Superman Returns Superman Returns has Oscar Considerations

It'll definately get a couple of nominations in the smaller categories, but i doubt it'll get any in the larger ones, even though i think it deserves to.

Sure thats why movies like LOTR and Star Wars never get any awards.:whatever:

Wtf are you talking about?

The Return of the King's haul of 11 statuettes equalled the totals won by Ben Hur in 1960 and Titanic in 1998
including best director and best picture.

Two Towers won the award for Best Visual Effects and it beat off blockbusters Spider-Man and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones for the prize.

it also scooped the award for Best Sound Editing.

and as for the fellowship won it was a winner in
Oscars
Cinematography
Makeup
Music (Score)
Visual Effects
Art Direction

And nominee for Best Director
Best Picture
Costume Design
Film Editing
Music (Song)
Sound
Supporting Actor
Writing (Adapted Screenplay)

What movie won best visual effects last year? I'm too lazy to look it up.

well,if a movie that I havent saw wins an oscar, most of the time I still dont change my mind about seeing it.If I had bad vibes about it before, and it couldnt draw my interest in ,why would it afterwards??because some guys who are more educated than I say its good and they supposedly know best??I dont think so..i'm no sheep. If I like it or not, thats all that matters to me.
call me uncultured, but i'm my own person.

Visual effects is a huge possibility here, even people who don't like it, have to admit that the effects do look $200,000,000, surprise surprise!

98% of the VFX were simply stunning in this movie, id be very surprised if it didnt get at least a nomination.

Really, because I really thought that was Superman saving a plane, that sequence was brilliant in my opinion, and utilized an amazing amount of special effects.

Academy Awards are like Pulitzer Prizes, nobody remembers what you got one for, just that you got one.

haha..

then you have no idea how much 200 milions is for a movie. this is a lot of money.
if we would have seen nonstop action i would understand. but for SR? i guess the money went into mega details on the sets. details that only singer saw and can now dream about them. what should we care about the details on the sets.

Best Picture - Produced by Jon Peters, Bryan Singer, Gilbert Adler (nope, never, I liked the movie, I thought all of it was good, maybe even great. But at everyturn, I also felt something was missing)

Best Director - Bryan Singer (nope, for the above reason)

Best Actor - Brandon Routh (You know, I think there is like a 0.002 probability that he'll get a nom. But he was suprisingly good, in a role, that I think most actors would find suprisingly difficult to play)

Best Supporting Actor - Kevin Spacey (Hardly his best work, nor does it he deserve an oscar for it)

Best Supporting Actress - Kate Bosworth (Was she even in the movie?)

Best Adapted Screenplay - Screenplay by: Michael Dougherty & Dan Harris, Story by: Bryan Singer & Michael Dougherty & Dan Harris (don't know, we all really haven't read what really could have been, and compared it to what we got. Umpossible to make a prediction)

Best Art Direction - Production Designer: Guy Hendrix Dyas, Set Decorator: Brian Dusting (I'd like to say yes, because there was some great stuff in the flick, but, it was the most stunning sets (NK, and the Fortress, were recycled concepts from STM). We hardly saw Metropolis, and like 3 minutes of the farm. I don't think it'll be winning this one)

Best Cinematography - Newton Thomas Sigel, A.S.C.

Best Costume Design - Louise Mingenbach (a lot of you disliked the costumer, and so did I, but on screen it looked great. In photographs it looked terrible. So I don't know, I don't think it'll win this, there were a lot of other movies with crazy costumes earlier in the year)

Best Film Editing - John Ottman, Elliot Graham

Best Makeup - Key Makeup/Hair: Nikki Gooley, Hair Stylist: Shane Thomas

Best Original Score - John Ottman (after hearing the full uncut score, I think this might be a lock, but, again, it is not an all original work, but an adaptation of earlier music by williams. However, the new stuff is REALLY good, so it might pick this one up, a nom for sure)

Best Sound Mixing - Sound Mixer: Salty Brincat, Re-Recording Mixers: John Reitz, Gregg Rudloff, Dave Campbell

Best Sound Editing - Craig Berkey

Best Visual Effects - Mark Stetson, Richard R. Hoover, Neil Corbould, Jon Thum (There were a lot of cool FX this year. SR and Pirates being the most notable, but X3 had some pretty cool FX aswell. Who knows)

Ummmm....so they look realistic and not like cardboard cutouts?

you can do that without spending 200 million on it... that's a ridiculous amount considering how much action there was in the film.

Not really, considering the sets didn't cost $200 million.

Again guys, look at the credits. Every single one of those people had to be paid. Then you have your sets which weren't any more detailed than any other big budget movie set. Then you have your CGI (which wasn't just Superman flying, CGI mattes were all over the place).

Costs are just going up. That's inflation for ya. Just because a movie costs $200 million doesn't mean it's going to be loaded with non stop action and millions of dollars worth of explosions.

Yeah...but I'd say that the effects were showcased in that movie moreso than in SR, no?

Yup, and big movies like Superman Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman Begins, Star Wars, etc. tend to have larger crews than most films. And in case the lot of you haven't noticed, most big movies nowadays cost between $150-200 million anyway. SR costing $200 million shouldn't surprise anyone.
