY
What, Lex?
LEX
Have I ever told you that I love
you?
KITTY
No.
LEX
Well, it's your lucky day. I love
you.
KITTY
Have you found something?
LEX
Possibly. Have you ever heard
of a duplicating ray?
Lex grins.
